I've been trying to get Merits through Frontline Solutions, and failing.
Does applying for fights through Frontline take you out of Powerplay?

I'm not a ship combat guy, the on-foot stuff suits me just fine, IF I could get it to work.

I can's say. I am not engaging in Power Play shenanigans.

Thinder The fix is simple enough: Point Defence Turrets treats the projectile like missiles and destroy them before they can cause damages, mount two on top of your haulers, you'll know when they are fired and will have time to maneuver to open the angle for the turrets.

I have a few in store but don't need to use them, there aren't any in CZs.

I'm confused. Are you saying PD is effective against flechette? I beleive PD is only effective against missiles, torpedoes, mines, and limpets and does not defend against direct-fire weapons like incoming cannon, frag, and plasma rounds.

I think flechettes before they are 'released' are contained within a projectile like the flak launcher against Thargon swarms is (and that can be shot down by point defense). They use a practically identical aiming/guidance system for the player, judging by footage I've seen elsewhere.

Never used them myself though, or been shot by them, so I can't be completely sure.

The Flechette is a projectile like a missile until it dislocate, the turret treats the projectile like a missile and destroys it.

I saw a video some time ago, here is a second one.

Vasil VasilescuSubtle new addition for PP2.0 (or maybe I never noticed it before) but in the hangar lobby of the main starport, there are portraits of the leader for the faction controlling or exploiting a system.

Yes, it’s a new addition for PP2.0 (and I would not call it subtle, but then I have a good eye for this kind of detail).
For a subtler addition, note the graffiti on hangar lobby walls

@Rawnu: None of your recent EDSY links work.

Apparently “Salvation [O]Lives” has also returned with this patch. Left to guess whether intentionally so or because they made their lives easier reusing the old graffiti code. Both are likely when the Nemesis plot thread is dangling open-ended, but Frontier also like to reuse old assets in some more or less creative ways.

I am not engaging in the power play, but it might have been kind of neat to have PP missions where you do low level things like add or remove graffiti, sort of like temporary decals. You may not be able to engage in combat, but you could go spray paint "Now is the Winter of our discontent" in Fed stations controlled by president.

You can hack the holo-adverts of a station to display your own power instead of an opposing one (as I’ve seen). It’s not exactly the same but sort of along that line of thinking.
