On console, there a way to make some kind of message thingy for carriers? Like a biography and/or descriptive text on what it's purpose

OK, after several days of interdictions I think I've figured out the mechanics. It seems that the blue and red bars do not represent the time spent on target but the change in distance between the target and the interdictor. If the distance increases beyond a certain threshold, the interdiction tether breaks and the target gets away. Since you can't change your throttle during the interdiction, how do you decrease distance to the target? By leading it! I've noticed that I gain the upper hand whenever I point the circle not exactly at the target but slightly ahead of it. So it's important to observe not just the location of the target but also its direction, by watching either the triangles around it or the orientation of the ship's hologram on the dashboard.

Btw, if you notice that someone is approaching you and trying to align their ship to interdict you, there is a foolproof way to prevent it: press G to select the opponent's ship, then turn your own ship until you see the other ship's hologram on your dashboard pointing in the opposite direction. Next, when you see the other ship turn, mimic its moves. Keep in mind that your turn rate in supercruise is best at 50% throttle, not 75% (blue zone). You can do this until the other pilot gives up or is so far behind you that they'll be unable to catch up after turning. At that point you can also throttle down to zero, as doing so will make you disappear from your opponent's scanner. But don't drop out of SC, because that will leave a very visible low wake behind that pinpoints your location. Instead, remain in SC at zero throttle, plot a course to another system, charge the FSD, align your ship, and then throttle up. This way the attacker cannot follow you, even if they have a wake scanner on their ship.

Of course this method will fail if there's more than one ship trying to interdict you, since you can only watch one ship at a time. But against a single attacker it's very reliable.

Interesting. What is your best take on escaping an interdiction going on those metrics?

Kirky007What is your best take on escaping an interdiction going on those metrics?

I still haven't managed to escape player interdictions. Most gankers don't interdict Couriers in the first place, so there were few opportunities to practice this.

One thing I can say is that there appears to be no time limit. Two days ago I interdicted a very experienced player who got away the first three times, and then we had the longest interdiction I've seen in the game so far. The log files unfortunately don't record interdiction start and end times, but it felt very long, maybe an entire minute. That was the one where I figured out I had to lead the target rather than just aim at it.

A few people were very p***ed about what I was doing, and one ganker told me he would block me. Haven't seen him around since. But the learning experience was totally worth it. You don't get this from interdicting NPCs, and probably not from friends either, because people try harder when they are angry.

Honestly, I do not see reason to even attempt evading interdiction.
I had four Cutter's cargo delivered yesterday in the CG system. One guy tried to pirate me with zero success. I have submitted 6 times, he even succeeded to reboot my FSD twice, but then Chronus is quite well protected and hatch breakers are just 300m/s fast. After I finished the delivery I got my Lunge and returned to play with him. Few "lols" and then either he logged out or I was blocked.

Interdicted one courier once but then she ran again like a chimken

Yes. The mechanic is so skewed against the defender that all you do resisting a pvp interdiction is risk burning out the FSD and extending the cooldown timer. Regardless of your ship specs. Once interdicted it's going to pull you out of SC barring some glitch/bug/cheat/Combat Log so you may as well just prepare for it as best you can.

FWIW as a defender you CAN throttle to 50% which will not affect your speed so much as optimize your manoeuvrability for all the good it does.

Try interdicting Dangerous.com. He won't submit unless he wants to. That's what I want to learn.

BurstarFWIW as a defender you CAN throttle to 50% which will not affect your speed so much as optimize your manoeuvrability for all the good it does.

I think that works only if you throttle down before the interdiction starts.

This weekend I noticed something weird about my Explorer rank as is shown on Inara?
I seem to be promoted en demoted from Elite to Elite I and back again:
Ranks history (on Inara)
2021-08-22 Imperial Navy Count
2021-08-22 Exploration Elite
2021-08-20 Exploration Elite I
2021-08-20 Exploration Elite
2021-08-09 Exobiologist Taxonomist
2021-08-05 Exobiologist Cataloguer
2021-08-05 Exobiologist Collector
2021-08-04 Exploration Elite I

On Aug. 4th I arrived from trip Colonia to Bubble and sold about 500 mil of exploration data.
That pushed me from Elite to Elite I (about 2% IIRC) and I have not sold any Exploration data after Aug 4th?

During those two days that the explorer rank is flipping, in Horizons I have been grinding rank for Empire (Viscount => Count), sometimes scanning systems with FSS but not planets (DSS).
In Horizons I have not sold any exploration data while grinding rank.

When I check my Home panel in the ship it says I am Elite II?? (about 1 or 2%)
Total profits from exploration is about 11.000.000.000,-.

Is something causing a problem when switching between Horizons and Odyssey?
24 Aug 2021, 5:40pm
Yes, the above-Elite ranks (and progress) are getting stripped in Horizons (and thus also in the journals), so it's better to stick with Odyssey.

Dav's Hope never was supposed to be a looting place, only just for relog freaks. So what shall be nerfed here?
