EpisparhThat sounds very interesting. Almost as interesting as exploring with a sidewinder.

Believe it or not, flying the Sidewinder to the galactic core (or the Courier to Beagle Point) actually gave me some of the most memorable moments in the game. Not because there was interesting stuff to find but because space feels different when the next repair shop is thousands of light years away.

Taking a carrier out into the black without a cargo hold full of tritium and without months of upkeep in the bank should add a sense of urgency to the game that is usually missing. If I fail to replenish the carrier's fuel, I won't be able to move, and if I fail to move, it will become increasingly difficult to acquire the data that pays the bills. I'll be flying ships, driving SRVs, and walking across planets to make this work. The only element missing is the combat. But I have another Odyssey account to scratch that itch.

Yeah, usually painful experience is more memorable

Good plan of making memories

Just yesterday I almost run out of fuel in a Python while crossing Syneufe sector. Exploring with poor FSD for the size of the ship that's not made to explore is quite exiting sometimes. Had two jumps worth of fuel and it took about 70% of the remainining to the near scoopable. Rest of the way was careful and got back to Bubble even without a pirate attack. Thargoids of the Coal Sack Nebula number likely in Thousands (saw about 900 signals while visiting the bases) , but I did not ask them if they are planning to destroy some human settlements in there.

You have a factual mistake:
Python is made to do everything. Your poor build is your problem

P. S. If you do not trust me just take a look at https://edastro.com/exploration/#shiplist and sort by score.

You will find python as 5th best ship for exploration.

Yeah yeah, I just did not know what I was going to do next while buying parts. It's a sort of bit upgraded generic Python

Show me an effective AX (anti-interceptor) Python then

People have complained about carrier upkeep, but I think it's actually one of the best mechanics in the game. ED needs less grind and more logistical challenges. Occupying a hangar or landing pad at a spaceport should cost money. Ships should require maintenance. They should fall apart when their integrity stat drops to 0%. The game should be a constant uphill battle against an environment that drains your resources over time. Liquidating your assets should be the only way to stop that drain.

On the other hand, credits should buy everything, including engineering materials. Acquiring a pre-engineered module should be as easy as selling one, if you have the credits to afford it.

Saka is obviously a fan of survival games. But even then FC upkeep is a penalty that works against you even if you do not play - this is the reason people complained.

just wondering why there are still no ´pure fuelships´ in game like a (some) moving tanker fleet(s) or fuel staions in game.. would make sence.. so you can travel far away with your carrier without the need for grinding for fuel. like a station with a panther clipper for only fuel transfer, but forget panther clipper was canceld in the phase of development, only spotted during alpha phase.. there are some asteriod stations in the deep but i like to see a closer network for only fuel so the damm carriers can move out of the bubble, where they hanging mostly around.

FC is a support asset. You can do everything* without it.

I believe what was done with the tritium is to keep the main focus of the game around space ships not around managing a station.

*everything except reaching systems that are out of range with jumponium injected.

nice point of view, i don´t thought about that background, could be right

As long as your carrier is in the game, you're participating in gameplay, even while you're offline. You can still trade commodities and collect taxes on services.

We can argue whether the decommission fee is a penalty, but upkeep makes perfect sense.

There is a long history of this FC implementation and you can see why they are what they are now.

Initially a FC was thought to be a squadron asset. A mobile station that will support a large number of players and will be funded by large group of players. So one can see why this idea faced opposition from small squadrons or lone players.

Frontier made the decision to make them personal assets and scaled down the maintenance cost but they still wanted them to be some what of a burden. So the FCs came with significant weekly and jump cost and with significant tritium consumption(1t per 1ly) and a hefty delay (2h jump time and a long cool down). UC was not available also ... making them impossible to make money out in the black.

So, there was again time for pitch forks and torches and frontier made final changes to what is now.

IMO, Frontier should've kept initial squadron idea and made personal FC non-persistent object as mobile house which would be accessible only by the owner in a special personal instance.

That could be easily fixed with a switch (Keep FC presented in the universe = pay per week, exclude FC from the galaxy = 0 tax) ....That would fix also the FCs over-clogged systems.

Anyway, as most of the things in this game FCs are poorly designed half-baked feature. That is my opinion
