I'm pretty sure it was the fuel.

You had a fuel level of 10.23 + one ton of reserve when entering the system and a consumption of 4.63. That comes out somewhere around two and a half hours by continous consumption. Then the drop out of SC when your reserve was used up, exactly 15 minutes after the drop you died (C-rated lifesupport I guess).

I'm far from an expert on the ED logs, but I'm fairly sure that UI warnings don't get logged.

I know the fault was my own. Just trying to find out what. Didnt see a low fuel warning in the logs. Or heat damage.

Ty for translating it for me. Lesson learned. Im going back out there. This time better equipped

Doing missions from one system (or area) to build reputation with the factions. The better reputation with a faction the better missions you get.

Honk (use your scanner) every system you enter and sell the data at Universal Cartographics. This is almost free money.

Use the trade interface to find profitable cargo to keep your hold full. Empty cargo holds earn no money.

Do community goals that are near you. Usually profitable trading (or mining, or combat or...) and then you get a bonus of between 100,000 and 800,000 depending on how well the goal does. That bonus is for one ton; If you get in the top 50% (probably not as someone new, but possible) you can get over a million.

Does this sound like hard work? I guess so. There are short cuts, but I think they short cut the fun of the game and that's the goal.

I'm glad they are saying they are going to remove the board flipping, and if the accuracy of their record keeping shows that less than 3% of the games population does it. The number of people it will actually effect in a negative way is more likely zero; because with the boards refreshing/loading in a more timely manner, those guys will probably not have to continue to resort to such an exploit.

Honestly, I do not participate in the board flipping. That is most likely due to the fact that I pick missions from both sides of the path I fly down. There's no reason to Not take the mission from the station you just docked with if they are going to send you back to where you were already heading.

Make more efficient use of your cargo hold.
Don't fly around empty if you have to stop somewhere.
It is a whole universe out there, haha!

Participating in BgS can be a good way to make credits.

This kind of advice makes me want a Like button on Inara

You wouldn't go far wrong following this, Slverfox!

Frontier just helped me out with my mistake. It made my first exploration less painful from my mistake. It has to be said. They do help when you ask. And thankfully they understood the mistake i made and helped me out with the data.

It really depends on what you like to do.

For trading, use Inara or another online trading tool to find decent trade routes - depending on the money you have you can easily double your investment in cargo. If you're daring and willing, there are places where you can make 4-5k per ton hauling Imperial slaves, but you have to have the money to invest in that kind of cargo. If you're really low on funds, take a small cargo ship to an outbreak or other troubled system and find missions to deliver cheap commodities that they particularly need. You can build a solid cushion this way.

For mining, you can try your luck looking for Painite or Low Temp diamonds. It can take a lot of time (relatively) but the payoff can be huge, depending on where you sell your haul. Again, check Inara for where to sell for good profit.

For exploration, Road to Riches.

For BH you're already doing it - the added "benefit" is you're ranking up your Combat - note that the game will send NPCs after you who match your Combat skill, so when you're trading later in the game, the pirates who come after you will be that much tougher.

There's a bunch of other stuff you could do - rares trading, long distance deliveries.... Is smuggling still a profitable thing??

What got me over the early hump was doing a few Community Goals. There is a guaranteed payoff on top of the actual activity, just for participating, and the more you do the better it gets. It's an easy way to get into a better ship that then makes any of the above even more effective.

Also, wing up with people and share the spoils, either with wing missions or just by working together - you get a part of their bounties and trade profits, and they get a part of yours, and it's more fun.

Welcome to the game. Have fun! See you out there.

Woo. For my data of nearly two weeks out exploring i made 61.3 mil credits. Happy. Making me go back out for more. Tagged about 200 planets under my name. Only scanned what was worth it, happy days

SlverfoxI tried a quick road to riches route. https://www.spansh.co.uk/riches/results/B2434798-C5D9-11E8-A8E0-E73E58898281?from=Kremainn&max_distance=2440&max_results=4&radius=100&range=10 Maybe I'm doing something wrong. Some of the planets weren't there and I only made 500k from the route.

Try this one: https://canonn.science/codex/ram-tahs-mission/

~ 100 000 000 credits in four days or so. Read ship specs carefully, Sidewinder isn't enough. Easiest way to get some money for a better ship is delivery missions.

P.S. By the way, about planets that weren't there. Your ship has Basic Discovery Scanner which is pretty much useless. It can only detect planet at 500 ls radius which is good for nothing. If you want to explore - get Advanced Scanner for 1,5 mln first.

Make sure your Discovery Scanner is 'advanced' or you won't see all the planets when you 'honk'. Only ever use the top end 'Advanced' one, the other two are basically of little to no use. You need a 'Detailed surface scanner' as well, to do a proper scan as you approach each body - that's the bit that gets you the big money. The detailed surface scan that the discivery svanner does does not make anywhere near as many credits, as little as half I think (that bit may be off, but it is considerably less, and takes longer as well)

EDIT - Just noticed Shynn already told you this, doh!

Always use and advanced discovery scanner AND a detailed surface scanner for big bucks and finding planets you can mine those oh so rare materials on in good percentages.... I'm so glad I got my advice in first and nobody has told you that already...
