Mildironsideo7, I'm newer to the game, I haven't really tired combat but I'm very interested in the community goals. Do I just go shoot stuff in a certain area or just go shoot stuff to participate in the CG
First you need to go to a mission board(there is a Grey colored section for community goals) and sign up for CG.
Then you need to go to a Conflict Zone(note it must be between the two factions of the CG) in the system with the current CG.
When you aproach the ships there, you will need to pick a side from communication panel.
Then just kill red ships and collect combat bonds.
After collecting some bonds you need to go to the CG Station of the faction you supported and sell the bonds in the contacts section.
You can check your current progress from missions - CG or left ship panel - transaction tab.

Just to add to Epi's wise words here, there are 2 lots of conflict zones in MUDHRID and only the one "Epsilon Fornacis Empire Group vs the Order of Mudhrid" will get you any bond money for the CG. To make matters worse, both lots are right next to each other.
Being new to conflict zones, I'd recommend low intensity and hang round and wait til an enemy is weakened before moving in for the kill. CZs are a lot tougher than your average RES site pirate.
If you get beat up, just low wake to a station (Steel Majesty is pretty close). In fact, try to always wake out before the battle is won or lost to avoid major rep swings which might scupper your chances with the opposition. You can always drop back in and start the fight again if you're feeling fit and healthy.
Mind - for this particular CG - I personally think participation in the Marlinist side is pointless. You'll need to be in the top 25 pilots and even then they're not going to achieve tier 1 at this rate. Go for the Empire and you only have to achieve top 75% to get the gud gun

If you use ammo-independent build (or just feeling that you have enough ammo for another fight), you could low-wake from one battle, fly a bit away from CZ nav marker and then relog, resetting the CZ back to start (if there's no players more in your instance, or you're playing solo). Saves your time, no need to fly back and forth.
(because just flying away from CZ and returning quickly will probably put you at where you had left)

You have to go to the conflict zones to collect combat bonds. I'm on Xbox too if you ever need help

No, if the CZ is empty of players it resets. You do not need to relog.

Strange. I was jumping in-out for several times and it was the same combat with same current scores.

If you were in open mode, it's possible you re-entered the same instance. Not sure if that can happen in solo mode.
SmalooLiving in Australia does have some downsides!
Isn't entire Australia downside?

Someone else was in the instance, keeping it open.
