Elite: Game talk

There is a significant proportion of the player base that share a similar way of thinking. That is, "today, I complete X objective. What will this take I wonder?". It's an understandable line of thought. Being goal oriented is a good strategy for success IRL. The problem with this in ED is that 'what it takes' for that task is more than one wants to deal with in a session or so. Additionally, many of the requirements are directly or indirectly redundant with future goals which is where ED gets its grindy feel.

The single best piece of advice I can give anyone playing this game is to set aside that "I must obtain a single objective no matter the cost" instinct. Instead take the time to look at what all your ED goals may be in the near future and strategize to complete them all efficiently. Minimize redoing things you've already done before dozens of times when you don't have to.

The Engineer unlocks are the clearest example of this. Need to travel 5k LY away from Sol? You could do it right now because you need it, or, you could unlock the Guardian FSD booster and make the trip a week later with half the jumps. Maybe even doing multiple goals in one day with all the time saved! This strategy works for other goals in ED too. Want to earn Combat Elite? You could do it in a Sidewinder (and I'm sure some do for the Memes), or you could do some trading and/or exploring to get some credits for a ship that can kill much easier. Yes that last one is obvious, but, the point is to make you realize you're already working to multiple goals and you might not even know it. Find out. Know everything you need to do, and make this game fun again as you do it all at your leisure in an efficient/least grindy way.

This takes effort. Who wants to do homework to play a game? Guides/youtube videos online are typically 1 subject per discussion for clickrate reasons and I'm unaware of a complete 100% "everything you NEED to do in Elite and how to do it most efficiently" guide. Probably for the best because what that entails is different for everyone.

;tldr take the time to find out everything you want to do in the game instead of doing 1 thing at a time. The game will be much more fun this way.

I agree and have found that a "parallel circuit" approach to ED goals usually works out better than a "series circuit" approach.

To whom it might concern:

Following an error by the shipping department, new authorised versions of the 2B Long Range, High-Capacity Railgun will be distributed to Empire backers from the recent CG - this time including the Feedback Cascade effect. Get yours from Payne-Scott City in the Mudhrid system.

And there was much rejoicing (yaaaaaaaaaaay).

As an added bonus: You can keep the wrong railgun as well, propably to compensate for you having to spent credits on removing the "illegal" tag

I sent FDev that exact idea (though certainly not an original one) on an issue tracker a few days back. Very gratified to see that they listened to the community. Edit: Shiny new and improved rail being transported to my base for the bargain price of 100 credits.

What would be the most spacious medium ship for trading?

XGN BlazeShadowWhat would be the most spacious medium ship for trading?

I think that'd be the Python and the Krait Mk II (if you don't install an SLF bay in the latter).

What are some great places to visit near the bubble? Already have been to all nebulas.
If you know something, please send me a message.

There would be the Generation Ships and their (at times creepy af) shiplogs as well as the INRA sites, including the crashsite of one CMDR John Jameson...

Krait mk2 have one less size 6 slot , so no way it will match Python.

Hello!

Tell me, if I study the Guardians' shield enhancer from a tech broker, then can I buy them for any ship, or i must open a blueprint for each ship? And modules of the Guardians, open immediately in all sizes, or i need to recognize them in turn and spend resources each time?
