QuillmonkeyIf you’re intending to get to Rackham’s Peak with your FC you left it way too late. Folk usually head up a couple days in advance of the holiday. You might find space in the surrounding systems or maybe someone will head away soon (nursing their heads and jangling their wallets).

Can "public holiday" be predicted?

SakashiroAnother question: Do pulse wave analysers have any use in laser mining? IIRC they only show core or sub-surface deposits, no?

Short answer: No.
Long Answer: PWA highlights only rocks with features(core, sub-surface and surface deposits)

Pirates will attack you on any day ending in a y, and twice on Tuesday. Is that joke?

I see the chance to find something in a single hotspot is still zero. Wasn't that supposed to be changed? I went to a pristine painite hotspot last night and returned with pretty much everything except painite.

OK, I just saw in the wiki that painite can be laser-mined only in metallic rings. I guess yesterday's hotspot was in a metal-rich ring, so it only affected core mining.

Metal-rich is shit for mining.
If in bubble I like Koboga. Only a single platinum hotspot but has a haz RES on it so it is very quick to fill up.
Other systems have overlaps but as I mentioned before, this plays only a very small part in getting good yields.

That, and Painite was nerfed like a year ago. Not only is it harder to find within its Metallic hotspots, but its payout is poor. The meta is now Platinum (and Osmium if you find it). Platinum is much faster to mine, has a higher demand, that is more stable when selling than Painite.

I guess for platinum I have to go to metallic rings, too? I did find osmium in that painite hotspot yesterday.

If only there was a link to a list that told you this information, perhaps from r/eliteminers...

It's interesting that gold and silver can be laser-mined in metal-rich rings, but platinum can't.

RealzonderCan "public holiday" be predicted?

Not precisely but I believe Rackham's occurs approx once a month. I think CMDRs head up before time to make a holiday out of it (PVP, racing etc.) before they make their millions. Not been myself.

hi all

im not sure if ive found a new in game bug and cant seem to find a way to raise a ticked with fronter usimg my phone.

im useing my second Acc and have just started unlooking engineers, for 1 you need 5 tons of a rare good of which ive just loaded up with 192 ton of the 400 availible. now i know most of the rare goods are capped at around 5 - 15 tons.
has this changed or is it a bug

Descartes"Insufficient power in capacitors?

It means that the power draw for the system in question is too high for the power distribution system to keep up and you've exhausted the power capacitors.

Technical on power storage, unrelated directly to the answer requested
Capicators are a form of power storage that allow a quick discharge of power when a draw on the system is present. They fill in the gaps when the power generator cannot cope with a temporary draw spike on the system. Without going into too much more detail, power is nominal (normal) and also peak (absolute max). A generator is selected usually to meet nominal power, but not for peak power. When there is differential power available from a generator, i.e. the generator supplies more power than the system needs, you can install a capacitor to be charged by the generator. If the system reaches peak power demand, the capacitor is drained of power to keep the system on-line when the generator would not otherwise be able to perform the task alone.

Depending on the needs and task, you have a couple of options.

Cheapest-easiest:
adjust your power systems using your arrow keys. Left for systems (shields, sensors, etc.), right for hardpoints (weapons, mining tools, etc.), up for engines, and down for balance, IIRC is the default config for keyboard users.

You can see the current capacitor load and distribution in the HUD UI to the right of your shields. 3 power bars for the capacitor levels of power in each system, and the pips (0-4) represent the distribution of generator's power to refill the capacitors. 0 means no power goes to that capacitor- use it and you lose it. 4 send max generator power to that system. 2-2-2 is the balanced, but does not work well in several situations.

[Power Distributor Capacitors, full, set to max charge on engines and nominal charge on systems.]

If rebalancing does not work, you might need to upgrading/engineering your power distributor or your power plant, depending on how bad the power draw is.

Finally, IIRC, some things straight up drain your power, like thargoids. I don't do xeno, so I can't confirm directly.

I have a question about fleet carriers: If you use your carrier for exploration and take it out of the Bubble, how do you make money to pay for its upkeep? I know you can install Universal Cartographics as a carrier service and sell exploration data to it, but are there any other options? If I understand fleet carrier commodity markets correctly, any mined commodities you sell to the market on your carrier, you're basically selling to yourself since you represent both sides of the trade. To actually turn those commodities into funds, you have to return to civilization and sell them to others.
