Elite: Game talk

Bin JuiceHi All,

I'm pretty new to the game and I must admit it's a very addictive game.
I've watched lots of videos on Youtube about mining and I've got core mining pretty much down-packed now.

I have however noticed that Void Opals are nowhere near the price being sold for in the videos.
I think the most I've seen per tonne is 400k. Has there been an update that changed this recently?

Musgravite now seems to be the mineral of choice. I sold 50t yesterday for 800k per tonne.

Yes, you are correct. There was update to LTD, VO and Painite prices and various nerfs to yields from hotspot overlaps. For laser mining currently the best profit/hour is Platinum and for core mining Musgravite/Monezite.

Btw, is mining really that much more profitable than trading? Assuming both activities done by someone who isn't a professional in both of them, but knows what and how to do.
Did something like 100 or so Mcr/hr on makeshift-outfitted Cobra during Selene Jean "go and chew on 500t of rocks" quest.

Can you do 120-200m/h with trading?

Is this a rhetorical question? :p
Of course if there will be something like 80+k/ton (mwuahahaha) trading route that I can repeat 3 times an hour... :p

And this is already NOT a "makeshift-outfitted ship, bought in Dromi".

p.s. Maybe I don't know something vital about trading - that's the point. Simple "buy for less, sell for more" scheme may be not enough. But when I did mining, it was the most simplest stuff.

With the big ship and solid relatively short route, you don't need that high profit (something around 40k per unit is good enough). 100+ millions per hour in trading is very achievable (even more). But also depends on the routes available, sometimes it's so-so, sometimes it's very easy to get such profits.

Hi All,

I have been out in Colonia a few space weeks, and really enjoying it.
Seen some awesome sights, amazing nebula, and managed not to get sucked into to Sagittarius A* - has all helped lots with exploration ranking.
I am hoping the Colonia region might expand a little bit further in the future, perhaps with Odyssey. :-)

Switched Galactica’s modules, (Conda), to laser mining briefly to gain an invite to an engineer back home with success.

Not tried any core mining just yet. Thinking of refitting Alien, (T10 Defender), when eventually jump back to the Bubble for core mining. Is this a good idea?
I enjoy collecting the different ships so if there are any views on CMDRs favourite ships for this purpose please say.

Planning to leave Galactica (exploration build) out in Colonia with some other ships for future visits and jump back in Discovery (Asp Ex) once I have unlocked another engineer in Colonia.

In my experience, I have collected on missions and trade 70 million credits in 500 hours of play and on mining in 10 hours collected 1 billion credits. And this is after the era of peynite and opals of the void.
That was when I decided I really want to buy an anaconda.
So yes - mining is the only humane way to earn credits now.

Not true. Most profitable thing now for money making is combat. In meta systems you can do 200 ml per hour easily.

Weeeell, combat is not necessarily humane

Yup. I'm thinking this way now:

"Okay, I've mined around 100mcr/h on Cobra, which I've purchased in noobie-zone, outfitted with cheap stuff that seemed relative to mining, in the first bunch of hotspots that I came across, after watching 15 minutes of tutorials. The only sophisticated part was selling what I found for a highest price possible, had to jump around a bit. I hadn't any goal to earn as much as I can, just didn't want to waste my time around cheap resources. So mining was done in pretty half-arsed way.

So why the heck I need to build a specific expensive ship and crawl the spreadsheets to at least come close to this level by trading? I may not like mining as an constant activity, but if I need some credits, maybe biting the bullet for this last time can be a logical answer."

A may be a "somewhat like a combat pilot", but bountyhunting is a thing that I certainly don't want to do. Mining may be uncomfortable, but BH is a clear no.

Friend is having a message regarding a mission come up in his comms channel about a planet - HH-U b3-0

CANNOT find it. Not even using the co-ordinates. Have searched this site for it and A7 the planet in it, but NOTHING. Could someone please tell me if this mission is still going, or if the planet has 'gone'? Driving us potty.

Please feel free to DM.

Thanks all!

How busy is it out there with regard to stations and populated systems? Would like to get a faction started at some point, but they have to be in populated systems so I want to find one which doesn't already have other factions

I'm not going to argue, but I'm not sure it's easier to assemble a combat fit and swarm enemies' skulls than it is to look for cores. But that's as far as I'm concerned. I'm not a big fan of combat.

Well, combat is what I do most of the time. But I choose my targets by allegiance/faction type and go CZs. There's not much money there. I can go bountyhunting only if some rare and maybe impossible requirements are met.

I believe it is a much newer region which started growing after the Jacques Starport (has an interesting hyperspace drive attached to it) became marooned here. Colonia is not so busy compared to the Bubble and I am sure there is scope for more factions in the region.
