EpisparhI never used additional module for fuel. I do fly some ships without fuel scoop in the bubble but then I filter by populated system and apply filter to route plotting. You need to be extra careful when jumping to a system because if there is no refueling station ... well, I have a trump card "Call UNX Conqueror".

For some reason I thought I might have to pass through regions between the Bubble and Colonia where there were only brown dwarfs in range. Well, it turned out these regions didn't exist, at least not on that route. I felt clever adding fuel tanks, until I learned that the galmap plots routes always on the basis of maximum unladen weight, i.e. with empty cargo but maximum fuel. If I remember correctly, I had all D-rated core internals except for an A-rated FSD, and my optional internals were a DSS, an A-rated fuel scoop, and fuel tanks, fuel tanks, fuel tanks, nothing else. Total fuel capacity: 14t. Jump range: 17ly. Without the extra tanks it would have been 23ly.

Doss11Surface mining goes faster. More so if you go to HIP 36601 and harvest crystalline shards.

Apparently that’s too much distance for my DBX, which is troubling because that’s my dedicated explorer.

Can always catch a FC going to the CS. One went out today, but I think you missed it.

If that is the system I am thinking of you need a jump range of 35-40ly. I forget exactly how much but it is somewhere in that range. Or at least that's what I needed given my star filtering.

So I’ve been busy grinding out some engineering on the Dirty Work. Here’s where I’m at so far (don’t worry about the stuff I mention in the description; it’s there in the game, INARA just doesn’t wanna show it). Pretty nifty, if I do say so myself. Now, I’m pretty sure this is overkill for the solo PvE stuff I do…but at this point, I’m just cackling like a madman as I knock pirate after pirate outta the sky.

Seriously. Apparently all you need to do in order to see pirate shields melt is strap three large burst lasers onto a (modded) Krait Mk II. Just too damn fun! (Apparently, going off the stats given by coriolis.io, this setup will knock out shields in six seconds, and will absolutely chew the armor up in two. Can you tell that I am excited for the end result once I fully get everything going? Hera and Broo will be on goddamn speed dial, just you wait!)

But I’m also open to being roasted like an expensive steak dinner constructive criticism and tips on how to make this baby even more of a powerhouse. So, what am I doing right, what’s gone horribly wrong, how can I salvage/enhance this? Keep in mind that, again, I don’t wanna engage in PvP (I’m a PvE bounty hunter, not a ganker!), so any advice geared towards that will be ignored.

TL;DR: I’ve started engineering my ship. I’m in need of advice on how to best proceed from here. Send help.

Shields are a bit weak on that build. Even my Courier has more than that.

In PvE a shield tank is really all you need. And military grade composite bulkheads for those few occasions where you fight NPCs with phasing sequence lasers, e.g. SpecOps in CZs or threat level 6 signal sources. If it takes a long time to wear down your shields, you'll have plenty of time to wake out before they drop. Then you can get rid of all those heavy hull and module reinforcements that slow you down. I've built my PvE Mamba as a shield tank and never had to rebuy it.

Weapon choice is down to personal preference. Kinetic weapons penetrate hulls faster, but I like lasers because they never run out of ammo.

Sometimes reinventing ,, is a thing. I’ve been playing ED for almost 1400 hours, presumably made all the mistakes, but also enjoyed everything

0. exchange 3 x lasers size 3 for 3 x MCs size 3 and 2 x MCs size 2 for 2 x lasers size 2
1. put there beams instead of bursts if power enough
1. engineer lasers with long-range and overcharged
2. engineer multi-cannons with overchargerd / corrosive shell / incendiary rounds
3. put thermal resistant / supercapacitor shield booster instead of point defence or instead of KWS because there might be insufficient power for KWS and is not really worth it
4. put 6c bi-weave reinforced / fast charge shields instead of standard shields
5. put some hull reinforcements engineered with heavy duty and guardian shield reinforcements in free optional slots instead of scoop and fuel tank
6. engineer 7a power plant with armoured / thermal spread mods
7. engineer thrusters further, add drag drives mod
8. engineer FSD with increased range / mass manager
9. exchange life support for 4d and lightweight it
10. engineer power distributor with charge enhanced / super conduits
11. engineer armour with heavy duty / deep plate

I think it's best to start with upgrading Power Plant and fixing your hardpoints setup.

You can have even x10 times more hours in game and still be clueless how things works. You certainly can experiment of course and reach the same knowledge other people combined reached out for years but looking at some builds and questions I have strong doubt that people can handle a basic research.

"Reading is never a substitute for experience" do not mean that skipping the reading will be better process

If you engineer a Krait for a job that a FDL does better, you're reinventing the wheel, whether you use a guide or not.

For PvE Krait is better because better PD and PP

So which of those five builds on that site is the best for PvE?
