Sir Sprockett
SakashiroI doubt that SLFs make much of a difference when ganked.

true dat! - but so far the only "ganking " I have had in open while trucking is NPC pirates. I am operating from Alioth System (permit required) which reduces the gankers (they are more about ganking than game progression) - so an SLF could be of use to me - also if being ganked then I can use it to screw with the instance.

If NPCs are your main concern, you can do without MRPs/HRPs. Just make it a shield tank and install turrets.

And if you do happen to meet a ganker, try combat logging.

If you're going to be of the mindset to combat log on gank then have some self respect and play in solo/PG. Combat logging is against TOS if you don't use the timer, and you may not survive long enough if you do. I only say this because many on here are ESL and may not understand Saka is (I hope) joking.

ill probably have some questions, i done a lot of exploring and scanning planets wheres the best place to drop it all off to unlock the permit for Jameson Memorial?
02 Mar 2021, 10:05am
I was joking of course, but when I recommend combat logging, I'm always referring to the TOS-compliant method with the timer. I guess I should have said "menu logging" to make this clear.

It doesn't matter where you drop it off, the rewards are always the same. The permit is unlocked when you reach exploration Elite rank, and that depends on payments earned, not on number of scans.

Re trading.

You could consider it better to make two successful trips at 350t rather than one failed trip at 700t.

Best large trader... Cutter.

Best medium trader... Python.

You can make a very strong python with 240t hold.

You can make a very strong cutter with 720t hold

So the python can do the same haulage as the cutter over three runs.

But it can haul to medium pads... Which does allow for some better trading opportunitys.

This is just my own opinion. And taking the above, I can then add:

T9 is a death trap. Especially for the less experianced. I would not reccomend it.

T10 is a much better trader if survivability is your goal.

It all comes down to how desperate you are for that extra small amount of credits you could make, or lose, per trip.

My recommendation... Get a python. Haul mission stuff for the empire to unlock a cutter, then go trading for sheer profit.

I agree with Viscera. I've got a T9 but it's a steaming log so I've ditched it somewhere and just do more trips in my T7s.

Then call it with its name - menu log. Some players says it is same as combat log but it is not.

Menu logging is worst method for survival in a cardboard build than high wake as your ship is a sitting duck for up to 20-25 sec (taking into account how fast you can activate and confirm it).

So, even if you do not play in open extra shield/MRP/HRP/speed are alway better than having few extra tons of cargo or few extra ly jump range.

Earning any Elite rank will get you that permit. Specifically, Explorer Elite is achieved by turning a certain amount of credits worth of data (it's on the wiki), but where it is turned in doesn't matter. I recommend turning in the data spread out to any station controlled by a faction with whom allied status will also earn you their specific permit unlock (IE: Alioth). IIRC 6 million credits worth of turn in will get you allied give or take.

so the general opinion is that it is better to be survivable and haul a little less, than be weak and haul a lot more...

I think I will carry on with my Type 10 trading - and build a Python for medium trading until Cutter is unlocked.

thanks CMDRs o7

Its always struck me as funny how its easier to make credits in elite, once you already have more credits.

The richer you are, the richer you can become...
02 Mar 2021, 11:59am
Viscera, just a hint:
If you think about how to make credits, you are not rich enough

Same goes for good (?) old 21st century Earth. Starting from scratch is always the hardest struggle.

But what looks most peculiar for me in particular: in Elite you may not even need these credits after some point. Well, maybe in amounts that you can earn.

Tbh, in all those months I've been playing, I never had a use for MRPs/HRPs in solo. Remember when I was hauling in a Paperconda with a 3D shield generator?

I don't know if NPC interdictions are harder to evade in a T9 than in a Conda, which is why I'd recommend test runs with cheap cargo that one can afford to jettison.
