Elite roleplay: Citi Gateway

CITI GATEWAY

The Orbis station is a center of activity. Within the station a myriad of places can be found.
  • The Warrens: Where the poor plebs of the station live. It's is a breeding ground for the most unscrupulous. Keep an eye on your wallet when traversing the corridors of these areas.
  • Habitation Complex: For those workers and pilots that can afford it, this area provides closer to 1G gravity for more earth like living.
  • Commerce Divison: and Administration Where the larger corporations make their home. Station administration can be found here.
  • Industrial Complex: Where industry manufactures their various goods.
  • Entertainment: District Bars, theaters and night clubs, tattoo parlors and other establishments can be found vying for a commanders credits in exchange for a bit of fun.
  • Station Security: A high tech brig used to house law breakers until they can be tried, and or deported off station.
  • Medical Ward: Where commanders can get patched up, enhanced, or fix existing cybernetics.

General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

"Indeed, however, Dr. Globoski is not taking on any understudies at the moment, or at least to my knowledge...This is highly irregular doctor... Come with me." She said in a curt tone. "I am the floor nurse here. You can wait at the nurses station until all this gets resolved." She looked at the extended hand and shook it.

"Marie. Now come with me."

"As for Doctor Glaboski, He is in surgery."

Lilith thought for a brief moment.

"I'm sure it is highly irregular, but so is the creation of a new civilisation 22,000 Lightyears away." She said simply, "I'm sure the thinking behind it was probably something to do with his being a highly capable Surgeon who might be able to sign me off quickly without taking shortcuts."

She went to scratch her ear, deliberately tapping against the earpiece, hoping the noise created would get Bloodfeathers attention and she could get some acknowledgement on whether she'd heard Glaboskis location. Just in case she added.

"So, Glaboski is in surgery you say? Is it just a routine procedure or am I likely to be waiting for some time do you think?" She asked smiling, letting her hair fall over her ears again.
05 Dec 2016, 6:16pm
"Come with me." Marie asked once again. "We have rules and regulations here. So, I don't really care what is going on 22 thousand light years away." She nodded one. "Please." She said nodding once.
05 Dec 2016, 6:30pm
Lilith moved to follow the nurse, feeling a slight irritation at her dismissive attitude towards her questions.

"Well... Whether you care or not, I'd hope your job meant you have some compassion towards those that need help whether they're here, Achenar, Colonia or even Beagle Point..." She let the insinuated accusation hang for a moment before continuing, "But you didn't answer my question. I'm not looking for confidential details, just want to know if Glaboski is going to be out in minutes, or if I'll have time to grab some food before starting my shift properly?"

*And here's a prime example of why I hate so called 'authority figures'... Pompous sod she is* She thought to herself. Tempted to tell her as such but biting her tongue lest it cause an issue that attracted the wrong sort of attention.
05 Dec 2016, 6:36pm
"Would you shut up..." She hissed, leading Lilith to a small supply closet. She shoved Lilith into it and followed closing the door.
"Is it customary for doctors to carry firearms, now?" She said with a raise of her brow. "Your not some transfer, nor are you a doctor. I'm not stupid. Your after him..." She was wringing her hands. "It's the only reason why your waiting in his office, and I would very much like to see him get his just desserts. Are you the one displaying the images?"
she finished asking in hushed tones.

Instinctively, Lilith grabbed the arm of the nurse and twisted it around her back before pinning her against the wall.

"I've heard this sort of garbage before," She sneered. "No, I'm not a transfer, I'm not a Doctor and yes I'm after him. He currently has a... Friend... Of mine, and is doing god knows what to him as we speak."

Realising she'd mentioned giving Glaboski his 'Just Desserts' she released the nurses arm.

"Sorry... Force of habit... But you're going to have to give me a damn good reason to trust you. Or my, *ahem* standard issue firearm, might have to be discharged. I don't appreciate being thrown into a closet, and I've heard enough speeches about having 'mutual goals' in the past day or two to last me a lifetime." She lowered her hand, hovering it over her holster, but relaxed slightly nonetheless.

"Yes, that slideshow is my doing," She admitted, not wanting to admit to having accomplices, "But you're going to have to explain why you want him taken down, and don't expect me to confess my reasons afterwards."
05 Dec 2016, 7:02pm
The nurse brought up a shaky hand, In it was her pad. The stream of "Susan" images flicking through. She paused it on the third image, and turned it slowly to Lilith...

"A...about a year ago, I collapsed here at work. It...It was an aneurysm in the brain. He operated on me and I re....remember, like a dream, him doing something to me. He kept calling me Susan. I...I tried to talk about it. But I was silenced.

"I knew something had happened. I knew it, and now you've displayed it on all the monitors. My shame for everyone to see! How could you!" Her somber tone raising an octave. Her breathing becoming erratic. "I wan't to see him...fall. But you...you displaying those im.......He did it to you to!" she said as she started scrutinizing the Lilith "Susan" image...

"Good catch Lilith," Bloodfeather assured her. "Cait, Glaboski's in surgery with a patient. You'll need to be careful. If you can pinpoint the exact room, I should be able to override any locks, but it'll be up to you after that."

"Got it," Cait replied, turning down the corridor that led to surgery. Dark thoughts filled her mind, wondering what the implication meant - would she find Isaiah cut open, dissected? Or worse? She didn't know what kind of person Glaboski was; there was only what she knew from Lilith and what she could deduce from his dossier.

If he's in there, keep your distance...

As she entered the operating rooms, there was a sound she couldn't quite place - she thought it was a piece of machinery at first, but it didn't take long for her to realize that it was something primal and unfettered. It had to be...

Isaiah!

There was no one here - if there were, how could anyone possibly ignore the screaming? Cait rushed down the corridor, drawn by the sound, her stomach flipping and twisting into knots. It simply did not stop, and a mixture of fear and anger rose up in her throat. She came to the door the sound was coming from.

"Suite 12, Bloodfeather, and hurry up," Cait said.

"Can't do anything. The rooms aren't networked and I can't unlock it."

"Goddamnit!"

The doctor was monitoring the holographics when an indicator popped up. Somebody was trying to access the suite. He nodded and smiled. The magnetic seals were still in place.

"Looks like your friends have arrived. Well...Two options for me. Stick around, or leave..." He quickly set up a program to keep the amperage ramping up, then password protected the shutdown procedure. He tapped the screen. He then opened the stopcock full and blood started gushing into the beaker. The doctor turned and started towards the physician's access on the opposite side of the room leaving the probe in the mans head.. He stopped and turned. "Oh, by the way when that amperage reaches, say, 30 or so, you'll go into cephaltic shock....uh, simply, you'll be brain dead.

He made it to the opposite wall, called up the access panel, and unlocked both sets of doors slipping through, glad he had programmed the boards to show that he was in suite 12.

Lilith stood shocked as the nurse displayed the images to her. A myriad of emotions coursed through her, and she tried to hold them back but failed.

"Well your silence just let him carry on!! You got the images, but kept them to yourself!!" She quietly shouted at the Nurse, before changing tact.

"Sorry... Again.... It's not your shame, it's his, and if the prick would just have answered the damn calls we've been putting out to him..." She shushed, realising she'd just admitted to having counterparts but hoping she wouldn't notice.

"If you want to see him fall... Tell me where he is. I'll do the rest." She said in a calmer, more soothing tone, "I can't promise it will be justice through the appropriate authorities, but rest assured once I'm done, he'll not be continuing his hobby." She added.
05 Dec 2016, 8:33pm
The nurse was shaking "MY IMAGES? THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I'VE SEEN THEM YOU STUPID TART, THEY ARE DISPLAYING ON ALL THE PADS!" She was screaming. "I had no idea what he did to me until NOW!"

She took out a small keycard and threw it at Lilith. "According to the boards he is in surgical suite 12."

"He made me seem like I was insane. It was my job, or the loony bin. I have children." She said with a bitterness. "If your going to kill him..." She swallowed hard.

Cait pounded on the door, and as if on cue, it parted and opened. She drew her sidearm from concealment and caught sight of the man just as he was leaving the room.

"Lilith! He's moving! He just slipped out of surgery!" Her eyes turned to Isaiah, laying there, writhing and screaming and bleeding out into a beaker. She swore loudly and moved towards him, trying to figure out what was causing him to thrash like he was.

She drew closer and saw what was causing him to bleed out, and in one smooth motion she reached and closed the stopcock - but by then he'd already lost a considerable amount of blood. Then her eyes found the probe sticking out of the top of his skull. It was almost surreal, seeing something protruding from the top of his head.

Cait turned to the console and tried to access the console. She screamed in frustration when the password prompt appeared. "Goddamn him!" There was only one option if she wanted to save Isaiah's life.

What do I do? I could kill him if I just pull it out. But if I don't, he's going to die right in front of me...

By now Isaiah had passed out - from blood loss or worse, she couldn't say. She drew in a breath and steadied her hands, then took hold of the probe and slowly and methodically began to draw the probe straight back, trying to minimize the amount of movement. She bit her lip as hard as she could until the probe was fully out, and she dropped it to the floor.

Cait exhaled loudly, and now the tears started to form in her eyes. Ignoring the wound where Glaboski had bored into his skull, Cait circled the operating table and started to remove the restraints that held Isaiah down, stopping after she pulled the one from around his forehead. She checked for a pulse - fast, but faint.

"Lilith," she said quietly, barely above a whisper. "I've got Isaiah but he's not in good shape at all. Glaboski--" she stammered, stumbling over her words. "Just stop him."

She turned and checked over Isaiah's body for any other signs of malpractice.

"I've notified the medical staff of the situation," Bloodfeather said. "They're on their way to you now."

Cait said nothing in reply.
05 Dec 2016, 9:09pm
Lilith was dumbfounded...

"I... Was under the impression the images would only be sent to the wall monitors." She replied, some sympathy in her voice slipping through, "But... Thanks...." She added catching the keycard against her chest.

An uncharacteristic wave of affection passed over her and she found herself hugging the nurse.

"This is going to be over soon. One way or another. I promise" she whispered, pushing herself away from her she added, "Stay here for a few minutes, compose yourself, get back to work... Just stay out of it no matter what."

With that, she returned to her detached self and turned to leave the closet. Donning her 'professional' composure she left the closet and scanned for directions to the Surgical Suites. As soon as she saw a sign, she set off at an almost sprinting pace. No longer caring about appearing insane she was about to contact Bloodfeather when Caits voice called out in her ear.

*Good... One down, one to go* She thought, maintaining her indifference towards Isaiahs condition.

"Directions!!! What way did he go Cait???" Lilith spat, a bit more aggressively than intended but was more concerned with Glaboski slipping through her fingers than Caits feelings. She was closing in on the Surgical Suites but was prepared to change course the instant it became necessary.
05 Dec 2016, 9:17pm
"He went out through an assistant's entrance, I don't know where he went after that," Cait said, voice low. Medical staff arrived and pushed her away from Isaiah as they started working on him, trying to determine the full extent of what Glaboski had done to him.

She could only stand by and watch, but as she came to grips with what was happening, anger started to rise up again. Her characteristic determination took hold, and she made her way out of the surgical suite the way Glaboski had left, trying to follow even though she was certain that she was minutes behind now.

"I'm on the move again, I'll try to help," she said. "Blood, you keep your eyes peeled."

"Of course."

She clenched her fists, striding with purpose, focusing on her anger to keep herself from breaking down over the prospect of losing Isaiah to a maniac's sick idea of "medicine."
05 Dec 2016, 9:19pm
Dr. Glaboski was walking down the rear access hallway, reserved for quick access to doctors and the like. He saw the door for surgical suite 12 pass by. He had no intention of going in there. He was using it as a rouse to make it look like he was preoccupied there. He turned a corner, pushed through some sealed doors, turned another corner and brushed into Lilith. Without stopping he gave his apologies and kept walking until he was at a nurses station. He stepped behind the circular desk and started engaging one of the nurses in conversation.

"What's going on? There is a medical alert in 16?" He asked.
"Yes Doctor,"  the nurse said. "According to the boards, its unoccupied. They have sent a med team just in case..."
"Ah, well if the board is mistaken, the attending physician can handle it."
"How was your surgery?" She asked.
"Oh, a piece of cake. The patient has been moved down to recovery. They got him taken care of."
"I don't know what we would do without you doctor." She beamed.
