Elite: Game talk

It's kinda sad reading something like that. Mostly to the console players who get the biggest hit because 1) there is literally no alternative to ED (No Man's Sky isn't really a space sim) and 2) there are people who got Series S as more affordable alternative to PC gaming rig.

Would you rather find out now, or 800 hours into the game when you're at the end of Ram's quest that none of it is or will ever be finished? Sooner or later, you're going to chase one of the many mysteries in ED. No matter which mystery you choose, be it Raxxla, the dark wheel Far god cult, black flight, INRA bases, Jameson's crash site, Salvation, guardian homeworld, thargoid hive mega ships, etc - they all lead to the same place. Nowhere. And again, no matter which mystery you're interested in, you can check the development date and the last time that content was updated was 2018. Then you'll go back and read the dev updates, noticing that since then it's all been odyssey. The horizons team that made all that great stuff literally left the company years ago, and finished exactly 0 lore stories. Don't take my word for it, go ahead and get involved. But know that you've been warned - nothing but heartbreak lies ahead.

Pls

Also nice and quick landing on a planet, as usual everything ultra including terrain

Oh and let's not forget landing at those evil 20.... err 100 fps bases

+Bonus highrez icey asteroid belt battle

I'm just sayin', i can enjoy odyssey in VR at full settings with no issues, i just don't like doing the onfoot stuff rn cause there's no first person pawn, but in terms of performance i don't see what's stopping them, having a walk around bases in VR after they enabled the camera suite for on-foot is pretty epic.

The only annoyances i have in truth is the god damn aliasing, no matter how much i jack up supersampling or AA or even the headset render rez, i cannot reduce them anymore than i can using basic 1.5 SS, alas that's supposed to change in update 7 with some quick fixes in that area.

All in all i noticed that resolution (which is obviously VR's prime area) doesn't really affect performance that much past a certain point, i can keep my frame timings around the 8ms area pretty much consistently.

EDIT: Nice, just saw that update 7 is finally going to fix having scatter showing on one eye and not the other, it was quite annoying to look at.

EDIT2: Right, i just noticed that you can't see it captured in the VR mirror elite has, but throughout all this i had a small screen near my right elbow that was streaming some star trek from vaughn.live xd

I am not sure how you record this but first it is 720p video ... you realize that is 1/4 from 1080p and 1/16th from 4k resolution? Try to record same stuff playing on screens and tell me how it goes.

Secondly ship stuff is relatively well optimized even though at some terrains you can get potato performance - you just haven't seen those.

Lastly, the main performance issues are on-foot. Should I remind you that the content you are ignoring was the main selling point of Odyssey? It is not normal a beast of PC with latest GPU from Nvidia or ATI to struggle with a game on Full HD and having 5-25FPS in some situations. What is more annoying is that it is not even stable - you can have normal 50-60FPS and then suddenly drop to 6 without any obvious reasons.

That's the usual problem with VR footage. Can't tell the original resolution, can't tell the frame rate because no counter is visible, and when things get jerky, you can't tell if its because of lag in head tracking.

One thing is certain: to have a smooth experience in Odyssey at native 4K resolution, your hardware must be high end and can't be older than a year. And I'm not sure if EDO is a game that justifies a hardware upgrade of that kind. It just isn't good enough for that; it requires next-gen hardware but doesn't look next-gen; in fact it looks the same, if not worse than Horizons.

Yep, the video is 720p but it can be upscaled 480p or even less.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

And if you ignore on-foot stuff why bother with Odyssey at first place? Perhaps of the better new UI or the improved light model. /sarcasm

The vids are 1080p 30 fps with 20mb/s HEVC encoded, so idk wtf you're on about the 720p.

Not to mention it's visually obvious in those vids that its 1080p, ya'll ever seen 720p? you're not going to get sharp aliasing like you do in those. (btw the earlier clip that shaka complained about was 576p discord formatted ;d )

But i am indeed cooking up a fuller vid showing settings, all the counters you can fit in your arses, etc after i finish munching this pizza, so stay tuned, and prepare to get *very* angry because i guess i won the lottery.

Regarding the on foot content, you are aware that being in a ship while landed at a base is more performance intensive than being on foot in that base with your ship dismissed (i actually get an increase in frametimes of about 1.5ms in that situation)? It's one of the common complaints that having your ship nearby causes FPS issues, but yes i'll make sure to include an "on foot" walkthrough in a base as well.

Not sure from where you come but you simply telling that everyone having performance problems are not telling the truth and the game is fine just because you think so ?

I told you , try to play on a screen and do not cap your fps at 30 as 30 is not acceptable even for a modern console.

Oh god you're so confused, VR mirror =/= in VR, yes i keep the mirror at lower frames and rez than the main VR view (which is rendering at about 3500x2000)... as anyone who uses VR does.

btw, you seriously think i'm doing VR in 30 fps, are you absolutely mad or something? I'd be puking myself out all the way through, see i didn't even expect someone to assume such nonsense, but i keep getting surprised.

Forget the damn VR, play the game on screen with 1080p native resolution and go to on-foot conflict zone. Activate FPS monitor and tell me how it went.

Sure thing, i'll make sure to pick a big base and preferably at night so it gets properly hammered, but since i already know the answer i'll let you in on a tip: you're gonna be mad.

But at this point i think it'd be unfair not to mention a key element, i've gotten my hands on a golden sample 5900x which achieves 4,8 GHZ all core boost stable, and 5,0 single/dual core (with my current PBO settings which are -30/-25 on CCD0 (25 being on the best 2), and -25/-20 on CCD1 (20 being on the best 2, of course) - which i could trade for 4,7 all core and 5,1 single core but i don't see much point in that either from benchmarks or actual gaming i did with it.

And you think the graphics quality and performance is justified on such hardware?

My job is done here.

Lol, if I see such text quality on 1080p I will throw the game through the window. ("PROCEED TO LANDING PAD 25")

Curious, yet this is the file i uploaded

Does streamable need time to process to 1080p too like YT or what.

Oh come the fuck on...

Hi there, we are still in the process of finding the right balance between quality and streaming playback that allows users in all regions to view videos without buffering, so some of your videos may be downscaled to 720p to achieve that.

If you would like to have the option of always streaming your video in full resolution (up to 4K which is 2160p) you can try out Streamable Pro. Unfortunately it's too expensive for us to offer 4K streaming for all of our free user base.

Welp, anyone got some good alts that aren't youtube?

I simple: "Yes, I like it!/Wow, it is total s#!t!" will work. I do not need a video as a proof. Seen plenty of those during live streams and YT.

I'm not really setting the bar very high, but anything below native 1080p @ 60fps is unacceptable in 2021 imho.

In space and on planet surfaces without nearby settlements I do get 60fps, but almost every time I fly through a mailslot, there's a short stutter, as if the game is swapping textures into VRAM or whatever. It doesn't take long, but it's annoying because it happens just when I align my ship for the landing pad.

In settlements my fps is between 50 and 60, but here the stutters occur about 3-4 times per minute. None of my other games performs so badly; even Cyberpunk 2077 is smoother than Odyssey while rendering much more detail in every scene.
