Elite roleplay: Citi Gateway

CITI GATEWAY

The Orbis station is a center of activity. Within the station a myriad of places can be found.
  • The Warrens: Where the poor plebs of the station live. It's is a breeding ground for the most unscrupulous. Keep an eye on your wallet when traversing the corridors of these areas.
  • Habitation Complex: For those workers and pilots that can afford it, this area provides closer to 1G gravity for more earth like living.
  • Commerce Divison: and Administration Where the larger corporations make their home. Station administration can be found here.
  • Industrial Complex: Where industry manufactures their various goods.
  • Entertainment: District Bars, theaters and night clubs, tattoo parlors and other establishments can be found vying for a commanders credits in exchange for a bit of fun.
  • Station Security: A high tech brig used to house law breakers until they can be tried, and or deported off station.
  • Medical Ward: Where commanders can get patched up, enhanced, or fix existing cybernetics.

General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

Making her way past a service drone happily buzzing about its business, Lilith spied the elevator she was looking for. Just as two women stepped out, escorted by a massive structure of a... Man? Maybe?

Accepting the fact there was no way he was moving for her, Lilith sidestepped him on her way to the lift, while eyeing the pair but one of them caught her attention.

*Dreadlocks, darkened skin, plus that giant....* She thought before blurting out, "Are you...??" Catching herself before saying anything else, she turned to carry on her way.

*Yeah sure Lilith, great idea. Even if she is Black Omega, she won't want goddam advertisment* She scolded herself.

Dr. Glaboski fumed back to his office. Stupid dolts he thought savagely about station security. They had nothing to loose. They got paid whether or not that girl got caught. He needed someone who would have something to loose. He smiled to himself as he closed the door to his office, and sat back in his chair. A station like this, Citi Gateway, always had a slew of bounty hunters crawling around. He called up a bounty site on his terminal and issued a bounty for Lilith. Though he did not have a name, he inputted her image with details that she could make use of clever disguises. She would be a tricky one to get, but she was on this station.

He offered the reward. 125k credits upfront, and another 200k for her capture. That was a lot of money for the doctor, but his reputation was at stake. But even more so, he enjoyed the feeling of being in control. And if he got this girl.....he would be in control...

He sat back with a smug.

Taking another sip from his glass, Isaiah perused the local Galnet feed via his personal data slate. He flicked through the headlines, scoffing slightly at some of the advertisements for different restaurant chains and clothing stores.

Out of curiosity, he decided to check the bounty boards. The most wanted individuals were listed, and if applicable, so were their ships and last reported locations. There were others that lacked ships and were likely native to the region, but the one that caught his eye was the one with the up-front payment.

Huh. Someone's really desperate to get this person.

Most clients he'd dealt with always held payments in escrow. While it wasn't unheard of to have clients who paid half up front, it usually meant there was an urgent need.

Hard to look past 125,000 credits though... do I really want to do this?

Hunting wasn't what he came here for. And he made a point of only tracking those who deserved it. Maybe it was someone who wanted payback for a crime committed against them. There might be a number of "good" reasons to jump on this particular job. But he needed to do his due diligence first.

Bringing up the potential client's contact information, he sent a text message:

"Why do you want this person so badly?"

Whilst her bodyguard is alert, Marra seems oblivious to the occasional glances from passer-bys.

"Trowch i'r dde," she calls out to the armoured minder.

Her assistant frowns, shooting Marra a glance. "The red-light district is to the left, mistress. Aren't we going the wrong way?"

Marra shakes her head; "The red-light is full of drugged-out dock-knockers. You think I'd put any cheap scrub up in Exotica? I'm looking for real talent. Something special. Unique."

The trio come to halt by a neon sign; INGABA.

Marra turns to face her waifish aide with a sly grin, "And here's where you can find it."

Dr. Glaboski was taken back for a moment. An inquiry, and a question to boot. He quickly responded.

~This woman, whom was brought in to the medical ward unconscious after she had unlawfully detonated a grenade. I was one of the physicians that worked on her. After he roused from her unconscious state, was provided a complete psychological evaluation which showed her to be a pathological lair, emotionally unstable prone to violent acts. She had hinted at taking pleasure in causing pain. We were going to move her to a psychological ward when she overpowered her guard, via use of a asphyxiation. Then she assaulted me in my office. Shortly after we found that she had breached the computer systems and downloaded patient and provider sensitive material. To what end she is going to use this for, is our guess. Medical administration has approved the use of outside help to bring her back.

Isaiah closed his eyes, thinking to himself. It looked like the standard-order individual recovery, but there was something not right that he couldn't quite pin down. It was the feeling in his gut that told him there was more going on than he was being told.

He typed out another message on his slate. "Are there any other conditions or things I need to be aware of before I take this job?"
22 Nov 2016, 1:18pm
Grateful that Marra didn't set the giant on her, Lilith made her way towards the elevator that had now slid shut. She jammed the button just as the digits above the door started decreasing, signifying it was moving down.

*Dammit* She thought, glancing around for signs of guards following her. Groups chattering, an old biddy struggling with the service drone by the cafe, a man typing fervently into his datapad, nothing to worry about so far.

While she waited, Lilith decided to pull out her own pad and check for any alerts regarding her hospital escape. It didn't take long before she found herself staring at yet another picture of herself.

*125K up front, plus 200K on delivery?* Lilith grinned at the compliment, *On the plus side, he wants me alive, but now there's bounty hunters to worry about.* She turned back to face the man still staring at his data pad, while tapping the elevator call button a bit more furiously this time.
22 Nov 2016, 3:31pm
Dr. Glaboski sat back in his chair. He considered Isaiah's question. His response was as follows.

~Psych testing reviewed that she may have had some prior military training. It would be wise to treat her with caution.~

He smiled. He could get that data stick back, and get back at her for trying to blackmail him.

"Job accepted."

Isaiah downed the rest of his drink, then rose from his seat and took a look around him. There were a few things he'd need before searching in earnest for the target, so he'd have to head back to his ship. He took two items from his jacket pocket: his credit chip and a blister pack of Purge pills. The first item he used to pay for his drinks; the second he popped open and placed one pill in his mouth.

Purge did exactly what it was named for: it purged the person's bloodstream of intoxicants. It was a shame because the Shockfrost was starting to have an effect on him, but... duty called.

Maybe next time.

Tucking both back into his jacket, Isaiah pushed his seat in and headed for the elevators, looking to go back to the docking bay and retrieve some essential pieces of his kit.

As he approached the elevator, he lifted his eyes and saw the woman his employer had made mention of. Quickly he averted his eyes but continued towards the elevator, not wanting to give himself or his intent away just yet.
22 Nov 2016, 11:39pm
A moment passed and the elevator door slid open, admitting a small flurry of people into the streets of Citi Gateway. Lilith eyed the approaching man suspiciously, on high alert, knowing that anyone could be a potential threat. Even the few tourists now leaving the immediate vicinity.

Stepping in to the lift, Lilith hit the button labelled 'docks' still debating whether or not to leave the station or restart her search for someone to do some tailing for her. Thinking about how she never did make it to the bar, a grin broke out onto her face, thinking about how people usually ended up unconscious after reaching the local establishments. Of course, inwardly she was grinding her teeth knowing full well she was going to punish the man and woman that got her hospitalised in the first place.
23 Nov 2016, 12:48am
"Job accepted" flashed on his screen. Dr. Glaboski clapped his hands together in jubilation. He sat back in his seat and sighed. Once he got that girl back in his custody, he was going to ship her off to high max loony bin. But before that, he would extract his revenge. He picked up a pair of forceps and turned them over. A wicked grin spread across his lithe facial features.

23 Nov 2016, 6:13am
He stepped onto the lift amidst a small crowd of people seeking to go back to the docking bay, knowing his mark was only a few feet from him. This wasn't the place to grab her - if anything, he'd need to observe her and see if he could deduce whether or not she had a weapon. The last thing he wanted was to make a scene and get innocent people caught in the crossfire - if there was to be one.

He moved towards a corner at the back of the lift, head down but eyes up just enough to look at his surroundings, keeping tabs on the woman. The feeling that something didn't quite add up lingered in the back of Isaiah's mind. Silently he wondered if what Dr. Glaboski had given him the full story. Not that it necessarily mattered at this point; he'd accepted the contract and he'd see it through to completion. But the feeling persisted.

Focus. If you feel like you're on the wrong side of something, there's nothing stopping you from getting back on the right side. Let it develop. See where it goes.
23 Nov 2016, 2:29pm
Lilith took position by the buttons next to the door, observing everyone that entered with her for signs they were tracking her. Either no one was, or they were smart enough to hide it, but either way the hackles on her neck bristled. Something was definitely up, but short of attacking everyone inside the elevator, there was nothing she could do about it as she hit the 'down' button, the doors slid shut and the metal container began its descent.

*No one is going to start something in a group* Her inner voice said reassuringly, but she still unconsciously adjusted to a slightly more defensive posture, while still appearing relaxed.

She must still be nearby. It's only been a few minutes since she left the bar. Oh, there she is...

"APOLLONIA! WAIT FOR US! Come on, Kyla."
24 Nov 2016, 9:24pm
Apollonia appears to be handing the devices she was given back to Marra, who gives her a stern look before pacing off in the direction of the docks.

Hearing Jemine's call, Apollonia looks around, waving with a smile as she walks back over.

"Well, that was awkward!" she exclaims to Jem. "That was my boss, Marsha. The guy in the furry suit was her crazy ex - real crazy, as you saw! He's always doing things like that, trying to embarrass her in front of her clients."

Apollonia looks back to the suited woman as she disappears in to the crowds, sadness and pity on her face and in her voice;

"Poor Marsha, she just can't leave her past behind and get on with life. Isn't that terrible?"
