I'm nearly sure you can fit only ONE fuel tank per ship as for the heat sinks, you have 4 UTILITY MOUNTS on the Type 8.

You can install auxiliary fuel tanks in optional internal slots along with the standard one in Core Internals

I stand corrected, in any case it goes against what I would do to increase performances of my ships, a 6A FUEL SCOOP and 5C FUEL TANK are more than enough to cover ever possibility, the worst I've seen was 3 non-refuelable stars in a row. No issue.

Not "every" possibility. I want to see how fast and far a Type-8 will go if it's full of fuel tanks. The SCO is great but it guzzles fuel very very quickly. One of the AX CZ's this week is almost 400,000ls out and using SCO only gets me less than a quarter of that distance before I get warnings about fuel levels.
I won't be doing this to a Type-8 intending to keep it that way. Just as an experiment and for the laugh really.

I've been Frontier'd, haven't I ?

IIRC the log uplinks show up only when you’re quite close (like 1.5 km or so). Try flying around the megaship while looking at your contacts list. (yeah, another example of silly game mechanics)

You might not see it well, but I'm right in the middle of the cropper. I could go at either end and there was still no uplink in the contacts panel.

SCO is much like Afterburner as opposed to Supercruise, I use it to go around a star faster or shorten the distance from a star to a station. for increased performances I'd rather use engineering and A Class thrusters.

Increasing weight will reduce your performances, including boost speed and jump range.

Irrelevant.

I was today's years old when I found out that your Fleet Carrier is not your "last docked station" when you are destroyed but the last non-FC station you docked... Had to to take 9 jumps back to base. (Also, gankers around Raijin are a curse)

As things go, Raijin appears to be quite stubborn. It's not even down to 4 hearts yet... though I guess it might go slightly faster once the remaining invasions clear out in a short while.

Perhaps. I was going to make a mention that some suspicions of Frontier fiddling with the Titan HP to make them last through the weekend were afoot, but if you saw that post then you're aware of them.

But I'd guess that it wouldn't make the week even if they left it to go at this current pace.

MarcOmegaWhile you might find something that you can run under Linux using WINE, since ED Odyssey is a Windows game, most of the third party tools are going to be Windows based. I usually run my tools on the same computer I use for ED, but ported out to a separate display.

This makes it sound like I won't be successful running Elite on a Linux system. Is that true?

I'm growing weary of Windows and have long used Linux for many things other than gaming. Considering how much I enjoy and play Elite Dangerous, I would hate to convert my gaming system to Linux only to find out I can't run Elite. (Not to mention VR compatibility.)

I have successfully installed 3 copies of E:D on Linux Mint Cinnamon (Frontier, Steam, Epic), although I haven't actually done anything with them until I build a new machine. If you get stuck, I can try and find my instruction notes.

What are you people on about?

sudo aptitude install steam

start Steam, log in bla ablaa, download the game, settings - use Proton (or what ever the exact wording was), play.
There is no magic to it. It's literally that simple to play Elite Dangerous or any other Steam game on Linux.

That's good to know. Imagine you are 5000LY out in the black and you feck up and have to relog from a station. Man that would annoying.

It runs fine on Linux. For VR I use a Quest 2 over ALVR.

For my HOTAS I had to do something in regedit though because Steam tried to map my flight stick and throttle to an Xbox controller... but besides that little hiccup it works well. (Instructions for doing that are on protondb for Elite Dangerous.)

The only 3rd party thing I use is EDDiscovery, and I use the portable release and just run it in my ED proton instance:

$ protontricks-launch --appid 359320 EDDiscovery.exe

But anybody could just as easily add it in Steam as a "non-steam game" and launch it that way, I don't see why it wouldn't work?

I think the regedit stuff for HOTAS is the most complicated part, but besides that it all just works.

I installed EDMarketConnector. Works fine but starts to eat up resources when you FSS bodies in a system.

That's how it sounds to me too now, after my initial question. It'll be a while before I feel the need to try, but I appreciate you and others here sharing your advice and experience.

Noted. Thank you. I'll keep this in mind, if I decide to go that route.

So, it takes about 24+- neutron star jumps for FSD to become unstable (<80)? I did not expect it to start crashing so fast.
