BolasieReally good to see all this great advice for explorers, but IMHO, I would bin the DBX and get yourself an AspX. There will be those who disagree. I am sure their mothers love them too!

You bet I prefer the Asp Explorer over the DBX. If you're going out into the black you want to have at least a little comfort and space. DBX is for those who don't need to take a leak for several thousand lightyears. Cramped cigar casket it is in my eyes.

The DBX looks better and has plenty of room to stretch your legs. Have you seen the size of its cockpit? It ain't small.

I prefer the AspX for "serious" exploration, and by "serious" I mean long term, long distance. It is, IMO, the ideal Explorer vessel. The DBX is a close second. It doesn't equip quite as well as the Asp for long voyages, but in a way, it "feels" better for planetary exploration. It just feels better when flying through canyons, you know? I think it has a better view.

The AspX let's you pack for mistakes, for picking up cargo, for a faster fuel scoop. It's the ship you take on a family vacation. The DBX is the "roughing it" explorer. YOu bring what you must, and if you get into trouble, well, there you go.

The AspX is the Range Rover or luxury SUV with room for whatever you may need. The DBX is the Jeep Wrangler, it's visceral. FWIW, the Anaconda is the Humvee with the Airstream trailer attached - you can't see shit out of it so forget sightseeing, you can't back it up if you get into a McDonald's drive-thru with too low a clearance to get your fries, and you better not land on any high G planets when you're tired, but your neighbors will know you're a serious explorer because you obviously spent a lot of money on it.

Beluga makes the best explorer IMO. It's nice and comfy, handles really well and looks damned pretty.

From what I remember it needs some serious engineering though due to the generated heat right? It does have the most / biggest windows to look through, I'll give it that.

But when exploring on your own I still prefer a compact ship.

ArtieProblems in the game? Are you looking for something? Do you have anything else on your mind? Feel free to discuss it here.

Hi-
have kitted out an Anaconda for Xploration, with good jump range of @ 52 LY unladen, with Grade 4 FSD Mod and Guardian FSD Booster. Great, I say, i'm on my way to check out Colonia, following a trip to Mammon. Only 372 LYs to go! Also kit out with 1 x crew for fighter (for a lighter craft Xploration of valleys and canyons etc and SRVs.

I land on an unexplored planet to gather materials, in an insignificant system in the middle of nowhere, go for a coffee, come back 30 mins later and message says "your ship has been destroyed", to which I exclaim WTF! No cargo on board, so not exactly a Pirate Magnet.
Playing in Solo mode until i get to Colonia...is this a glitch or have is there something going on I'm not aware of? Any (polite) suggestions welcome.
back at Mammon monitoring station and 12, 000,000.Credits lighter.
Cheers CMDRs

Look me up when you arrive in Colonia. My home station is Colonia Dream (Ratraii system). I have never had a ship blown up while unattended on a moon/planet, and I always play Open. Well, except one case, and that was totally my ignorance. It hadn't occurred to me that keeping the game running (after landing on a planet) while I went out to take care of errands would end up using all my fuel. I had jumped to a system with very little fuel left (the system had a fuel star), but I decided to set down first. I guess I was gone long enough that, even just sitting, the ship burned through my remaining fuel and self-destructed. I can't imagine what must have happened in your case.

Fly safe!

Thanks for the invite, Scubadog-will do!

LordPsymonThe one time I got ganked was hilarious. The guy pulled me out of SC, demanded I wait while I get scanned for cargo. He fumbled around like an idiot and I was like "are you going to scan me or not?"

After another few seconds he said "Hold on..." and I was like "lol, nope. Laters," and boosted out to safety.

At least he managed to get you out of super cruise

I tested an interdictor on a random player once, needed to familiarize myself with it for pirate hunting. The guy was REALLY confused when I simply flew off and left him sitting there.

Guess he was expecting to get ganked, I told him I was only testing the equipment...

That's why it looks better.

I don't even have anything to compare what the Asp looks like... nothing I would mention in polite discourse, anyway.

The Krait is a better looking alternative. Fitted with a Guardian FSD booster it's range isn't half bad, in the high 50s. After that it can still fit all the internals an AspX can. Or you could settle for a single AFMU and add a fighter bay for some canyon flying out in the black.

I love the Asp X, personally. Only ship I want to explore in.

You better not be talking about Ms. Cow Patty like that!

I have my fsd for g5 long range, g3 clean thrusters, and that's it other than some lightweight bits. she deals with heat really well.

How many times do i have to scan the orb to get the fds module blueprint?

Never mind. One segmant is enough to unlock the mod. Will prob need a good few segments to fully kit out fsd
