Elite: Game talk

LittleBigWolf69I'm new to E:D, only been playing for 7-8 hours... still in the original Sidewinder with 250k credits... which is probably slow going but I'm happy with that.

hinking about my next ship, really keen on the Viper MkIV as I really like how it looks, and its equipped well and seems like a great all round ship and I can still fly alone.

However the Cobra MkIII seems just as well equipped (maybe better, maybe not) is faster, less protected though, cheaper, and it's the original starting ship but not as nice looking imo and needs extra crew.

They are both at the price point I think would be good for the next ship, rather than going cheaper and upgrading, prefer to take a bit longer and get one of these and upgrade.

So... what do you CMDRs think... of the two, which would you choose and why, Cobra MkIII or Viper MkIV?

Regarding the internal modules, the two ships are very similar, having the same internal modules. So once you fully upgrade internally one of the ships  you can buy the other ship and swap the modules.  Actually the modules cost much more than the ships.
Actually to fully upgrade your Cobra the cost is 7 Million credits.
The cost of the Cobra is 205 800.
So the price of the ship is 3% from the price of the A graded Cobra.
So the question for you is how fast to get those credits?
One way to do that very fast and with no risk is to Go in Open. Join another crew and fly their fighter, or just ask politely if you can sit and watch. You can say that you want to watch how a pro is maneuvering, I doubt that anybody would refuse that ego boost, and that would not be a lie too. They will get a pip for their distributor.
Then you will get a million in no time, without any risk. It is ideal if you can join Anaconda, Federal Corvette or a Cutter as a crew member.
Usually those ships are heavily engineered with Commanders who know  exactly what they are doing, and actually they are not doing that for credits but for mere fun. When you fly the fighter stay close to the mother ship, very close, and attack only their target. If the mother ship attacks a wing, only in that moment things become hairy for you. Immediately run and boost away if your shields go down and deploy chaff or heat sink whatever you have. If the mother ship is attacking  a single target it will completely ignore you. You can attack, choose as a beginner a fighter with gimballed weapon.

Another funny game mechanic is to buy a Hauler and to make Data missions. Those missions pay a lot very early in the game as you can stack them up to 20. That is not any meaningful sum for late game, but early in the game it is interesting. You go to Mainani /check youtube for educationa videos for how to do it/. There is the imperial ranks grind zone. But you can just take the credits and not the ranking.
https://s.orbis.zone/12ow
With that build you can navigate easily in the Bubble with 26 ly jump range. The Hauler is the second best ship without engineering regarding the jump range. Many commanders keep that ship even if they progress further in the game.
If you make 31 000 per hour, doing the Mainani run you will make a Million and more per hour. If you are interdicted by NPC make your best to win (Hauler is very maneuverable so you should  be able to win against any NPC), if you are loosing submit and refer to the guides what to do next.

That's a really good option, actually, haha

For making the money.

It sounds like you're making credits pretty fast. As much as I'm a fan of the Viper IV... Don't do it. Most ships are pretty bad until they get upgrades. Buy an adder and start upgrading that, then the money will start to flow faster. The Adder is a great little all around ship.

I bought an Eagle for my second ship and I use it as a police assisted bounty hunter. It's fun to fly and very nimble in the asteroid fields. I've scored a few kills in it but I do need to get more proficient. The Adder was my third ship and a joy to fly. I stuck some passenger cabins in it and hauled people all over with stacked up data missions going to the same place. Then configured it as a dedicated surface prospector ship when I got the Cobra. Got a Hauler to make into a dedicated surface prospector and reconfigured the Adder as a small trader ship. The Cobra is now my temporary passenger/data mission ship until I can buy a Dolphin. Last ship I bought is a T6 I'm setting up for mining. When I get a Dolphin and a Diamondback Explorer my small fleet will be complete. I'll probably reconfigure the Cobra for cargo and stacked data runs. DBX will be the exploration ship of course. Then I can just putter around doing what ever comes to mind and have lots of options to switch to if I get bored of any one thing.

(New to Inara not the game) Not sure if this is the place to ask this. But if anyone wants a Fighter Pilot I work for a cut of profits. I am proficient in Fixed and do well in a Tipan Fixed Beam. Prefer to work with a experienced CMDR I don't feel like going home in a Escape pod. Just looking for time In a fighter without having to worry about the mother ship.

Plexus, it just depends on the time zone. You need to see when you play if there are available slots in open for fighters. Sometimes I do that myself just letting my Anaconda in the Hangar and I just want to have some fun. You are welcome in my crew to meet a Conda with maximized performance for PVE.

What will you be doing in it? Combat: Viper. Everything else: Cobra Mk III.

It's next Tuesday, my dudes.

At 0:46 there are a suspicious number of ships exiting an asteroid field

This is a weird one, haha.
I'm trying to figure out how to identify if a station has more internal lighting, anyone have any ideas short of docking?
03 Dec 2018, 5:30pm
Thanks for all the advice CMDRs, really appreciated.

Looks like the Cobra is the way to go, as I'm happy at the moment just trading and exploring, not feeling up to PvP or other combat just yet.

Will look at getting the ship kit to spice up the looks.

Thinking may even add a passenger cabin or two and get some more credits that way.

Cheers

Different economies will have different station interiors. Agriculture will have large greenhouses, foundries will have large forges.

High tech stations tend to have more lighting, so that could be what you're referring to?

Tourist stations are the brightest out of all the stations.

In my experience, anyway.

It's a good ship and I'm sure you will like it. I kinda think it's the Swiss Army Knife of ships as it does pretty much everything reasonably well and still be affordable.

The Cobra Mk III was the very first ship I bought and I used it for a very long time. You'll have no issues doing those things in it. I still have mine and take it out from time to time.
