Stiggo61Looking at moving on from ED due to the PS4 future issues, not complaining as had several cheap years of enjoyment, and was wondering if you could suggest the best / similar ED game to move to?
Thanks

Give No Man's Sky a try. It's far from space sim, but it's a space game at the core. It also has crossplay, the updates are free, and the game world is actually pretty stable. It starts off as space survival, but turns into an exploration game with crafting elements mostly.

Thanks Aleksander, will have a look through the reviews.

That's very vague, as the profit per trip depends on your cargo hold. But try this (~20 mil profit per round trip under 20Ly, assuming 720t cargo hold).

Never knew Inara had this. The more you know. Lol.

It's nice to have a route of your own, you almost learn where the pirates are stalking and you get to insult them very fast. I've had a couple of runs like that in a type-7, but they ran dry after a couple of legs.

I use it all the time. Easiest way to earn credits.

It's unlikely that any individual CMDR can beat the crowdsourced knowledge of thousands of pilots running EDMC and reporting commodity prices every time they dock somewhere.

Don't underestimate the power of the ingame commodities market.

If you pay attention to the "also produced by" corner, you can find some very good bargains, especially with the Odyssey settlements, that nobody else noticed.

I made my first Trade Elite by carrying Pyrophyllite, from a settlement to a Station 50 Ls away, with a profit of about 19k each.
This small settlement was probably never visited by someone running EDMC for months!

I always believed it is, that's why I got to Elite 5. But my friends keep telling me that mining is more profitable per hour.

It really is. Even with the Trade Route finder, at best you'll find 35k round trip profit which may be done 4x/hour so 140k/t/h with diminishing returns if and when the demand gets closer to being filled. Platinum can be mined for 280k/t. So, all you have to do is fill your hold sell and return within 2 hours (easily done) and mining wins. This is even easier with a Fleet Carrier.

That said, the difference is close enough that if you prefer pure trading then have at it. Either way makes credits at a rate worth the effort so do what you enjoy.

From the experienced players, what are the 'mandatory' 3rd party plugins?

After seeing you guys mention EDMC a couple times today, I DL'd and set it up... I started playing ED this past November and have been exclusively logged into Inara. I've been playing ED while on job injury so I have a lot of hours in a short time, but I'm still somewhat inexperienced because I slow-play mostly in solo... but I do visit nav beacons a lot.

I know there are a lot of tools that are awesome like neutron star plotters, ship builders, star maps etc. and things that can help a particular need... and I have made tons of credits and learned a lot just using Inara alone. But even Inara doesn't work alone and (I believe) relies on cmdrs using tools like EDMC. Most of the 3rd-party tool vids on YouTube are prior to EDO and most are years old. So what are the current must-have 'base' tools that every player really should be using as 'standard requirement', and maybe tips on using them effectively to help the community?... for example, I know I'll usually forget to start EDMC prior to starting ED, so I copied the app shortcut to the windows 'startup' folder and checked the minimize to tab box so it's always running (I'm hoping its a small enough app that it doesn't affect anything)(C:\Users\*Name*\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup).
And I found 'EDHM UI' (HUD colors) to be a mandatory app for quality of life playing especially for VR players to be able to read thing easier.

Inara helped me 'get-from' the game and it looks like EDMC is to help 'give-to' the game. I absolutely Love ED as a 'lifestyle' simulator and plan to participate for a very long time (and now that I've been engineering ships to hopefully give me protection from gankers who kill for pleasure and no role-play at all... yeah I'm old! I prefer canyon running and enjoying the sights lol) I plan to start playing in Open more often.
(I'll probably post this as a topic in fdev forum in case other newer users would like the 'updated info' too and its less linear.)

Inara is a one stop shop for much of what you'd use.
The only other 'must have' is the website: EDSY.org for ship configuration planning.

As for EDMC, also must have but you have it already There are many plugins for it you should consider:
Canonn Research's plugin
