G.SouzaHey cmdrs, I need help with something. For a while now I have been using gimbals and they served me well, but now I want to try and learn to use fixed weapons so I decided to train to use fixed in a IEagle, since the IEagle is weak but agile so it should help me train evasive actions while using fixed, the thing is the IEagle has only one medium hardpoint so i cant do a full PA build on it to train (since i know PAs are the best fixed weapon). What should i do? Because getting rails to train is not good in PVE since they have no ammo, getting MCs and I have two juggle with two different weapons that have different shot speeds, and lasers will make my dmg fully termal so if i get to the hull i will be struggling to kill. What should i do?

PA + rails is the current meta so you are on right path. Yes, the mechanics of the two weapons do not allow them to be used simultaneously but they give you advantage when you are about to loose the target.

Here how it works:
In close combat - you aim with the PAs at the leading indicator, but when the target is closing and out maneuver you you use the hitscan rails.
At long ranges and pass and turn scenarios - you use hitscan rails to keep the preasure, and when close to the passing you use PAs.

About the ship - I recommend you viper mk3. IEagle is great flying straight,  but viper have better lateral thrusters and maneuverability. This is very important for fixed weapons. Lastly, it flight characteristics is very similar to FDL. If you want to give it a try - 2 medium PAs and 2 small rails.

Lastly you do not need to worry about hull as large portion of damage from PAs is absolute AKA no resistances apply to them and rails do 67% thermal and 33%  kinetic.

Here some inspiring video for rails:

The thing is rails have very low ammo capacity, should I still use them in PVE? I know rails and pa is a thing in PVP but I want to try and train first in PVE, and I thought the ammo capacity wasnt very good at PVE. And yeah now that i think about it the viper 3 is also a thing, I didnt want to go for something like a krait or a fdl right from the get go because they are very tanky, i wanted something more weaker. Ty for the suggestion

Well, ammo is issue but this is the case with everything different than lasers. You may need to return often to refill or you can synthesis ammo (I do not recommend that if it is only for practice).  Or you can try assassination missions and other stuff.

And I have noticed that usually my PAs and Rails get empty in same time.

Ah, one more thing. Rails are very similar to guardian gauss cannons. Definitely worth practicing with them if you plan to fight Thargoids in future.

I did some runs on a Regular Extraction site for testing before coming here to ask and my rails always run out before my PA (using the IEagle), but thinking about it now, it must be because im more confortable hitting the rails than the PA. And I actually tried AX and even killed some interceptors (mind you I cant cold orbit for shit I just face tank Cyclops) somehow i find the hitscan weapons easy to hit, I struggle with non hitscan weapons which is why im practicing.

PAs are your main source of DMG. Rails are just for utility and finishing nimble or fast running targets

Oh, yes, there is one more small ship you u can try with just PAs - the Vulture, but it is more expensive and requires more engineering. That's why I suggested viper.

Yeah i know about the vulture, but I wanted something paperthin so I trained evasion at the same time, but Ty for the help, and the viper will do it very well.

You are welcome! Have fun!

While thinking about Viper ...
probably the best candidate for the 2 double engineered modules usage.

Synthya WylderI am SO never going on an expedition again!

Nooooo!

Expeds are the best! Been on three now with IDA and D2EA... all have been so much fun! And... they teach you so much and progress you through the game tremendously. Epi gave me a good start on Guardian sites, then I learnt from IDA that if you bring friends with SLF they can charge the pylons for you as you shoot sentinels and have a rip roaring time jumping (or failing to) onto the top of a Krait Phantom with your SRV! Then with D2EA we went to Colonia and unlocked Engineers, visited the World of Death and even an 11g planet... where I landed upside down!

Whilst there can be FOMO about CGs, I love expeds and cannot wait for my next one.

A shame I didn't go on the ones you mentioned. My impression would surely be different.

So, how long did those 3 take & how did you return?

Plainly, you wouldn't be enjoying the 1 I'm on now. Nothing nearly so interesting or useful & certainly not worth being essentially out of commission for the rest of the game for 3 months, & that's just to the last arrival waypoint. No telling when (or even if) the return will be.

My point of view remains unchanged.

Synthya, are you sure you are not on a slave carrier?

More like a prison barge...

I was actually thinking of putting them both on an Imperial Eagle for combat loadout. I was curious, is there was a way to simulate or visualize the stats the double engineered modules on EDSY or Corliolis?

What do people do on these expeditions? Jumping here and there on the carrier and flying around, scanning planets, when it stops? Mining tritium to keep the jumpmachine running? Guess it's pretty scarce choice of activities so far away.

It all depends on the expedition & who owns the carrier.

But being tied to the carrier for days (weeks?)... And doing this willingly? One of the mysteries of space that I'll never understand. :p
