RenraikuSeal Clubbing refers to the killing of new pilots in starter zones or near enough.

Everyone is able to defend themselves, that's just a matter of education.

Some would argue about whether seal clubbing includes Harmless Pilots in the big 3 ships, I say no personally, they have played the game long enough to get an anaconda, corvette or cutter, then they are no longer new, because their combat, trade or exploration rank is no longer in the lower tiers.

Oh this is interesting - Ren's definition of "seal clubbing" is killing newbie pilots, which is quite different from the other definition of killing those who can't fight back.

Hmm, I've come to the conclusion that it's a silly and subjective expression. I don't think I'll be using it myself!

But thanks for the education fellas! 7

Mobanditohow does a player benefit from taking out another player with no bounty and minimal cargo

Did this happen to you, Mobandito? If so, what happened?

I can think of quite a few reasons why they would do that, all of them legit and within the rules of the game.

However, I think Ren has it right - worry less about other people's motives, there's nothing you can do about that. Worry more about what you can do - like equipping your ship appropriately, choosing a game mode suitable for your playstyle, or having your GTFO-high-wake-plan practiced and second nature.

Silver TafferCould be another form of seal-clubbing! Most exploration ships are not configured for combat, some not even carrying weapons to save on weight. That and the necessary lightweight engineering for enhanced jump range makes them an ideal target to test out a fully PvP engineered ship, huh?

No, I don't think that's a particularly good test at all. Can anyone elaborate on the expression "seal clubbing" please? I've seen it bandied around, but I don't get the context.

so i guess open play is for fighters only. im a trader my cuter is built for trade not fighting Their rebuy costs are nothing so they have little to lose.

No, Open play is for players who are prepared for other players - that does not necessarily mean fighting.

For my first year in the game, I used to smuggle and trade Rares in a T6 in Open. Fighting would be a foolish option in a T6, so I learned how to escape trouble.

Your Cutter is more than capable of surviving and evading a player attack.

Here's a must-see for every Open player, trader or otherwise:

Once you form a wing, you have an organized group effecting other factions thru the BGS, whether you know it or not. You're no longer background traffic which can be compensated for, you're a political entity. Spying is fair game.

That’s what Richard Nixon said, innit?

Agree, if there's one ship that can easily survive, it's the Cutter. In one CG, SDC were blockading the CG station with 3 full wings. Usually I fly solo/group only, but on this day I wanted to see what my Cutter could take, prepared to eat the rebuy if need be. I had around 3000 MJ highly resistant shields and dual SCBs in the military slots as defense, nothing else.

With that I left the station and made my run for highwaking out. SDC opened up with all they had. I made it out without losing shields, though my modules took a fair beating. I was leaking some cargo due to a malfunctioning hatch. No idea how this would have played out if I had MRPs instead of the SCBs.

Haha nice job Numa

Outwitting and outplaying those out to get you is hugely satisfying, and exciting!
18 Sep 2018, 4:48pm
Good on you, Numa.

I’m betting that cargo hatch malfunction was due to heat damage? Just curious.
18 Sep 2018, 4:50pm
I honestly was too busy at that moment to check what was damaging my modules
But I guess so. Flechettes didn't exist yet, and I know of nothing else doing such substantial damage to modules with shields up.
18 Sep 2018, 4:55pm
Haha!  Fair point.  Those are stressful situations.

I suspect there might’ve been some heat weapons too.  All the stuff you were doing can generate a lot of heat and potentially hurt your FSD.  Obviously, your ship was built and flown well enough to get away with no real problem.

Cargo hatches are flimsy things.  Just ask the Pirates around here.  ;)

i know not to do CG's ever again there is no credits in it to replace what you lose
18 Sep 2018, 6:28pm
Once credits are no longer an object revisit them. If the excitement of unpredictability is for you, CGs in Open are one of the best places to go.
18 Sep 2018, 6:35pm
This is the first CG Ive participated in, 3 runs in my type 9 and im already at the top 50 percent contributers

Gotta ask though, are they normally this quite? I have expected to be interdicted every 3 seconds by players but i found it rather serene.

The mail slot though is a graveyard. Impatient players + players that use standard docking computers like myself on heavy ship = many many many impatient player deaths
