BurstarI cannot recommend Odysseus. The gameplay is a 20 year old fps concealing a 40 hour grind with an option to grind another 60+ hours clicking on exotic rocks. Then there's the bugs and at best side-grade in planet generation tech...
Frankly i can't see how anyone would be happy paying $40 for this and any recommendations are likely skewed by Covid lockdown lowering ones standards.
SakashiroLast weekend I found myself alone in Deciat, so I switched over to Horizons and ended up with 8 other players in my instance. And the scanner of my ship was readable again. And night vision was not a pixelated mess any more. And the frame rate never dropped below my screen's refresh rate when flying through the mailslot.
Horizons remains the gold standard that Odyssey has yet to reach.

i agree missions are hard, my thargoid plans have failed. but walking on planets and jumping around your ship is great fun.

UmbrellaCorpElite Dangerous is a space game that no longer develops new space content. However, the lore (science fiction) writing is excellent. So I'd read about it but not play it, because none of the lore translates into playable content. As far as the Odyssey expansion goes, well Arian Grande is doing free concerts in Fortnite, and that's free with more new content than you can shake a pickaxe at. ED will never be able to compete on that scale and the space content stuff stopped so I can't recommend getting involved in this title. Eve Online, Star Wars titles - there's too much else out there that has active content for this title to be competitive. Obviously Fdev agrees, hence the replacement of space content development resources with galnet news fiction writers.

It's kinda sad reading something like that. Mostly to the console players who get the biggest hit because 1) there is literally no alternative to ED (No Man's Sky isn't really a space sim) and 2) there are people who got Series S as more affordable alternative to PC gaming rig.
Even thought I don't have Odyssey, I still enjoy the game to the fullest and I never grew bored of it. I am aware that's not really applicable to everyone yet I think if someone starts ED right now, even without Odyssey, it's seems to be more approachable than three years ago.
