So for the HRPs the debate is higher Thermal resistance bringing all close to middle, vs. higher total resistances and absolute armour with a lower thermal resistance.

As I said from my experience, it is better to have balanced resistances than specialized one. Or you simply expect enemies to stop firing their thermal weapons when shields drop?

I'm wondering if it would be better to optimize the hull for thermal resistance only. Because as long as the shield is up, hull damage occurs only from phasing sequence weapons, and those are mostly thermal. Kinetic phasing sequence damage can only come from engineered PAs which I've never seen on NPCs.

Phasing damage is absolute which is a point in favour of stacking for absolute.

As for balanced vs 'specialized'. 1) It's not specialized, it's maximized, and 2) I can't debate your experience with NPC's, nor am I saying you're right or wrong, just clarifying the schools of thought.

If there is a list of known NPC ship builds and their probability distribution you could do some math to figure out exactly the probabilities involved and declare which is build type is truly best. I am not aware of any such list.

My personal build philosophy is HRPs all HD/DP because absolute is a good stat to have for both PVP and PVE. It also makes the Engineering simple and transferable, and the total resistances maximizes your return if all other things are equal. I admit, they are not which is why I spec Thermal Shields. If your opponent gets through those they probably aren't focused on laser weapons. If they are, it's a good clue to cheese it. Good thing lasers aren't know for their burst dps...

No, I'm pretty sure they're supposed to take a cut of Bonds and commodity sales as well.

Unfortunately not. They take their percentage cut on all your income whether they are used or not. They will also take a slice of your rank progress. So just be aware if you are working towards Elite combat.

I'm mostly a new player and I've been mining, I'm sort of getting better but each time I mine I get more but sell for less and less.
Or at least it feels like that, which I guess is OK, except I thought I was doing it right.

I have a double hotspot, I know how the scanner works and what stones to mine, (sort of)
I filled my ship or at least I did so until I ran out of limpets, which is fine.
Now I looked on the "Miner's Tool" for a place to sell, I picked one with a larger request size and a good price.
OK, it wasn't really a good price because good is 400k and I was hoping for 250k but what I got when I sold was like 114k.

So after all that how do I get a price closer to the listed price for the ore, it can be lower I mean it took me about 10 minutes to get here so I'd be very happy to get something like 90% of the listed price not like 50%.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Any help greatly appreciated.

On the shield and armour topic the actual question is what is the optimisation objective. Maximising overall MJ is one approach. But for it to be the best, all three damage types need to occur at the exact distribution as what this sum optimisation happens to give.

Neither do I have stats on NPC weapon usage. I believe though, or at least cannot remember, a NPC using explosive weapons while my shield is up. On the other hand they come in heavily once they are down.

So personally, I try to more or less level force and thermal protection for shields and not pay much attention to blast. For armour I'll go for all three equal.

The price is function of demand and what you have. I suggest you to look for stations where demand is at least x10 what you carry in your cargo. Example: If demand is 500t and you have 50t you will most likely get close to the max price , but if in the same scenario demand is 500t and you have 500t you will get very low price for the commodities.

Note: this do not apply for Fleet Careers. The price there is flat. You get what you see. (But the information on 3rd party tools can be outdated)

The key here is to pay attention to demand. IIRC it should be ten times of what you have in your cargo. At lower demands expect price drops.

(A forum function which indicates that someone else is responding to a post would be quite handy.)

A few months ago, commodity selling was corrected such that as goods get sold to the station its demand goes down.  As demand goes down, so does the price they are willing to pay for the goods.  Also, demands for mining seem to have been nerfed and payouts reduced.  Because of these reasons, the third party data submission tool EDMC is not being used nearly as often as it used to because if you find a good spot to sell it gets flooded with Fleet Carriers selling their bulk stores (so it is best to keep it secret by not reporting).  For all these reasons the data supplied to the Miner's tool by EDMC is nowhere near as reliable as it used to be.  You need to look for sell locations with huge Demands (like 8k or more) that have been reported within the last hour otherwise the data is probably no good.

Edit:  I almost forgot:  If your ship hold contains more than 25% of the stations demand the price they offer you is immediately penalized.  Even if the price shown on MT was updated 10 seconds ago you will see much lower because you have too much to sell.

The Meta has changed.  If you are laser mining you want to go for Platinum instead of Painite or Void Opals.  Platinum pricing is seems to be more stable than the others even though it is priced slightly cheaper.

I can verify this. The last time I mined (about a month ago), I mined Platinum and was able to get stable and reasonably good prices.

And for core mining Monazite and Musgravite looks better than LTD and void opals.

And it is better since this BS called "the egg" is back.
