New to the game. Is there a way to increase explorer rank in the starting area, Pilots' Federation?


You can venture out of the new pilot's area > 20 ly to explore, and return to the new pilot's area to turn it in. Keep in mind that LANDING outside of the new pilot zone will cause the starting area to be off limits. So, make sure you pack a fuel scoop and anything else you might need to be self-sufficient.  Also, I'm not sure what happens if you die & respawn at a local (outside new pilot area) station.

I would encourage you to not stay in the starter area longer than needed.  Better ships, modules, missions, etc. await you in the rest of the game, plus it's a lot more fun out here (gestures broadly).  Why do you want to gain rank but stay in the starting area?

A question for more experienced players:

What stations have you encountered that are (most definitely) not as bad as the travel time to Hutton Orbital, but still take quite a chunk out of your time?

Namorodo has a B star that is about a 20 minute SC flight from the jump-in point. I forget the name of the station there.

Edit: Sevastyanov Station, 479503 ls out.

Namorodo has a B star that is about a 20 minute SC flight from the jump-in point. I forget the name of the station there.


Oh my god that's awful; reminds me of some of the worse neighboring systems around my home system.

Yeah, I made that trip over there to unlock Palin. It was totally worth it though as I was able to put my name on the map in several systems on the way.

It seems like there're still a lot of undiscovered systems in that direction.

Yeah, and it's the only station in the system. Imagine FDEV accidentally placing player faction in there ...

It's also great if you go very above or very below the galactic plane. I found a system I dubbed, "Subplanaria," in Theau Pri XK-V D3-0 that has an Earth-like I dubbed, "Deux Terra."

You mean like Hutton Orbital Truckers [ID is HUTT] whose Player Minor Faction is Hutton Orbital Truckers Cooperative which is based out of Hutton Orbital?

It just returned from 12k ly years trip to Formidine Rift. It will stay parked in Rana for now. I do not plan anything soon. I just love throwing my cash to the crew.
