Elite: Game talk

NumaThe thing is, people are at those hotspots, because they are the places of interest in the game. If you are frequently engineering ships, enjoy doing CGs or even some powerplay, then open is that murderhole. I fully agree that there's little to fear somewhere out in the boonies. But why fly in open then anyway, since you won't even notice the differemce.

I've got to disagree, the only engineer I ever have problems at is Farseer, and then maybe a quarter of the time. Most times even the engineers are friendly places.

"Try the beta!", they said. "It'll be fun!", they said.

HALF AN HOUR IN HYPERSPACE. FOR 1 JUMP.

It's a beta. Expect stuff to break and report it to FDev like you are supposed to in a beta.

These playing in open (purposely) knew where usually expect troubles and do adequate preparations. CGs have times when is unwise go there (once you see multiple wing of potentially hostile cmdrs) and times when you can go there in unshielded T9. But mostly open is mode where unexpected encounters (bad or good) can happen. I like open for all these (and more) reasons. Calling open 'murder hole' is funny, but that's obviously just my personal view on such statement, similarly I can say that PG or solo are boring, but this it it, it's again just personal view. Every player can play ED in a way which bring him the most fun and which suits his actual mood. I like that ED allow it.

Ryan MurdocFlying in various instances = personal preference of the person.

Everyone has their own opinion on the matter, but those opinions don't make either (Open / PG / Solo) better or worse in any possible way.

And personal opinions are just that - personal. Voicing them doesn't require anyone else to follow them or feel bad about themselves, because opinions are no rules.

Blaze your own trail. That's it.

I agree with Ryan.
Opinions are not law, to anyone but the person who has said opinion.
There is no reason to attempt to force any opinion on another person.
We can all get along by acknowledging that other people will have opinions that may not match our own, and we are not required to debate or sway them.

[KuroroI think that the spawn rate should be the same in the entire area of influence of that body, but sometimes it just takes extremely long time, so i'm not sure.

That's my question, what is the area of influence?

you can see the area of influence you are in right now if you look at the target area in your Cockpit on the left side.
It either says a stellar Body Name or something like "shipping lane" or "Deep space"

You typically have guns on your ship. Learn to use them. And learn when and how to run if the situation dictates.

I'm wondering, if I let my cobra spin wildly around its own roof during long supercruise will I be able to create at least some amount of artificial "gravity"?

In game, no. It's not modeled.
In reality, also no. You'd have to do a barrel roll, not just a spin. Even then, the difference in felt gravity between your head and feet would be enough to cause discomfort. You need a pretty large radius to rotate around (a kilometer or two, if I recall) to avoid that.

Very narrow turns will result in a high G effect on your CMDR though, iirc.

I have a couple of pulse lasers on my Sidey. I just use em for anchors so I don't float away. I think if I tried to use them for guns it would be like throwing dried peas against a concrete wall.

Hey, can someone verify these calculations?

Using this ship, when jumping 15 ly at a time (calculating as 4.5 due to FSD booster), only taking into account fuel usage from jumping, leaving 8 tons of fuel in the tank, and using the wiki's fuel usage equation, you can travel 487,410 light years on a single tank of fuel. (32,494 jumps)

I think I may have messed up somewhere, which is why I'm asking about the validity of my results.
