Jean NortonHello! Wanted to ask: what is the purpose of small ships? Can I farm something with it more efficiently?

Not really more efficiently. But you can use them to start the game when you're new to it, doing bounty hunting, I use them as fast Courier in short distance for paying a fine for example.

They can do everything but are limited in internal capacity (for hauling, mining or farming materials) and Jump range, they are useful for new players...

There are explorer which qualify as Small like the Diamondback Explorer or Asp Explorer, some are good for starting hauling too, Hauler or Adder ...
Consider them starter ships.

I got one Cobra Mk III and I love this ship.

Since you asked about farming... I toped up 2 Grade 5 materials and 3 Grade 4 in no time with a Krait Phantom equipped with a 5E CARGO RACK, one 5A COLLECTOR LIMPET CONTROLLER and one 3A COLLECTOR LIMPET CONTROLLER.

Scanning the local beacon in systems to find signals...

Core Dynamics Composites. Improvised Components. Conductive Polymers. Proprietary Composites. Thermic Alloys. All useful for engineering especially the Grade 5 that you can exchange at Materials traders.

If you change Power systems you'll find a different quality of Grade 5.

1. Small landing footprint, ideal for exobiology (can land on top of anything without the need for an SRV) and Odyssey on-foot missions (can land anywhere)

2. Small ship = small hitbox. You are much harder to hit and given the right small ship, loadout and piloting, you can easily defeat a large ship like the Conda or the Vetter. E.g. an iCourier can be the most deadliest weapon here.

Small ships are agile and mean, and the Cobra Mk5, with its boost speed of way over 600m/s and agility, plus its fantastic loadout of 3m*2s, will give larger ships a headache in combat. It will also be a good courier and bubble taxi and, maybe, the best small ship for powerplay missions.

small ships can also keep a cooler heat threshold, something useful for spying or smuggling missions if one so wanted to do them

On another note, the Cobra MK V is already showing in INARA Ship list:

I'll get mine as soon as the server is back inline.

They've done what I feared they would, making older ships pretty much obsolete (Krait Phantom, Asp Explorer etc), It's just as well that I am attached to my Krait and won't swap for the Mandalay most of the time, I got mine for the stake of supporting development and only use it when I need the range...

In this video from Citizen Kate, I noticed that the Thargoids are behaving differently than those I've seen in the CZs, looking far less aggressive. Also, the absence of Scouts swarms makes it more of a 1 vs 1 affair...

I still have to fit and engineer my AX Corvette and then go hunt some Basilisks...

That version looks worthy of a pirate. The only thing missing is a text embedded in the handle in curved letters: Raxxla

Why is it always about Raxxla with you.

It is the games analogy to the quest for the holy grail... and what brought me to Elite in the beginning. The lore and myth hunting were more fascinating to me than shooting things - though, I've to admit robbing LTD transports used to be strangely satisfying (until they nerfed it).
