EpisparhWhy would you want to do that?

Because I'm too lazy to become a real pirate. Or a real miner.

When wing mining it is different thing.

Well, you should work on that if you want to own a FC. This requires some CR. Not only for initial purchase and maintenance but also for buying fuel (or mining it which I do not recommend)

listening to the ED stream this afternoon, there was a lot of hinting about chaos to come this week, and for sure next week. If anybody here (as Episparh has mention) wants to get in on the action that is surely building - I would be very interested in winging up with fellow Inarians!

Credits don't require mining any more, but the Mamba has set me back a few millions. Need to keep my eyes on the target.

Bounty hunting and combat mission payouts buff was nice but mining is still the most profitable activity.

And the most boring one.

Everything have potential to become boring if practiced extensively.

SakashiroBtw, has anyone tried mining by proxy? I mean equipping a refinery (but no mining laser), going to a RES, approaching one of the miners and collecting their rocks before they do?

The fragments aren't flagged with ownership.  You keep what you collect, however, the miner will likely have point defense (normally to protect against hatch breakers) that may shoot down your limpets.  Also, player miners may take umbrage with your pilfering ofc.

It's a bad idea.  You get no control over what is mined, or how well.  It would be slow, boring, grossly inefficient, and likely to engender mockery or pity instead of ire.  All to avoid the inconvenience of using a mining laser?  You're better off straight up pirating, or, joining a wing of miners in a HazRES and act as their escort to earn the bonus profit or mine it yourself.

Combat is more varied due to the large number of weapons, ships, tactics, locations, mission types etc.

Sure, FDev tried to bring more variation to mining as well, but that just made it more tedious.

Nah, I was just curious what would happen if I grabbed fragments from NPC miners, not planning to make this a new business model ofc.

Btw I heard asteroids in RES have double yield by default, to make up for the added risk of having pirates nearby. Haven't checked it out myself though.

Double only in HazRes. The following bonuses apply to the asteroid contents around 20 km of the RES:
Low Res 25 %
Normal 50 %
High Res 75%
HazRes 100%

Ah, that makes sense. Thanks!

EpisparhNow, after reading so many post about pirating... I realized I never tried this but I want to explore that option.

So here are my initial thoughts:
I will need a  medium ship  with rather cold thermal signature. I will also need some cargo, a hatch breaker and a collector to extract the shinies.  And finally for the hard points, I am thinking of dual Flechette launcher to disable drives/FSD , grom bomb and some canons with force shell to apply counter force to stop the victims from drifting.

...that's probably a Krait Mk2 or a Phantom and most probably without shields. (Python is always an option too but it is a bit slower)

Any advises from experienced outlaws  and pirates before I commence with the preparation? You can safely assume I have all resources and required unlocks.

For npc piracy, I have a very basic set up viper mk4. See bottom of thread for link. You dont need anything super fancy.

I have used the same ship set up with absolutely no engineering to pirate ltds on my alt account to make my first credits...

This covers the basics, after that it all comes down to personal style.

Bump stop is something to learn. Fa off method, or cannons are well known, and youtube findable.

I do it fa on (dont know any others who do this, but it is possible) and once you learn how is best method for you, off you go as there is no "correct" way.

Player piracy tends to be a very different ballgame, and lots of different tricks can be applied for that.

Sirrealist...just discovered that if you try and super charge your frameshift drive and hit the star from the distortions and drop in the cone, you get massive module damage, not from the heat either (though when you charge it to jump out that does make it even worse, got up to 190 heat).  I managed to escape somehow, but had my butt clenched b/c of the rare goods I was carrying for the community goal.

...also, Yurchikhin Port and its star really needs it's own nav beacon ffs.

For future reference, I believe you can't jump while your ship is in that failure state but you should be able to supercruise out.
Please correct me if I'm wrong though
