Elite: Game talk

Na'NiI might have just made the biggest error in a long time. Ive been in the black for nearly two weeks i think. Scanning anything above and icy body. Taking massive detours to see nebulas and such. Playing 6 hours a day. My mother arrives to my house in a panic because a virus is chewing through her laptop and shes about to loose 10 years of work. A story shes writing. I put my ship into 0 throttle in supercruise mode. A fairly empty system. I wasnt pointed at anything. Thinking this wont take long, left elite running in background
Return 3 hours later..ship distroyed and no idea how. I didnt rebuy. I logged out and have asked frontier help how did i die. I know. My own error. But want to kniw...star? Planet?. . Ive asked if i can get the data back, but dont think its likely as this was my own foolish mistake..feel so low right now

That was one of my earliest mistakes. You ran out of fuel. Even if you drop out of hyperspace and sit there floating at idle, you're burning fuel. Even if you exit to the Main Menu. Always, always, always find SOME place to set down and power down. Turn off all non-essential systems unless you will be completely exiting the game.

I TOTALLY feel for you, friend. It's not something that's made obvious. But if you follow the huge rescue mission that happened earlier this year, you'll see the tactics that commander had to use in order to stay alive long enough for the Fuel Rats to make it out to her.

SlverfoxI'm new to the game. Other than helping kill in Extraction Sites whats a good way to make money for a new player.

So far, the fastest is going to be passenger missions. Configure your ship with passenger cabins and start working those kinds of missions.

Having to "tune in" each body in a system in order to discover it? Unless I'm quite misunderstanding. Sounds like quite the time sink to me.

And I don't think these are proposed changes. I'm pretty sure it's at the "we're doing this" stage, it's just a matter of when.

Sounds like it will take a little bit of activity and skill to discover stuff. Far preferable to the holding a button for a few secs "gameplay" we currently have for exploration.

I understand that activity and skill aren't to everyone's tastes, and that's ok.

Yes, you are most certainly right about it being a done thing, with some refinements coming from the beta. Looking forward to it

Oh, I'll be curious to try it for myself, and I can understand the argument that exploration and discovery are perhaps a bit too easy now. However I've got a feeling that with these changes it's going to end up as tedious as mining. I hope I'm wrong.

A bit too easy? I'm sorry, but given that exploring is my chosen occupation, I disagree. As it stands, even with the ADS you need to get within range of any planet you want details on and use a DSS if you want to make the big bucks. But there are absolutely times when all I wanted to do is get the quick cash and just pop in, ADS the system and move on. If they're new process is going to slow me down, I'm not a fan.

Let's try it first, then we'll see. Elite is a ever changing game, so let's adapt and overcome.

I agree with you on the Passenger mission variant to rake in good paying missions. Though the best combo is to be Allied with Minor factions near a System where the destination lies far inside. Highest payouts I found for such were 20mil so far.

There are also those Industry needs Wing missions out there with the occasional 50mil on completion payout. But those might be a bit too hard for beginners unless you have someone kind enough to complete them and then invite 3 more Commanders to share the wealth.

Sounds to me like Exploration will still be as profitable and you’ll have more interesting things to do per system.

Right now, it’s essentially flying around a planetarium. That’s still kinda neat, but these changes sound promising.

Yeah dude, I know how exploration works, considering that I do quite a bit of it myself.

StarganzLoitering incursion for sure!

You would think, but I was not.
I was waiting to the side like you sometimes see the AI do for other AI large ships. I never see the AI do it for me though, that was the first time I had one change course to run me over, haha!!

I like when you're on of the first set of docks just inside the mailslot, so you move vertically to begin leaving just to see a ship coming in the door.

Give me the 200 dollar fine, I'm pushing this bitch out of the way.

I do wish a second hand ship market or option came to the game.

you can buy old second hand ships repair them but have less integrity than the new ships or even upgrade the old ships and sell them on for a proffit..

Would be a great angle for new commanders and older ones .

Selling of their old (engineerd) ships or equipment at a dealership for some extra cash while new commanders can get a cheap ship or equipment .

This would add some legacy to the ships as the flight logs will remain. infamous ships legandary ships or ships with just plain bad luck. .

Exactly some rare high grade engineer equipment or some rare and expensive techbroker equipment.

It's a shame that the settings tab does not scroll.

Try this:

1) Locate the folder where EDDiscovery is installed.
2) Unistall EDDiscovery.
3) Delete the folder found in step 1.
4) Reinstall EDDiscovery.

It looks like the settings are stored in SQLite databases (.PDB) files in that folder.

Alternatively, you could try just deleting the .PDB files, but who know what that will do.

We have Gankers, Griefers, Pirates and alien Bug monsters - and you want to see *shudder* second hand vehicle salesmen! Is there no end to the depravity. What next, Space Lawyers!

Seriously though - Great idea, I think it would really add something, and and I especially like the 'ships with history' part. Now I just have to remember where I put the V5 logbook for my AspX...
