Elite roleplay: Citi Gateway

CITI GATEWAY

The Orbis station is a center of activity. Within the station a myriad of places can be found.
  • The Warrens: Where the poor plebs of the station live. It's is a breeding ground for the most unscrupulous. Keep an eye on your wallet when traversing the corridors of these areas.
  • Habitation Complex: For those workers and pilots that can afford it, this area provides closer to 1G gravity for more earth like living.
  • Commerce Divison: and Administration Where the larger corporations make their home. Station administration can be found here.
  • Industrial Complex: Where industry manufactures their various goods.
  • Entertainment: District Bars, theaters and night clubs, tattoo parlors and other establishments can be found vying for a commanders credits in exchange for a bit of fun.
  • Station Security: A high tech brig used to house law breakers until they can be tried, and or deported off station.
  • Medical Ward: Where commanders can get patched up, enhanced, or fix existing cybernetics.

General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

"Come on now, Doc, not all bounty hunters go in guns blazing. Some of us take our sweet time in learning about our prey. And some of us don't work alone..." he let the words linger for a moment.

"You've been indulging me with your medical expertise, might as well explain it if it'll make you feel better."
02 Dec 2016, 11:11pm
Doctor Glaboski shook his head. "Tell me something I don't know. You made it clear that your working with her. And possibly others...." He pushed the probe into the brain matter slowly working it down.

"My feelings about this are irrelevant, just teaching you and doing some exploratory medicine while I'm at it."

He turned the probe. "The upside of all this is, no matter what happens, your making a lasting contribution to society. Something I dare say, your current profession lacks."

"How many in all are comming to your aid?"
02 Dec 2016, 11:20pm
"That'd be telling, Doc," he said, unsure of what was happening now beyond the knowledge that the doctor was working on him - to what ends, he couldn't bear to guess. He swallowed hard, thinking about Lilith and Cait. What if Lilith had bailed out and took the opportunity to leave him in her stead? He couldn't trust her, he knew that, but... he wanted to believe that there was something more to her than what could be seen on the surface.

And Cait. She'd be here by now... was she working with Lilith? Did Bloodfeather tell her what had happened? Could she be just around the corner?

He wished Bloodfeather was still in his ear, talking to him, keeping him calm, but the silence and Glaboski's questions only made him feel alone.

Where are you, Cait?
03 Dec 2016, 12:13am
Lilith frowned at the explanation for using her data pad...

"And why does it have to be mine??" She scoffed, "In fact, never mind. It doesn't matter..."

She considered the options for approach, but decided it really wasn't up to her in the end.

"Your choice... Guns blazing might hurry Glaboski up with whatever he's doing. Slow and quiet gives him more time." Lilith said simply, "At the end of the day... Isaiah ain't my main concern, no matter what you might think of me for saying so. If it goes wrong, you aren't getting an excuse to blame me, so you can decide onthe approach." She added the last sentence fairly dismissively.
03 Dec 2016, 2:32am
"I could try accessing Isaiah's slate, if you'd prefer. I just recommended yours because you already had Glaboski's files on it," Bloodfeather said with a hint of sheepishness. "He did tell me not to take liberties earlier."

"Now is the time to take liberties, Blood," Cait said. "If you have any nifty ideas about how to get around or into secure things, do so."

"You're sure?"

"Absolutely."

"Very well then."

Cait bit her lower lip, knowing full well that her decisions could either be the best option for getting Isaiah out, or the worst. She wanted to be safe rather than sorry. "Raising too much of a ruckus will bring too much attention from security. I don't want to, but we'll need to play it safe. Do you want to go in as part of the staff, or should I?"

"Just use mine if it's easier..." Lilith retorted, "It really doesn't matter."

They walked round a corner and the Medical Ward came into view. Looking around, Lilith spotted the alley she'd ditched the bag in. Grabbing Caits arm she pulled her into it, and promptly marched to the trash chute

"Neither of us are going in if the Trash System has been through it's evacuation cycle." She stated firmly, pulling the hatch open and leaning in she spotted it, the duffel bag.

"Good news, it's there. But grab my legs, it's a bit far down." She instructed Cait, "And trust me, I know how tempting it will be to let go... All I'll say is I've crawled through worse, and for much less."

"I'm sure," Cait deadpanned, doing as Lilith requested and holding on to her legs as she went in to retrieve the bag.

"So... Glaboski. What makes you think he'll be honest with you about what he did to you?" Cait hesitated, not sure if she should broach the subject, especially with someone she'd only just met and wasn't exactly on friendly terms with.
03 Dec 2016, 8:11pm
Lilith grunted and stretcged to reach the bag.

"Because... He..... Has..... Gods Sake..." She grunted, with a big stretch she hooked her fingers around the handle.

"PULL!!!" She shouted and groaned as the metal threshold scraped her stomach.

Unzipping the bag the contents were revealed, a large Lab coat and the ID she'd snagged from the passing Doctor. Holding the ID up she examined the picture and compared it to Cait.

"Because he has no reason to lie. If I put the images out there, people will assume the worst anyway." She replied flatly, "I'll have to go in with this. This picture looks nothing like you, at least the hair matches mine."

She ditched her trenchcoat again, stuffing it into the duffel bag. *Why do I bother wearing this thing for crying out loud* She grumped to herself, pulling on the Lab coat and rolling the sleeves up and tucking in the tail a bit to stop it dragging on the floor.
03 Dec 2016, 8:31pm
"If you say so," Cait replied.

She watched Lilith don the disguise, and the weight of what was happening began to settle in. This should have been nothing new, nothing she hadn't already done. She'd been in fights with the worst of the worst and she'd never felt as nervous as she did at that moment. Maybe it was knowing that Isaiah was being held in captivity by someone who could do terrible things to him.

Cait paced back and forth as she went over the plan in her mind.

"So what's the plan here? Bloodfeather runs the images on all the displays, you sneak in to confront Glaboski one-on-one, and I find Isaiah, right?"
03 Dec 2016, 9:41pm
"Well I was hoping by now Glaboski would have had the decency to answer his pad." Lilith sighed, "But if he's going to be impolite... Then yeah, whatever it takes to get his attention."

She put her arms out either side of her and gave a small twirl.

"How do I look?" She asked sarcastically, before acknowledging the question. "I'm going to his office and see if I can't get someone to drag him through to see me. At the very least, I might find someone who can tell me where he is, and Bloodfeather can pass that on to you."

Considering for a moment, the possibilities she felt the need to voice a potential outcome.

"If I find Isaiah first, I'm getting him out. I won't stick around. But if you find Glaboski first, give him a kick in the balls from me won't you?" She said with a smile, "There's no guarantee we'll each find our preferred... Ah... Target? So just make do with what we get. Don't make this complicated."
03 Dec 2016, 11:33pm
"Well, you look the part," Cait said of Lilith's appearance in the staff uniform. "I guess I'm supposed to say it suits you?" She allowed herself to smirk for a moment, then added: "I'll take a seat in the waiting room while you do your thing. I can't promise I won't Glaboski's legs... but I'll try to go easy on him if I find him first. And you should be careful as well. He managed to get Isaiah's guard down long enough to do... whatever it was he did to him. There's nothing to say he won't try it on you."

As they prepared to enter the ward, Caitlin stopped, holding up a hand to indicate to Lilith to wait.

"Bloodfeather? Are you ready to roll out the attention-getter?"

"Of course."

"Do it then."

"Starting my breach on the medical ward's network... and I'm in. I'm putting the images up on displays but getting into the camera feeds might take some time. We're good to go for now."

"Showtime," Cait said.
04 Dec 2016, 12:14am
"Isaiah was playing a part and it backfired. Me and the Doctor? There's no pretences there." Lilith said, self assuredly, "He'll be on guard, and so will I..."

Pausing for the all-clear to move in, she mentally prepared herself and took a breath.

"Just remember, you're an unknown. So if something happens, keep going." She said, a hint of concern lacing her voice, "Read into that what you must..." She added dismissively.

Once Cait annpounced time to go, Lilith held back a moment to allow her to get ahead, then followed through the main entrance. Maintaining an air of confidence as she strode purposefully through the busy corridoors looking for familiar territory that might lead her to Glaboskis office.
04 Dec 2016, 12:47am
Cait nodded her head and went into the ward, stopping to take in the surroundings and get her bearings. The waiting room was full, but there was an empty corner that had a good sight line on the foyer and the rest of the waiting room, and even offered a vantage point into the staff area.

That'll work.

She made her way into the living room, careful of her posture and mannerisms as she found a seat at the back, satisfied for the time being that she had found as good a position as any.

"I'm in place," she told Bloodfeather. "Let me know once you've got something."

"Will do. Did you get that, Lilith?"
04 Dec 2016, 1:28am
Lilith turned to a patient information board to disguise her response as self mutterings.

"Of course. But I need to maintain radio silence. Someone might very well recognise my face here and it certainly won't do me any favours to seem to be talking to myself." She mumbled quietly, while scanning her eyes for any possible mentions of Isaiah, "If I can't do something, I'll clear my throat loudly. Otherwise assume it's all good."

She knew it wasn't ideal. If she ended up in trouble, silence could be all they got. But the alternative was to be nattering away to herself, which would only draw attention to herself. Turning away from the board she spotted a sign leading towards a staff exit and opted to follow it in the hopes it was the same one she'd escaped through previously.
04 Dec 2016, 1:37am
"If you need help, let me know," Caitlin added quietly,

I can't believe I just offered to help her. Goddamnit Isaiah, why do you have to be such a fucking idealist?

As she sat alone in the corner, she turned her eyes to the viewscreen on the opposite wall, where some talk show was being played. Captions rolled along underneath the image of two political-looking types arguing about something.

YOU THINK THE FEDERATION AND THE EMPIRE HAVE BEEN WORKING TOGETHER TO CONCEAL THE TRUTH IN THE PLEIADES, AND YET YOU HAVE NOTHING TO SHOW FOR IT, one line of captions declared. Cait frowned.

Then the screen changed, and images from Lilith's datapad started to go by on the screen in a slideshow. Cait lowered her head, trying to ignore the feeling of apprehension that came with seeing them.

"Images should be rolling onto displays now," Bloodfeather said. "It's on you for now, Lilith."
