KaizimmI always believed it is, that's why I got to Elite 5. But my friends keep telling me that mining is more profitable per hour.

Mining vs. trading is like chess vs. ping-pong.

Mining may be more profitable, but only if you do it an hour at a time. It requires preparation. If you log out in the middle of a mining session, your ship better be combat-ready, because there will be pirates waiting for you on return. If you don't have a carrier, your best point of sale will be far away. If you do have a carrier, you have to haul the goods twice (ring to carrier, carrier to point of sale) or pay someone else to do the other half of the work for you. Oh, and don't forget your limpets!

Trading is granular; you get paid every few minutes, so it's easy to do other things in between. This makes it very appealing to people like me who get bored easily.

Take a T10 to Parrots Head and mine at the Triple Platinum Hotspot. Fill up 256 tonnes + 10 in the refinery in ~40 minutes. Store it on your carrier and sell it for +280kCr a tonne or sell it to one of the local carriers for ~250kCr a tonne. That's 60-75Mcr in less than an hour, and there are no NPC out that far, so you can rest easy when logging off for the night.

Stick at it and you can mine an entire fleet carrier out of platinum in a matter of months - one load at a time.

Of course - you have those rare CG events that throw stupid money at you, but it's no comparison.

That is interesting. I guess you started playing recently.
My CR per ton are far better but then most of my mining was done before FC and tritium.

I was thinking, 60-75Mcr in less than an hour? You can easily make more just by hauling gold, bauxite, or agronomic treatment at any given time. And it doesn't take a carrier or leaving the bubble.

I think with platinum mining you can do roughly 140-150m per hour (If my memory serves me well last time my Titan filled the 512t cargo in around a hour)

Yes - started mining recently. It took me from original Beta to Odyssey to finally become multi-ship. Earlier this year discovered the T10 and sold my Exploraconda and started mining for reals.

You don't have to leave the bubble. It's just convenient for avoiding NPCs. I did most of my mining at Omicron Capricorni B and shovelling it to the nearest best seller. I bought 75% of my carrier from Mining - and the Galconda CG did the rest. You simply avoid the NPC trouble by always returning empty to the mining spot before giving up for the night.

Apart from being chased for my load when selling (and I'm in a fully armed and armoured T10. I'll ram you before you can get my shields down) you do not get any hassle. It's quiet, it's occasionally exciting, it's assured. 60-75MCr is my relaxed attitude. Load up a Cutter and you can allegedly pull 160MCr an hour for speed mining.
