Na'NiHas anyone ever put together a pirtate group that hang out just outside the bubble to raid unwitting explorers?. Like no station. Just living in the void. Im interested as everyone always seems on the move. Would be cool to think that going outside the bubble has other risks apart from running out of fuel or crashing

(Edited for spelling)

Hmmm. You don't sound like my kind of person. And it seems a bit contradictory to at least on of your log posts. You have an issue with the whole manatee issue, but you're all hot to go after innocent--and often defenseless--explorers? Well, you might catch some new commanders, but you'll likely not catch experienced explorers. You're definitely not going to make many friends that way.

He was just asking if anyone had done so, and that it would cool for other risks to be out there in the Void. He didn't express any desire to go after "innocent" and "defenceless" explorers himself.

Im not saying i wanna hunt people. Thats why im not attacking those doing the cg. I was as stated above by another just curious is there were other risks out there.

I'd ask Iridium Wing, they'd know what dangers face returning explorers.

Pleiades would be a great place for that Void wanderer sort of thing. Bit of a Reaver vibe from Firefly, yeah?

Yea that would be a fun story to fly in on. Would be very interested in checking it out if a group ever chose to do it

Pleiades Concordant is doing a Pro Thargoid thing.  Might be worth checking them out.

how does a player benefit from taking out another player with no bounty and minimal cargo
18 Sep 2018, 4:22am
They do not benefit in any form of normal currency, however some perceive salt to be currency or luls or some take offense to Harmless Cutters, Corvettes and Anacondas having gone the simple grind for credits route without actually learning the game. Some like to test the combat ability of their fellow spacefarers or test others escape tactics.

This list is not exhaustive but a taste of the Dangerous part of Elite.

Perhaps your question should be, how do I avoid having my ship taken out?

Could be another form of seal-clubbing! Most exploration ships are not configured for combat, some not even carrying weapons to save on weight. That and the necessary lightweight engineering for enhanced jump range makes them an ideal target to test out a fully PvP engineered ship, huh?

I can think of quite a few reasons why they would do that, all of them legit and within the rules of the game.

However, I think Ren has it right - worry less about other people's motives, there's nothing you can do about that. Worry more about what you can do - like equipping your ship appropriately, choosing a game mode suitable for your playstyle, or having your GTFO-high-wake-plan practiced and second nature.

No, I don't think that's a particularly good test at all. Can anyone elaborate on the expression "seal clubbing" please? I've seen it bandied around, but I don't get the context.

Basically seal-clubbing means attacking something that can’t fight back, a reference to clubbing baby seals to death for their skins.
And you’re right, that s no test at all- I was practicing my sense of irony..... perhaps it’s rusty

No Taffer....this is irony...they make it out of girders apparently

No TP, that’s dilution for Vodka!

Seal Clubbing refers to the killing of new pilots in starter zones or near enough.

Everyone is able to defend themselves, that's just a matter of education.

Some would argue about whether seal clubbing includes Harmless Pilots in the big 3 ships, I say no personally, they have played the game long enough to get an anaconda, corvette or cutter, then they are no longer new, because their combat, trade or exploration rank is no longer in the lower tiers.

I see, thanks!

Attacking things that can't fight back is a long-standing tactic in most conflicts, isn't it? Hitting supply lines to hurt the enemy's logistics, targeting civilians to demoralise them and all that.

As distasteful as they are, they have cause & effect beyond simple sadism. The unarmed hauler / spacebus / explorer may indeed cry foul or "seal clubbing" when they are destroyed, probably completely unaware of their potential to harm another's faction with what they were carrying.

On the other hand, sadistic players who blow you up for the lols do exist, and that's not likely to change! So it's down to us to make sure we're equipped properly, in a mode suitable for how we like to play, with a few tricks up our sleeves
