Quit out completely and try again ?

WarCat72Well, aircraft cockpits in anything larger than a single seater have the Pilot on the left and the co-Pilot on the right. Maybe they were using that as a basis.

I'd assume that. Helicopters often have it reversed, something to do with co-pilots fiddling with your stick while flying?
We need to persuade FD to put the scarab driver on the correct side, hanging over the right hand wheel, the shift in center of gravity shouldn't change my (in)ability to drive it round corners anyway.

^^^Helicopter pilot's is on the right because the rotor brake lever is located above his head and operated with his left hand while holding the cyclic stick with his normal, right hand. This lever is released prior to the blades turning and to slow them after flight for shutting down. It is possible for the co-pilot on the left to lean over and apply the brake but not comfortable.

It’s also odd that the fdl hologram in the shield area is far too big for the space. Seems to dwarf the cutter, conda or corvette

Probably some... another HUD issues that they can't fix that far.

In each ship the pilot seat is a different distance away from the canopy and dashboard so some displays seem larger or smaller. And they could still be the wrong size even with that.

Edit: Oh I see what you mean now. Yeah it is very inconsistent.

I feel that most of the HUD issues brought up stop bothering you if you see the game in VR at least once. All these issue seem to make sense then because you now have the complete picture. Granted there are numerous things I still don't like about the HUD. Why you can't configure the elements to your own preferences is beyond me. The ability to change the Colour and which panels are where and show what seem to me key QOL options glaringly absent from a game that forces you to stare at this almost the entire time. And orange? WTF of all the colours you could choose, orange.
Really?

Nah, I would have preferred the 3 forward panels (TL, TR, B) be multi-function displays, and the HUD actually show much more data akin to what current real world fighter cockpits show. As it stands, you have to look away for almost all of the info you need when flying and fighting. Even your ammo data is way off to the outside edge. You know what's really useful for pilots? A vector indicator. Nah, look for dust to figure out how you're flying.

The radar and navigation indicator bubbles I'd keep as nods to the original game, but everything else looks way to mid 20th century for my tastes.

The mamba suffers from it as well due to it being a copy / paste job from the fdl. But yeah, you can squint to scoop cargo but the landing pads and holos are way too big to account for distance from the hud. Get the impression a different team worked on the graphx for these ships.
damn linking to images in this forum!

Yeah, I've meant some kind of setting about "make HUD elements bigger/smaller". Could be possibly useful, bc people play E:D on different screens, from 13'' laptops to 100'' TVs, with different resolutions. As for me personally, I play on 27'' 1920x1080 with common "home/work PC table setup", and while actual pixel size (being bigger comparable to other screens of same resolution) isn't a problem in general, HUD elements are... a bit uncomfortably bulky.

What regularly irritates me is the standard yellow color of things projected on the HUD. Against the background of anything bright like suns, I simply can't see it. I guess I have to explore changing the colors of things in the cockpit.

Changing ya HUD is great, but its not without its issues. Having said that, wouldn't want to go back to default.

You can do it with some 'messy hack' thing that also would mess up pilot portraits etc. So it's... controversial.

True, but here is a list of HUD settings that don't or very lightly interfere with profile and Station Personel images.

And here's a tool that lets you test settings before you apply them.

Even better is the EDHM mod that allows the changing of individual elements (if you want white shields AND red enemy scanner markers) which the arkku falls down on. It is Frontier ‘okayed’ and comes in

A ui installer version
I’ve been using it since November and it’s pretty tweakable - though getting mission boards and outfitting looking good is still a challenge.
