That's a great video showing a suitably embarrassed Kolo using the Fuel Rats on a live stream but, just to clarify, it was recorded in late September this year so it's always available to watch for anyone reading this thread afterwards.

I hope it's the right place here...!
Since I play ED about 2 year's I get always the same question in mind during a jumb :
WHY! Why does a jump always take the same amount of time? No matter if I jump 5.5 LY or 55!
In my view, there can be no scientific / physical reason for it. Or? Or is it a question of work/coding?

Thargoid Siting in deciat. Currently there are rescue ships. Really bad video on my part. However it is proof that they are in the bubble as of 12/9. https://youtu.be/PTe7yUFA1QE

WilliamReacefound an aquarius class tanker, that is dmg'd by thargoids in Deciat orbiting the gas giant next to felicity farseers' engineering base.

If anyone is interested.

Bring your (recon) limpits

Because - video game.

Seriously though, my understanding is that the hyperspace bit you see when making a jump is, from a software standpoint, basically a loading screen.

This is way too sensible an answer.

Hyperspace is magic. Einstein's relativity equation shows a relationship between mass and energy. The Pilot's Federation has built it's space travel monopoly on finding a similar conversion factor between mass-energy and time. In order to bridge the gap between two very distant points in space, which you would normally have to span with a great and proportional amount of time we instead keep the time constant but invest a significant amount of mass-energy. The longer your jump the more mass (fuel) you need to convert into the the energy required to manipulate spacetime. Neutron stars provide energy beyond that available from the mass of the fuel, and alien technology allows us to tap into the mass-energy at a quantum level. All for the benefit of keeping jump times short and consistent, regardless of the distance we need to travel.

Its a common question you see on Reddit / Steam forums to be fair. More reading...

"ED Wiki"A hyperspace jump requires precise calculations with quantum mechanics and a discrete amount of energy. A misjump can be disastrous. For example when a ship emerges from hyperspace after a misjump, the pilot's body is turned inside out.

...the... pilot's... body... is turned... inside out??

Haha

And the science answer is:
When you draw two points on opposite sides of a piece of paper and fold the paper over to make them right next to each other the distance between them becomes the same, (regardless of how far apart they are in your reality) before you created the "bridge" which made the jump possible. Therefore all jumps traverse the same amount of distance through said "bridge."

You pretty much nailed this.

YIS Jan 13th !

I'm guessing you are going right? What ship are you taking? I really wanna do this but don't know if I'll have a ship ready by then. Leaning towards a refit on my T6. Still need to take a visit out to Aunty Felicity for some FSD and PP tweaks.

I'm going, haha, taking my aspX, so I've got a second seat and a single rover if you'd prefer.
Although I'm also pretty sure there will be others taking larger ships with extended range fittings and more seats.
