Bah, you're better off adding a 4ton cargo rack, 2 AFMU's, a Mining Lance and a Hull Repair limpet controller then 4 AFMU's. That's ridiculous overkill

You can synth ammo for your AFMU's if you ever need to, but you won't because out in the black there are Fleet Carriers everywhere to reup at With my setup you wouldn't even need to use FC's and could repair your hull whenever necessary and farm your AFMU ammo/FSD Boost/Limpet mats for true permanent self sufficiency at the cost of maybe half a light year in range.

Edit: something like this, although I'd consider swapping out the shields for an SRV Hangar and mix and match the class 2 and 3 slots on personal taste. Pro tip with this power set up come to a complete stop and shut off your thrusters to repair.

QuillmonkeyWill you be exploring without your carrier?
On trips to Colonia or Sag A etc I only ever used AFMUs twice, maybe three times per trip (approx 60 neutrons). Now I have an FC I’ve stopped equipping them entirely. I’m no more than 10 jumps from home even in the black.
I suppose if you need to get somewhere fast (faster than 1500LY per hour) you might choose to leave your carrier behind and neutron jump it but I’d still only carry 1 AFMU it has all the repair you need.

I'm currently storing ships and modules in my carrier that may become useful during a long distance journey. The DBX will fill a gap in my fleet because I currently have no other ship that could easily cross regions like the Abyss without getting stuck. Maybe that DBX will come in handy to scout for jump targets for the carrier. The optional internals aren't cast in stone, but I'd rather equip another AFMU than leave a slot unused. I have no use for hull repair limpets, but I may drop one AFMU for a vehicle hangar, or all of them for additional fuel tanks in case I need to pass through a region without scoopable stars.

Natsumi-ChanAny suggestions on deep-space Exploration builds for the Asp Explorer and Anaconda? Python would have been nice, but I'm not seeing the sort of jump range I have with the Asp.

This should link to my build for AspX... I have the PD for Guardian work. Happy exploring and Fly Dangerous!

T16000M

What setting in the ED menu for controls, allows me to move my ship in a strafing motion. I have found that under Alternate Flight Controls, I can do this but only via either a switch to enable or toggle to enable/disable. I want to be able to strafe while still using primary flight controls. I KNOW I've done this in the past, but my settings got messed up and I have been unable to get them back the way I want.

Thanks o7

I use the T16000M flight setup with joystick and throttle. For strafing, I personally found that to be easiest by binding the left/right, up/down strafing movements to the mini joystick stick on the front of the throttle.

That is exactly what I want to do. Which setting inside ED binds to that key? That's what I'm looking for. :-)

You may also consider a lightweight rail with plasma slug if you need to empty your fuel tank to extend your max range.

If that's the case then instead of 4 AFMU's replace 2 with a Supercruise assist and SRV Hangar.

Is there a list of materials that can be extracted from asteroids? If possible, I'd rather equip a small mining laser instead of a vehicle hangar. But I'm not sure all the materials for FSD injections can be picked up that way.

IIRC the only raw material needed for exploration related ammos that can't be asteroid mined is Yttrium. Stock up on that and you get 100 +100% FSD boosts. More than enough for the few instances you'll be chasm crossing with no other option.

Well, that was easy. Thanks! o7

I use Elite: Dangerous - Minerals and Where to Find Them (Credit: Intergalactic Mining Union)

According to that sheet, 11* of the 28 materials are surface only - although Tin can be found in Metallic asteroids.
Antimony, Mercury, Molybdenum, Niobium, Polonium, Ruthenium, Technetium, Tellurium, Tin*, Yttrium, Zinc

For premium injection's you'll need Niobium, Polonium and Yttrium from surface prospecting/mat trading, and for basic AFMU refills you'll need Zinc, again from surface prospecting/mat trading.
