Alright, I have a question.

All too frequently, I find myself plotting a course for another system only to be forced to target something else in the same system in order to go to supercruise (gotta love obscured targets). Then I have to go back into the Galaxy Map to re-plot my course. The same thing applies if I target a planet in order to map it but I plotted a course for another system.

Is there any way at all for me to get my plotted course to another system back without having to re-do it it in the Galaxy Map and without logging off and logging back into the game?

There is a key binding called "Target next system in route" that will return your target on the next system on route.
In addition there is a key binding that can activate FSD to enter super cruise - if your target is blocked. It is called supercruise, set a key and in case the jump is blocked by body, go to supercruise and clear the target.

Well, for starters you don't need to target something in-system to enter supercruise. There are separate keybindings for Engage FSD (the automatic option you seem to be using), Jump to Hyperspace (next sytem), and Engage Supercruise (in system). Using the last keybind would allow you to enter SC at will regardless of what you have targeted.

There is also a Target Next System command if you have a route plotted that will target your next jump system. This may also help, but I recommend the 'manual' keybinds personally.

I suppose I should have stated that I'm playing ED on my PS4 and not on PC. How would I do all this on a console?

Do you not have key bindings settings on console? Oh, my!

Nah they have to be able to program buttons. That'd be crazy. Can you imagine being stuck with a "dump all cargo" button by default and not being able to get rid of it? You're looking for 'Button Binds" or "configure controller" but it's gotta be there somewhere.

Edit: ftr I say it "has to be there somewhere" because the button bind grind is basic Elite gameplay tutorial by FDev design.

This thread may be helpful? The original post was related to leaving a planet's surface, but the answers seem more general.

Edit: This is an XBox thread, but I would imagine the controller bindings are the same apart from the names of the buttons?

I have keybinds for you to help with that. Takes getting used to, but you won't have that problem. They are in Xbox speak, so I'll edit them for PS4 for you. I'll PM you a little later tonight.

Edit: Actually, if you don't want to change your whole scheme, this command is all you need.

Target next system in route - RB+LB (On the DS4 I don't know what they call those, but they are the pointer buttons right over your trigger buttons. It takes a press at the same time to have your ship target whatever you already have plotted next.

SakashiroThe Dropbox links appear to be dead.

Drat; foiled again. I love Dropbox's service overall, but linking to images hosted on it is always a pain.

Direct links, instead:

I wish I could see it up close.

Yeah it sucks that particular star group is Permit Locked, but it sounds from your description you've identified the right group. The only thing I'd say is that these bright line of O-B-A stars are a thing throughout the galaxy, are easily visible over 800 LY away, and aren't all permit locked so you'll see more in your adventures taht you can reach I'm sure of it.
