Val57rusWell, what kind of people are you! Shame on you! You are forty years old, more than half of your life has already been lived. What's behind you? What's in the present? What's ahead? Darkness, dirt, fear and nothing human! Come to your senses, come to your senses, before it's too late! Here's my advice

Is the Thermal Conduit experimental effect any good? If I understand it correctly, it basically allows using the ship's integrity pool as premium ammo, boosting DPS by up to 60% while overheating. For example, five fixed beam lasers on the Mamba with grade 5 Overcharged mod would yield 191 DPS by default, and up to 305 DPS while the ship is getting fried. MRPs and HRPs would serve as extra ammo to burn through. Of course a 6A power distributor with Charge Enhanced mod and Super Conduits effect would deplete in about 2 seconds, meaning that the beam lasers would turn into pulse lasers, with 2 seconds max pulse duration and up to 6 seconds distributor recharge time in between.

Engineering would be super fun if one could just quickly assemble such a build and test it, without wasting time on material grinding.

you pretty much always want beam lasers to be long range, the TC effect is very powerful but probably most effective on efficient or short range PAs, depending on the build. But if you are familiar with the death star conda, it can also be used effectively on fixed beams.

I’m currently playing with beams, fixed and gimballed. Found it difficult keeping fixed on target with a HOTAS, so switched to gimbals. Am now considering long range with thermal vent or oversized. Toying with the idea of burst or pulse as well, but I think beams would be a better option. Power is not really an issue.

So I feel the mat burn and grind currently.

With beams, especially big ones, your best bet is efficient and thermal vent for PvE stuff IMO. Overcharged sounds incredibly sexy, but the 70% increase to distributor draw hurts bad on most ships.

+35% distributor draw, +70% damage. Sounds like a good deal to me.

You're right it's +35%, but having done a G5 Overcharged build with 2x Class 4 on my Vette....that distributor draw HURTS. Same on the FDL. Efficient means you can fire for more than a couple seconds and get more sustained DPS. With 2 G5 Overcharged Class 4 on my Corvette with a G5 Recharge Engineered distributor, I could only fire for a couple seconds WITH FULL POWER TO WEAPONS!

Efficient still gets a damage boost too but the decrease to distributor draw is massive. Can fire one class 4 continuously with 3 pips in weapons.

Sustained DPS is overrated IMHO. The reason why plasma accelerators, rail guns, frag cannons etc. are so powerful is because they can inflict massive damage with a single shot. Their sustained DPS however is rather low.

thermal vent works terribly with efficient

There will be another ATOC sponsored PvP event happening on Feb. 13th. It is open to people of all skill levels and will consist of both an engineered an unengineered fight. If you are interested in participating sign up here and join this discord.

This is a video from the previous event.

I hope to see you all there.

.

Currently I have 2 class 4 gimballed beams engineered to G4 (efficient with no experimental) and I can pretty much hold down the fire button continuously with 3 weapon pips, alternating with G5 multicannons.

I’ve been keeping an eye on engagement range, though, and it seems that I average out at about 1.5 km during combat with small and medium ships, due to maneuvering agility. Taking into account the drop off of these weapons with range, it would seem that long range would make sense. I was thinking that thermal vent would help keeping things cool with continuous firing, but I suppose the fact that I would run out of power first sort of negates that concern.

It’s a pity beams don’t have the “focused” mod. Hm, I’m going to have to run some numbers.

I gonna ask again. Do anyone have torpedo ship and want to use one of my cutters as target practice?

I want to test if this two double engineered PDs I have are good for something.

Not a full torpedo boat but I have something that uses torps if you wanna test
