Synthya WylderIt all depends on the expedition & who owns the carrier.

I thought, in all my inexperience on such things, it would have been lots more fun, interesting & useful for me.

I made many mistakes, including bringing along 5 ships & a few extra modules. I also brought along my alt, so, no chance to enjoy that account either.

I can't say that there have been no benefits at all, just not enough to make the ordeal worthwhile so far. We both gave up & missed out on so much meanwhile, & actually, there's nothing either of us couldn't have done by ourselves.

As they say, hindsight is 20/20.

I'm looking fwd to the Alpha release of Odyssey. I hope that's a viable alternative meanwhile.

Reasonable. You don't need a team to do jumping-scooping-scanning, and any other person involved will probably slow everyone eventually. I guess that one must have a special state of mind to enjoy this activity (activity?).

Hell of an evening
Finished a massacre-stack in an hour and then spent the next four hours trying to fly the 11.5Ly to three systems to cash in missions. Constant server or internet hangs. Krait / adder errors / crash to black. I had to land at one starport four times before it registered. Never had a session like it. I’d class it as constant unwanted combat logging if I’d been in combat

I enjoy it & on both accounts. I don't enjoy there being precious little else to do & the very occasional mining is a sweet welcome break.

But, the worst thing about it is, the feeling of being trapped... having to hope that eventually, 1 or the other carrier will be returning somewhere close enough to home that it doesn't cost me an arm & a leg to transport the rest of my ships & modules back.

Perhaps I can find a carrier to transport everything to, hitch a ride back & then, make sure that I can coordinate my schedule if & when that carrier is anywhere reasonably close to home.

Ofc, the whole issue would be solved if I were to decide to get my own carrier... & frankly, I sincerely doubt that'll ever happen. Owning a carrier is, IMO, letting the game play me. I'd be obligated to log in & maintain it & then, it would be a chore. Not what I signed up for.

Yup. Perhaps, this line explains well what I think (and what I don't want to experience) about riding someone else's carrier that far away.

Not what I signed up for.

Anyway, I'm mostly a combat pilot. Or pretending to be one.

I have a question yall. What do you recommend to play music, from say a Spotify Playlist, in the ship while making the long hauls? Also, why is there not a cargo hauler union or anything like that on this game?

Synthya WylderI am SO never going on an expedition again!

Nooooo!

Expeds are the best! Been on three now with IDA and D2EA... all have been so much fun! And... they teach you so much and progress you through the game tremendously. Epi gave me a good start on Guardian sites, then I learnt from IDA that if you bring friends with SLF they can charge the pylons for you as you shoot sentinels and have a rip roaring time jumping (or failing to) onto the top of a Krait Phantom with your SRV! Then with D2EA we went to Colonia and unlocked Engineers, visited the World of Death and even an 11g planet... where I landed upside down!

Whilst there can be FOMO about CGs, I love expeds and cannot wait for my next one.

A shame I didn't go on the ones you mentioned. My impression would surely be different.

So, how long did those 3 take & how did you return?

Plainly, you wouldn't be enjoying the 1 I'm on now. Nothing nearly so interesting or useful & certainly not worth being essentially out of commission for the rest of the game for 3 months, & that's just to the last arrival waypoint. No telling when (or even if) the return will be.

My point of view remains unchanged.

In search of Gwydion

The IDA expeds were I think a couple of days each. The first to Crystal Shard sites for mat gathering and engineer unlocking tutorials. The second was to Guardian sites to unlock Guardian modules and fighters. Both trips used IDA FC's to move around and support. Organized chaos at the G sites with SRVs everywhere and SLF blasting Sentinels and charging pylons!

The D2EA Colonia exped was a long weekend with stops on the way out and back. We even had a resident stowaway ganker! I unlocked the four Colonia engineers and spent time being a tourist. It was actually like being on a crazy fun school coach tour!

I'd highly recommend IDA and D2EA expeds, esp to CMDRs who want to learn the game in a fun way and meet new CMDRs.

I hope your trip gets better... just wind down the window and stick your head out... always makes things feel better!

Now this sounds bad. I am sorry that it took whole 3 nights to visit project dynasty sites and The Zurara.

You call this an expeditions?  Crystalline shards 1500ly and guardian sites roughly at 1000ly. Those are like 30-60 min jumping.

Synthya is 24k ly away and I think this expedition of the prison barge  lasts more than a month now  For example: I've made Bubble - Sag A* - Semotus Beacon & Salomé's Reach - Colonia - Bubble  for a week   in Anaconda with my own pace. That's roughly 130k ly round trip.
this was soooo boring trip

Being weeks in the black requires a set of mind. It is not for everyone. If you never experienced it start with small steps - 3k , 5k , 10k,  Colonia. That will give you a rough idea would you like it.

I like the creative stations on the Inara there are quite a few stations and i find the commercials funny. Other then that I like some epic new age like ES Posthumuas, audio machine, and other like it. I have Sirius XM and don't know other stations on other music apps. I too like to play music during those hauling missions....

good luck fellow commander

My comment was meant as a mildly suggestive joke, not a complaint. Sorry that it came across the wrong way.

For the record: Epi is not a guy who kidnaps girls and keeps them as slaves on his carrier. If he promises you a three day trip, expect to be back home in three days, because he keeps his word.

Depends on your definition of an expedition. The Merriam Webster dictionary says:

ex·pe·di·tion | \ ˌek-spə-ˈdi-shən \
Definition of expedition
1a: a journey or excursion undertaken for a specific purpose
b: the group of persons making such a journey
2: efficient promptness : SPEED
3: a sending or setting forth

That is how I'm using the word. An expedition does not necessarily mean a long journey.
