Looking forward to all these new money fleet carriers being relegated to the decommissioning line in about four weeks.

Haha, you may be right. Now, I might be able to afford 2 FCs in theory. I should be able to afford just one for a very long time - but I still am not sure I will buy it. Going to research it some more and reassess after EDO is out.

The FC is definitely a convenience worth the expense imo. It changes the game in several ways. Portable personal cargo storage is the most useful benefit, but having your own mobile base of operations can make many things a LOT easier. Doing BGS work in systems with only orbitals or planet bases? Ta da, large pad right next to where you need to be to rearm, repair etc. CG requiring beaucoup rare commodities? Stock up on Lavian brandy and make 700 tonne trips instead of 48 tonne ones. Want to explore in open 100% of the time without worrying you'll get popped on returning to the Bubble with a year of exploration data? Turn in at the FC outside the Bubble someplace safe(r), or swap your featherweight FSD for a PVP ship to do your data turn ins within populated space. Or, forgo needing to fly for months on end and have a constant rest/repair/resupply station nearby wherever you are on your trip.

The cons include:
It's expensive. If you are not playing very often it isn't worth the upkeep, and tritium fuel is nothing but aggravating wherever you are.
It can also become a crutch (as Ep puts it: "a ball and chain") that you don't need to take with you everywhere you go but you quickly find yourself taking it anyways (This last CG is a perfect example. No reason to fill the CG systems with FC's at all, yet ofc there they were).
It's slow. 15 minute jump wait + 5 min CD makes it slower (and extremely expensive) to travel often/far.

Thank you for a nice summary, Burstar. You and Epi have been particularly helpful with your knowledge of Fleet Carriers.

Unless it can lend fire support, it's a glorified parking lot. No thanks.

For me, a fleet carrier is something you jump once or twice a day. It's a way to quickly deploy your fleet to do what you need to do that day, then you jump it back home when you're done. This only really applies to when you're going more than 100 light years and you need to do many types of gameplay. My ships all have such long jump distances that going less than 100 LY isn't really noticeable.

So what is this about shit tons of money being made randomly in a short amount of time?

Go to the community goals page and look at the payouts from the last CG.

Help~~~~!

Just discovered that I have Sirius and Founders World permits, what can I use them for?
04 May 2021, 2:02pm
To be able to jump into Sirius and Shinrarta Dezhra systems.

Well said and agreed, specially to the BGS part. They come very in handy and you finally have a incentive to play again instead of just sitting on stacks of money without any outlook what to do with all the stuff.

Yeah I forgot one more important benefit: In system micro-jumps. CG station 3 gazillion ls away from jump in? NP. Fleet carrier goes there (in 15 minutes so plan ahead)

So no more hour-long supercruises to Hutton Orbital?

Exactly. Only problem is, if you have purchased a FC, you are ineligible for the free Anaconda.
04 May 2021, 3:16pm
Why do you need that free Anaconda if you can afford a carrier?
