Ryan MurdocI once thought so as well and never wanted to go past a Python. But once you experienced the raw power of a fully engineered Corvette you don't want anything else for PvE combat.

How much did Feds pay you? :p

I've been smuggling Slaves for them to an Anarchy System and killed the Pirates there as well back in the days. All in all quite the rewarding business arrangement until I was promoted to Rear Admiral, got me the Corvette and abandoned my support for them since. I've been a Mercenary for them and they were only a means to make Credits for me, so not much tears were shed on either side.

The only ships I can do without in this game are all the Empire ones, specially the Cutter.

Trident SLF and in matter of fact all guardian SLFs are a joke. They look good but that's all.

You are missing big time without a Cutter. It is probably the most OP ship. Not very good for offense but with the speed, raw MJs and cargo potential it is best choice for everything else.

Also Cutter is the meta big ship for PvP.

Yes, Because of speed and MJ.

They're heavier on the Shield and less on the Hull, but I have to admit that even my Elite Pilot is slamming into my ship more often since I started using the Trident. Think I'll go back to the Taipan eventually.

And not really missing out by not having the Cutter unless I'd do Trading which happens rarely. Anaconda works for that for me.

Probably so but not relevant for me since I don't do PvP and never will, I'm more into building Empires with other people. Everyone their own as it should be.

Well, you can do trading even with a Mamba, but that is not the point. Cutter is the Meta also for trading and laser mining.

He's not wrong. Like it or not, it has the best maneuverability of the Top 3 large ships, combined with it's 2 Huge hardpoints give it the best sustained PVE dps you can get (yes, the Anaconda can theoretically have slightly higher dps but is too slow and ungainly to use it as effectively). To put things into perspective: me and 3 other Corvettes achieved top 10% from zero after one turn-in 1.5 days late into the CG. It's worth the effort and don't let anyone steer you otherwise.

The Cutter on the other hand has great top speed, cargohold and survivability, particularly in PVP. You will have a difficult time finding a better transport or laser miner, especially in Open.

To say these are overrated is likely based on the thwarted expectation that bigger = better. The thought process of "muh, I gots da 'Conda this game is over" lasts until the first encounter with a player FDL. So, while the large ships are all worth it for various reasons, they are definitely not 'the best' at everything just because they're biggest.

As for obtaining the ranks without supporting the Superpower(s) you don't want to: I suggest waiting until their stations get attacked and rescue the civilians. This way you get SP credit for doing humanitarian work. It's also the fastest way to 'grind it out' so win-win assuming you can be patient enough to wait until the next disaster.

Good for all the Traders and Miners then, what I do BGS wise is covered by flying either a Python or Corvette on a daily basis. And Fleet Carrier as of late as it comes in handy when you need to go to places that lack big Space Stations and so forth.

So, my very first post in here was complaining about getting ganked, and I wish to retract that complaint. The guy who did it is still a jerk, but what I learned from it has been useful. I am still warry of playing in open, but it has for sure upped my awareness of my surroundings by a lot.

Meh, I was just joking with this "federal propaganda" theme :p
Of course some day one will find a ship that'll perfectly match the respective play style, as I've (luckily) found one for me almost instantly. Again, biggest aren't always the best, and I'm just sticking to this phrase.

p.s. Maybe it's the "completionist pattern", common for many players, I don't know exactly.

Right on Commander!

Also, Open is fine but you will face danger In high value systems.

WarCat72On a different note... is there somewhere in game lore that explains what happened to Anchorage Alaska. I lived there for 3 years and where it and a few of the biggest towns should be are dark at night. Just wondered what happened.

Well there was a nuclear war or two.

And I also think we had our own "skynet" event which is why AI is banned.

There’s also the massive effect of climate warming and sea level rise. If you look during sunlit hours you’ll notice coasts of india, america and europe massively changed. Northern cities of England are entirely absent, replaced by eastern lakes and a large city network apparent in the mountains of Wales and Scotland

Yeah, but a good chunk of Anchorage is above that sea level rise line. Most likely it and Fairbanks were hit by nuclear strikes as they both have major Airforce bases as of right now. It was amusing to the the very small village that my mother in law grew up at is now a major city.
