Really? I just farmed 750 merits for another prismatic shield.

Heh. As in, been there and done that, or? Yeah, first time for everything, and all that.

(In fact, I'd owned ED for some years now and had tried to get started on it a few times before, but always bounced right off the fact that I think either there was no auto-docking and take-off yet, or I never discovered it? So your first task would be either leaving or landing in a starport, something I couldn't accomplish for the life of me.

I seem to have hardly been the only one to suffer from this. It was only when I tried my hand at it again some months ago that I found this new somewhat-tutorial introductory mode saved my behind.)

Mac4Heh. As in, been there and done that, or? Yeah, first time for everything, and all that.
Nope, it's about the game mode itself. For some reason, it really lacks love and attention from FDev, and looks like 99% of players just abuse it to grab everything they could and leave.

KurakilWhat is the "typical emission range" for the sensors then? I guess that is where I am not clear.

It's basically the scan range, which is separate from the targeting range. It does not affect the radius at which your contacts panel will populate. And once a ship appears in the contacts panel, you can target it, even if it's behind you. Scanning requires facing the target.

A long time ago, I joined Epi in a hazRES. His Vulture had D-rated long range sensors, my Courier had lightweight ones. He saw all the high value targets long before I could see them. Lightweight was the right choice for a high speed Courier, but bigger ships are less sensitive to weight, so I've used the long range mod on my Mamba and now on my Cutter, on D-rated sensors. I found A-rated totally unnecessary and not worth the weight increase.

Engineering doesn't change the typical emission range, so you can compare D- and A-rated before wasting materials.

So it's the range at which you can passive scan, not the range at which an enemy is resolved and targetable. If that's the case then D-Rated sounds like the way to go for me. I have found I don't really need the Long Range mod on sensors so I will go Lightweight.

Uh. Did Fdev just delay the firing of the Proteus Wave again?

It's not a delay;
it's a feature

Salvation be like: Just one more CG guys. It will be ready for sure this time. Just one more CG guys. Just one more. Just... just... just one more. We swear it will be done this time. Just one more CG guys...

Next update is announced for 2nd week of August. Salvation should hold until then

How did this "Operation Breakwater" know there was going to be a collection CG two days before it was announced?
Is there somewhere that these things are listed. Its mentioned in this Galnet from two days ago (26 Jul 3308: When Thargoid Meets Relic)
That Operation BW had planned to offer to buy goods that were going to be needed by salvation, now they got most of the items wrong
but I still think its a little odd they knew ahead of time. I totally realize there could be a calendar of events listed and things get changed but I just found it a bit... off

FDev has a vacancy in imagination dept., many of their CGs are quite predictable, lookalike and boring.
Moreover, my friend predicted all that damn Azimuth-Salvation-Whatever sh*t saga

And all those super-pooper-whatever are just a cheap sitcom series. Nothing will affect the game world significantly enough.

Got 'em, yippee

ps So what's this "x power commodity allocation every half hour" that's part of the deal?

Edit, ah, wiki: "Each Rating also allows for a higher power commodity allocation per 30 minutes. This is needed for the Preparation attempts of all Powers. You can accelerate commodity allocation by paying 100,000 credits per stacks of 10 power commodity." That's still clear as mud'ish to me, but OK. I think I get the gist. Was mostly wondering is that allocated to you, or to the power in question. Guess the latter then, figures.

There are some VMs which FDev use to prepare CGs in advance and sometimes they let the information out unintentionally.

Frontier, in their ultimate wisdom thought that it will be fun for the players to wait X amount of minutes to buy N amount of PP commodities. I can speculate only as I was not playing when this was released, but probably no one was happy to wait 1 hour for 20-100 commodities to fill up a cutter so option to skip for money was added. Not sure why a pointless clicking was accepted by the players but Frontier have a record in abusing their customers with extra pointless UI actions.

P.S. You can earn merits with combat. It is relatively faster and more interesting, IMO.
