You know why they call it the Cutter? Because it looks sharp! Oof... I will see myself out.

MeowersAverage Elite Fan vs. Other Game Enjoyer

Sadly, Elite doesn't drive my imagination enough to finish the last of my stories. I hope the last spark will happen one day.

Maybe when they have the next big DLC unlocking the remainder of the planets/moons/regions, 3 more SRVs that nobody will use, 30 more paintjobs for each ship/weapon/carrier/suit/SRV/SLF, 8 more engineers at Beagle Point, 4 more engineers at Rackham's Peak, on-foot Thargoids, grade 10 suits/weapons, 20 more suit/weapon mods that require 60 of the most rare materials, and have Elite X ranks available? I'm sure there are a few more things they could add that won't work properly to spice things up a bit.

I know that feeling.

Yuna SakashiroI know that feeling.
Yup. Only the first of my stories was smth like 'a gameplay with an imagination wrapped around it'. And it wasn't a 'story' initially, just a logbook that was put under one title later. Second one is more of a reflection, with a perfect timing, resonating with some of my important IRL events. Third was a RP initially. Fourth is a kind of 'message' for people who write fake sh*t here. And the last one, and I know it's the last one, is another attempt to put gameplay and imagination together. But... the game doesn't assist me. So it's a struggle. There's no 'Thargoid war', only 1v1 skirmishes at NHSSs or those new HIP 22460 CZs that look like a seal-clubbing. And the Thargoids are punchbags. Even 1v1. My great friend J-Dog162 depicted a Thargoid war 'as it should be', as a war literally, in her story, and I'm following that image. But nothing in the game itself could help me with that. And I don't want to write smth just for the sake of writing it, every episode should be dedicated to something, should have a meaning. I have some 'milestones' for it, but no fuel to cover the distance between them.

What kind of fake sh*t?

Yuna SakashiroWhat kind of fake sh*t?
Found myself describing it, but the last part of this story ('The Fate We Share'), last 4 paragraphs, have anything that answers to that question in detail. You may read if you're interested, but no worries if you don't.

In short: serious IRL issues being marginalised and degraded to attract cheap attention.

Really , do you think we have the player base to actually survive a full scale realistic war with the Goids if Fdev wanted to drop it on us
Personally I wonder about FC being attacked the way stations have been in the past, with so many of them out there now there is almost not a reason to make them have to fend for themselves if something like a war happened it would make sense.

That's the beauty of instancing MMOs: There will never be more Goids than players seeking to fight them.

But easily there will be less. I'd love a massive AX fight, with even numbers of players and t-goids, and them coming in waves, it will be amazing. But, nope, AXCZs are a bunch of scouts, a pair of punchbag interceptors and a Hydra at the end, against 10 experienced pilots and 10 newbies who can tear down shields in seconds though. And it's all bugged. Ugh.

It's amazing how bugged even the most basic content is in this game. Days ago I got one of those random missions that sometimes pop up in the comms panel. Usually I decline them because the payment is lousy, but this time I thought, OK, why not? It was a salvage mission about retrieving an occupied escape pod. I flew to the crash site, and just when I scooped up the pod, the game spawned another! So I scooped that up, too. Both appeared as mission-related items in the inventory. I flew to the drop-off point and completed the mission, and suddenly I had one stolen escape pod in my cargo bay. All the other canisters I had picked up were marked as legal salvage though.

I guess I should have left the other pod there for the next person accepting the same mission, lol.

I'm often wondering lately if the bugs and other issues ED faces is due to the utilization of the cobra engine. Is it still the right engine for what kind of game ED is? Would a different game engine be better? If so which one would actually be best for this? If Frontier was to make a new ED2, would they be better off going with a whole new engine or modernizing the Cobra engine for it? Or perhaps making a Cobra 2 engine?

I found my personal arch-enemy in the Odyssey covered/nonviolent theft missions.
You sneak and stealth through the settlement, with the worst possible game mechanics;
and taking about 20 to 30 minutes of your time.
Somehow you manage to get right where you need to be....
...only to find the game NOT spawn your mission item.
Makes me angry all the time

dejavue, that sounds familiar on those missions i used to check the item location first, if it´s missing a reconnnect is helpfully.. the mission reset than usually..

In-house engines are a liability. It's easy to hire people with years of Unreal, Unity, or CryEngine experience, but where do you find people with intimate knowledge of Cobra? Few people outside Frontier have ever seen that engine. I think this is the problem that FDev is facing. CDPR is switching to Unreal for the same reasons. Unreal allows them to double the size of their dev team in no time, because there are so many people familiar with it.

I agree with this assessment. That said, I wonder if FDev was to remake ED, would Unreal be the best engine for it? Or would they need to overhaul it completely like Star Citizen did with Lumberyard? If not Unreal, then what?
