Just get heat sinks.... As soon as you see "Shop Scan detected" pop a heatsink and you will be fine.

QuillmonkeyHi guys n gals.
I've not asked for advice in a while coz I've been zipping around the shiny bits of the galaxy, trying to unlock guardian sectors and trying my best to assassinate the A-hole Dorn (carpet bombing Kraken's Retreat just gets you a rebuy - huh!).

Now tho I've been getting into a bit of PVE smuggling in the icecold dolphin. It runs at a nice temp of 18 so I don't need silent running or heatsinks, just a little boost of speed on entry and no scans. Problem is the size and papery-thin hull. It's a bit small to really make any money from cargo / passenger and as for piracy. There's just no bloody point in trying. Even if I manage to take out the shields before the trader has jumped away, there's not enough space to take in any cargo once you've got your interdictor, hatch breakers and collector limpets.

So, experienced brainsters out there. What mid-sized ship would you use to run at sub 20? for smuggling and piracy. I've tried mock builds in EDSY (coriolis is shit for thermal emissions) and the best I've come up with is Krait Phantom at 19 and Python at 18 but that's with compromises in shield, PP size and weapons and having to disable a hell of a lot of modules every time you dock.

Don't smuggle cold, just go for speed. If you've got a ship which can go above 200 as standard then you won't need to boost the slot anyway.

The Keelback is the perfect ship for this as you'll still slip in even if there's traffic in the slot.

If you're not confident with manual landing at speed then go for boring heatsinks and cold running... but if you're a big boy with hair on your chest then you'll speed every time. 07

Hi! I'm trying to get the Sirius permit and apparently you get that by getting an "allied" status with a Sirius minor faction. How can I tell what's that kind of faction?

EpisparhJust get heat sinks....  pop a heatsink and you will be fine.

Yeah, the old pop a heat sink. If I haven't already used em all on SCB or forgotten to restock and have to synth the ammo.
Nah, heatsinks are entire waste of time on docking. As Threepwood says, speed is the key. The question was about choice of med ship.

JB Threepwood just go for speed. If you've got a ship which can go above 200 as standard then you won't need to boost the slot anyway.

True, I tend to use boost coz I'm lazy and I overuse it everywhere. Always try to go through slots at 180 + to avoid scans and then have to back up the entire length of the station to land on the first row of pads. It's trickier at outposts - you got to keep an eye out for patrols until you are safely underground no matter what speed you do.

JB ThreepwoodIf you're not confident with manual landing at speed

I like to call it the bounce method of landing.

GrimnarssonHi! I'm trying to get the Sirius permit and apparently you get that by getting an "allied" status with a Sirius minor faction. How can I tell what's that kind of faction?

If you have a look at the Sirius System here on inara, it'll say what the factions are that vie for control. I think the one you want to ally with is the Sirius Corporation If you look at their page, you'll see all the systems in which they operate. Head to one of those and get chummy by doing reputation based missions for them.
If you do the old robigo - sothis passenger grind, you can raise this reputation and get about 60m an hour in a python.

Yeah, I've got good shields on my Keelbacks so one trick is to bang the inside of the slot on purpose as it'll slow you down and giving the pad a good thump will slow you down too... but no good in a paper dolphin.

Getting the ship under the deck just sort of comes as natural now.

Even though my main ships can go over 200 I still boost all the time too...

There's probably better combat ships but the Keelback can still put the cat out if you're looking at a bit of piracy.

Thanks for the direction! Having pledged for Sirius Corp and the associated allied statuses threw me off.

How about an AspX? 6 Hardpoints (SSSSMM) compared to the Keelbacks four. 8 OI slots, use the classes 6 and 5 wisely. Very low footprint if so desired. My smuggler AspX is down to 16. You can quickly transform an Exploration build AspX into the build you’re looking for.

I did run the AspX through EDSY and it was good but I couldn't get it down to 16. With thrusters I think it was 21 - which would be okay.  Once you turn off some stuff it'd probably come in sub 20. and I do have an AspX sitting around doing nothing at the moment. I also just tried out Threepwood's idea of the keelback but couldn't get that below 23 and found it limited in utility, OI space and power.

I suppose the question is why would you go for AspX or keelback pirate/smuggle if you can get the same speed & cold run out of, say, a Krait or a Python which have superior weapons and internals?

I'm currently practising in a combat build Mk II which runs quite hot but I can still get in and out of docks pretty much all the time. The issues I still have are:
1) forgetting to clear the station fly-zone before aligning the jump if the target system is behind the station (but this would only affect passenger missions, not cargo).
2) not checking on patrols around outposts and planetary settlements. They seem to come out of nowhere and scan me most of all.

I was thinking that speed and cool would help with both these.

I hear you... well this is my current "low emissions/exploration" AspX build:

https://edsy.org/s/vTLKTeb

It's a hybrid so it's not the best for both worlds, but it's doing a good enough job. And it isn't yet engineered to the max by far. I believe it would do fine with a low emissions(/monstered) 5A PP which has has enough juice for a pair of efficiency engineered burst lasers and quad multicannons. The rest must be thermally optimized.

So along time ago I was in my sidewinder and I found this outpost orbiting a light blue icy body, I know it's within at least 60 ly of Matet and was quite away from the star more than 1000ls but I can't seem to find it. Sometimes I wish I could know what stations and outposts I have been to before since I started playing, and I wish I would have bookmarked it but I was like 12 and didn't know how to do that. I finally got my Imperial Cutter and I want to walk on this beautiful light blue icy planet on Odyssey's launch. If anybody has been there before and knows of the outpost or planet lemme know. I was on Eddb.io for hours and in game and still can't find it.

If you seed your data to inara you can go to your flight log. if you do not seed the data you can still verify your local logs with some third party tools. (Speaking for PC)

Ok, I checked out that you do not have your account synchronized with frontier. You can do this from here https://inara.cz/settings/. I am recomending to use Frontier account instead of steam or epic.

Then you can try to import your data and check your personal flight log.

https://inara.cz/cmdr-flightlog/319426/ This is your flight log. I strongly suggest you to go back to settings and make this available only for you or your squadron. There is tab with privacy settings.

If this is available to everyone you risk this information to be used by other commanders to try and harm you
