I'd been out in the black for 11 months and upon returning to the bubble was ganged within 30 minutes. I didn't miss that part of the game one little bit. Teach me to play in open until I up my combat skills, which suck.

To me, if you're on the explorer's fit, you don't have a single chance against a ganker, not even to escape. And it's not about combat skill, that's how the game works, there is no effective mechanism against gankers. That's why I prefer to play in Solo.

I wish there was just a simple pvp toggle option. If on, combat is normal and there would be some bonus to payouts or material grind. If off, some magic anti-pvp device is activated on your ship that prevents damage or interdicting from other players. I think if they had thought things out a bit more they would not need solo/private/open/arena modes at all.

Yes, there are plenty of solutions that could be offered. The problem is that FDevs doesn't see this as a priority and instead of uniting players in one universe, has divided them even more with Odyssey )))

There are a few ungankable ships in the game.

That's right, there are those ))) And I don't think that's the Anaconda in the explorer fit? ))))

Of course if you min-max everything for jump range, you'll end up with something that can only survive solo.

Sooo... the Fedneck's Diplomatic Corps needs to distance itself from its own government now, huh?

God, I love the FDev's writer team for finally showing the players that the Federation are NOT "good guys"...

And I'm not against the dangers that await in the black, but we need some mechanism for avoiding them with tactics or cunning if you can't win by force. And there is no such mechanism. It's either brute force or Solo.)

If you're talking avoiding ganks in the black then there are tactics for getting away.

If your throttle is zero and your speed is 30km/s you don't show up on radar. Keep in mind this works for both of you.
You can manually depower your fsd which drops you to normal space without leaving a low wake marker to drop on at the cost of some minor frame damage, thus allowing you to jump away safely to another system most likely farther away than they could possibly follow
If you do get interdicted you can deploy a heatsink to make targetting you 'slightly' more difficult assuming you submitted to it in the first place.

The odds are not in your favour, but, there ARE things you can do.

Edit: also, if you're worried about getting ganked returning to civilized populated space dock at a satellite station with a shipyard and transfer to a more survival friendly ship and then start your turn in journey.

There were MMO's in the 90's that figured out how to keep PvE/PvP separate while keeping players in the same game space space the majority of the time. It's not hard, and it's something Fdev could get very creative with if they didn't spend 90% of their time fixing bugs and cutting off platforms from their shitty updates (thankfully).

Fixing bugs or inventing new bugs to fix them later, making this an excuse for not doing something that involves creativity and imagination.

BurstarIf your throttle is zero and your speed is 30km/s you don't show up on radar. Keep in mind this works for both of you.

For a while I thought it works like that, but it actually doesn't. The official manual says:
Ships are automatically visible within a 40 second time horizon, based on the fastest ship’s speed.

So when you slow down to 30km/s, your own scanner range collapses to 1,200km and you see fewer ships around you, but it doesn't make you invisible. I tried this once with my loaned Sidewinder in Deciat, but after a while someone found me anyway.

BurstarYou can manually depower your fsd which drops you to normal space without leaving a low wake marker to drop on at the cost of some minor frame damage, thus allowing you to jump away safely to another system most likely farther away than they could possibly follow

AFAIK the only way to suppress a low wake marker is by menu logging. I've never seen any evidence that the effects of depowering the FSD are any different from performing an emergency drop.

Do not mix those with power with the commoners.

Because the constant warmongering and shady dealings in the past wasn't enough...

Anadromous#1229Just got ganked for the first time. Managed to escape destruction twice, limped in to dock on Indomitable with 4% hull left.

That was “fun”

Think I might help our comrade in solo for a while.

My strategy for avoiding gankers is thus: Submit to interdiction, turn to face the ganker, boost past him, select a nearby system, engage silent running whilst boosting past them (may not be that advisable unless you have decent hull/module reinforcements), and then high wake out of Dodge and hope he doesn't have a frame shift wake scanner (you can always jump to a third system to insure against that, which you may need to do anyway if you wind up in an uninhabited system).
