Yes, there is the FSD reboot mod that one can put onto a dumbfire missile. They seem to work against NPCs... for the most part.

Question...

I'm fairly new to Elite; only about 6 months in.  And I've only just recently started dipping my toes into combat.  After a recent fight, I've noticed that I've started seeing a plus icon on my HUD under my shield readout.  It seems to only show up when I pass a star (scooping).  Is this indicating a weakness in my shield coverage or a hull issue that needs repairing?  I plan on going to a station to get repairs anyway but it's good to know what my ship's telling me when I'm deep in the black and away from civilization...

Glockman59if they high wake out that bypasses the mass lock right?

Does it apply to player ships as well, then? I'm really curious if running away when things get hot also gives player the very same mechanic.

it does and its really the only way to get away from gankers besides being a private group warrior

I'd be careful with Open Mode and Ganker used in the same statement. Even though I have a lot of bad experiences with Open despite a lot of attempts, but that's thanks to the fact the Xbox "randomers" over there are just bloodthirsty killers, save for VERY few exceptions. After such experiences, I dropped to even try Open on Xbox after almost a damn year of trying.

From what I've heard and read, PC players meet with way less number of such "mindless" PKers than on Xbox One. Is that true?

Having played on XBOX and PC I'd say the general rule of thumb still applies: if you're going to a player hot spot be prepared for possible trouble.

That said, there's a lot more hot spots on PC than XBOX (PowerPlay capitals, Engineer systems not called Deciat, and so on).

It's rather a shout out to the fact there are no pirates on Xbox One, what is annoyance of mine. It is troubling especially for the people who want to try piracy, but meet with agressive reaction from the traders even though they are given clear signal the "bad guys" just want small chunk of the cargo, doesn't want trader dead (unless provoked) and want to provide a mutually pleasant interaction.

Paranoia after extreme trolling and abuse all over Xbox, I say.

That's hardly an accurate description of the XBOX community. There's lots of great folks on there having a lot of fun.

I'd agree though that piracy isn't popular on there. Lots of reasons for that stretching back to the early days.

Then call out my bad luck, but trying every possible CG from December 2017 and having such experiences cannot be just a pure coincidence. Unless I really had bad luck even trying a few different times a day and different days during each CG.

gankers galore at the cg's. but i fly in open all the time except when board flipping and cant be bothered to see which mode im in. and i rarely run into hostile players. either people o7 me or just ignore the fact that were are near

Yes, watch out for those mean ol' scary gankers.

I wouldn't call them gankers, I mean, they have to interdict you in supercruise, and you can assign a key to "select hostile target" which is already pre-bound on the keyboard. That lets you see who is doing the interdicting without having to actually scan them. Then you can decide to try and avoid the interdiction or submit to it.

A gank implies that you had no idea it was coming and had no way of avoiding it. While in this game, you get both as long as you practice your due diligence for your own cargo/ship survival.
As far as most cargo's are concerned, they are mission specific and if you drop that stuff, I don't think you can replace it with stuff you might find on the market, but I never tested that.
The items get tagged as "haulage" in your inventory pane.

I had no idea that the mass lock factor only applies to low wake, the ai never does low-wake to escape, they always do high; system hoppers, the lot of them. Now I understand that for the most part, Yo Joe.

I really do need to reorganize the weapons for better armor penetration to take out those FSD's sooner then. I had an idea for that, but I need to test it, that'll be next time I visit a station to swap stuff.

No, I would define gank as a completely outclassed fight - to no benefit to the ganker other than personal gratification.

For example, a CMDR wiping out a CG transporter in their heavily engineered Cutter, simply because they can. The ganker, not interested in the cargo or altering the CG outcome. Just easy CMDRs for the gank to chew on and post on YouTube.

I've always understood "gank" to simply mean to overwhelm - the reasons for doing so being completely irrelevant.

It's a tactic advocated by Sun Tzu and tacticians throughout the ages.
