KheprI'm guessing you can't get the CG DSS anymore? Too bad I was so far out in the black...

Yeah I was at betancourt, nothing? Don't know what I'm missing. Also no payout afaik, but maybe I deleted the message or something?

Hello all, i am trying to make some money but after the update and figure that since laser mining has been neutered by latest update, i would go back to cores for a while.
Just curious but i have had a bit of an idea. Now according to the miners tool:

"For core mining, hotspots increase the probability of finding the named core type vs other core types, but not the number of cores.
I do not maintain a list of known hotspots for Serendibite.
"

Does this mean you do not actually need hotspots to find cores, that the frequency is the same?
Now my idea is basically due to the "demand" being much lower than it was, i was thinking of the possibility
that a variety of minerals sold in a loop might work better than holding out for the same sort in hotspots.

Any thoughts?

I don't know how the market is actually coded in ED but from a purely economical perspective it would work better because it's less effort and market satisfaction would kick in later because you don't spam it with the same thing. As for actually selling better depends on the general prices of the stuff you mine. As long as it's reasonably higher than prices of a satisfied market it should work nicely.

Igneel PrimeI like the Vette (mostly because of the style tbh) but I feel like while large ships in general have that kinda effect the Vette especially makes people get ahead of themselves. Similar thing happens with the Anaconda but a lot of newer players I talked to thought they'd be the new sheriff in town once they got into a Vette (or Anaconda for that matter).

Yeah, I fell for that too
Back in an early Beta I took advantage of the heavily discounted ships to buy a Corvette (no way I could afford one in the main game at that time) and headed for the HazRes feeling like Arnold bloody Schwarzenegger. It did not end well, and that was against NPC’s! I got totally bossed!

On the plus side it put me off buying one until I really needed to, and I used my Anaconda as a donor ship to buy, engineer and store all the main modules before buying the hull.

Lesson learned

You can still make it work quite well. I love my HazRes Vette but it misleads people into thinking it comes out of the box as a beast.

You can, but in my case I hadn’t the experience to do so back then!

True dat

Whereas a fully engineered ‘Vette is the real beast, out of the box it’s a yappy terrier! It nips rather than savages!

EpisparhHm, reading the Galnet... I haven't beet to The Roof of Space... How is the trip to there with normal ship?

I tried to get there the last 2 days. Finally Googled it...forget it. You need a Fleet Carrier. I guess the last few jumps are over 100 or 200 LYs.

On the bright side, I got my name on a few planets now. Made over 50,000,000cr just honking and scanning any system over 10 planets.

I took a pirate massacre wing mission solo with my Resolution..
Dropped to threat 6 to find FDL in wing with 3 Vultures and since I am combat rank Elite - they were too.
First attempt killed all three vultures but the FDL high waked. Repairs for me were higher than rebuy.
Second attempt same setup - went directly for the FDL ended running... Successfully with 0%, repair cost was insane.
Third time is the charm. Got one vulture less and I had premium ammo. Killed the FDL and then the support wing. No repairs.

The other critical encounter was in HazRes, a wing of 3 Elite anacondas 2 of which had SLF. The Resolution barely survived the escape again.

The conclusion of the story is "Pick your fights carefully even with highly engineered builds, a high ranked NPC wings are not so easy as some may think."

I don't think the massacre missions are worth the effort. The assassination missions however are different. Since they're more a hit and run format you can make 4.5mil + target bounty in a 10 minute adventure going in and out. I could probably fit a Vette for them but I prefer my Cutter. Same targets as your first encounter. 1 FDL and 2-3 Vultures

Doing proper combat build is not easy ... on my first attempt I put 4 beam lasers on a cobra (damage per second looks good, should work well

When confronted with reality on first flight .... the distributor can't power them for long even at four pips and the ship is overheating way too quickly (usually more quickly than the target I was aiming at
... so time to read some more guides and start experimenting and mixing pulse/burst lasers with multicannons.

Engineering and proper build does a lot.
For example a fully engineered Fer-de-lance - https://s.orbis.zone/4kuf has shields that can handle 5-10x more damage than stock FDL and hull that can handle 10x more damage than stock FDL. Enhanced thrusters (better maneuverability), weapons (more damage) and capacitors (have energy to keep firing) will add more to the difference.

I hear that the NPCs have perfect aim, perhaps to compensate for the game AI.

Is there a method of logging the types of weapon strikes on you? I'm curious if the NPCs also have Engineered modules/builds.

Synthya WylderI'm curious if the NPCs also have Engineered modules/builds.

SpecOps NPCs in conflict zones are usually engineered. I sometimes encounter Vultures with shield-bypassing lasers. Can't have those without engineering.

Sorry my bad, it might been assassination...the target was the FDL - the reward was 31 mil.

Usually high ranked NPCs have engineering and it is a random combination which sometime is garbage but sometime is big pain.

There's a few carriers heading out today and tomorrow that are scheduled to get to the system before Wednesday night/Thursday morning. Check the Discord channels or Carrier subreddit. The last jumps are around 300-400LY and there's a few carriers already here. Hopped a ride with my squadleader--we're looking at mining tritium on our way down as the various online tools seem to be off quite a bit for the reserves he had. So far, two landable bodies with geological signals at ~1.3G--which I'm assuming will be the possible sites for the outpost. Could be orbital, but I'm banking on surface.

Best of luck!

Thanks but it is 12 jump for mine if I so desire
