Elite roleplay: Citi Gateway

CITI GATEWAY

The Orbis station is a center of activity. Within the station a myriad of places can be found.
  • The Warrens: Where the poor plebs of the station live. It's is a breeding ground for the most unscrupulous. Keep an eye on your wallet when traversing the corridors of these areas.
  • Habitation Complex: For those workers and pilots that can afford it, this area provides closer to 1G gravity for more earth like living.
  • Commerce Divison: and Administration Where the larger corporations make their home. Station administration can be found here.
  • Industrial Complex: Where industry manufactures their various goods.
  • Entertainment: District Bars, theaters and night clubs, tattoo parlors and other establishments can be found vying for a commanders credits in exchange for a bit of fun.
  • Station Security: A high tech brig used to house law breakers until they can be tried, and or deported off station.
  • Medical Ward: Where commanders can get patched up, enhanced, or fix existing cybernetics.

General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

Lilith kept running towards the Surgical Suite narrowly avoiding a collision with a Doctor, barely registering his apology but glancing at him nonetheless. She took a few more steps down the corridoor before skidding to a halt.

*Wait... I've seen him before...* she turned in time to see the Doctor conversing politely with one of the nurses. *Gotcha*

She kept her back to him, listening to the conversation, standing at one of the many handwashing sinks as an excuse to stop, activating the water flow she mumbled to Bloodfeather.

"Eyes on target. Cait, if you want to stay with Isaiah, fine. Either way it's up to you." She said turning off the water and drying her hands as the Doctors conversation ended.
05 Dec 2016, 10:59pm
Dr. Glaboski pulled out a chair at the nurses station and accessed a terminal. He looked up at a red indicator light. Something serious was going on in suite 16. He had taken it too far this time and he knew it. His heart started beating hard. If he was found out, he could get life in prison. Possibly execution.

All this because I wanted my revenge... He picked up his pad and pushed away from the chair. "I'll be in my office." He walked away from the nurses station towards the offices. His pace was brisk and thought about collecting a keepsake, but decided that he needed to disappear. His career was now over. He passed it, and headed for a set of stairs. Quickly descending the steps he pushed out from a door, turned and slipped out the medical ward into the busy station.

He quickly turned into a busy walkway with merchants selling their wares. The noise of haggling filled the air. He didn't stop. He made his way to an inter-station transport stop.
05 Dec 2016, 11:48pm
Lilith followed in pursuit, she'd stuck nearby while Glaboski accessed the nurses terminal and when he mentioned going to his office she'd felt elated at the possibility of having him cornered at last. Unfortunately the bastard had opted to flee the Medical Ward instead, and as Lilith descended the staircase and appeared onto a busy street she realised following him was going to become very tricky indeed.

She threw the labcoat down, knowing it was no use to her here and made her way out into the street, following the best she could.

"Bloodfeather, Cait, he's left the hospital. He's either got a hidey hole somewhere or he's leaving the... WATCH IT ASSHOLE!!!" She yelled as a man thumped into her, nearly knocking her off her feet. In that brief moment, she lost sight of her quarry.

She picked up her pace, infuriated now that he was within her grasp and yet so far away.

"Bloodfeather, security feed, now! Track him and predict possible destinations." She didn't know how far Bloodfeathers capabilities stretched, didn't care either, she would demand the computer sent a sun Supernova if she thought it would help, "Cait, get to Bloodfeather ASAP!!! If you want Glaboski we need to cover his escape. As long as he's not on a ship, he's on the station." Her voice was demanding and angry the entire time.

Stopping at a junction, she debated heading to her own ship, the Spearhead, or checking out the nearby Transport Stop in case he was trying to book passage out.

"In fact... Bloodfeather... Any chance you can post a stationwide bounty on him?" She asked with a sneer. Grinning at the... Was it irony?? Well... She grinned at the twist nonetheless.
06 Dec 2016, 1:35am
"Okay, I'll get to Bloodfeather and be ready to scramble if he leaves the station," Cait said, changing her heading and working her way back to the lift up to the docks. She hated to leave Isaiah behind, but there wasn't anything else she could do for him in that moment - and sitting there, wallowing in fear and sadness over what might happen was not like her.

She had something to focus on in that moment.

"I'm searching for Glaboski right now," Bloodfeather said, having withdrawn from the medical ward's network and back into the station. "I've already taken the liberty of notifying station authorities of the problem, but as far as a bounty goes... well, how much were you thinking of putting up on him?"
06 Dec 2016, 2:00am
"I don't care... Pick a big number!!!" Lilith practically yelled. Knowingly pissing off a bounty hunter by  witholding payment wasn't a good idea, especially with bounties of her own, but desperate times and all that... She'd cross that bridge if she came to it. That said, she had several million Credits in her account already, so she didn't anticipate there being a problem, "Link payment to my account if you can. Cait, you feel free to chip in. This is really just to get people looking for him. The more people searching, the harder forhim to escape."

With Cait heading to the Bloodfeather, Lilith decided the best thing she could do was follow the next logical escape route for the Doctor, the Transport Stop nearby. A thought struck her as she approached the doorway.

"See if you can't make the bounty at least look official. People pay more heed to Security Bounties than Private ones I find..." She said, speaking from personal experience, "Oh and what exactly have you told the authorities?? I'd rather get some one on one time with him and that won't happen if he's locked up in a damn cell..."
06 Dec 2016, 2:30am
"Only that there is a missing person with a history of mental illness on the loose, and that should they apprehend him, to keep him in holding until his family can arrive to take care of him," Bloodfeather said, rather confidently. "Family, of course, being his dear daughter and niece. Similarly, I've placed the bounty on the local security board as well, describing the same sort of situation. One million credits. Should be going up shortly."
06 Dec 2016, 3:03am
*Ouch... One Million??* Lilith thought. *A smuggling job or two should cover that if needed... But still...*

"Fair enough..." She said. But she was stuck. Standing right outside the entrance to the Transport Stop she was at a loss with what to do.

Barge in, fire her gun in the air and demand the attention or location of Glaboski? Even if he was in there, she'd only have moments before Station Security arrived and then it would be her leaving in cuffs. Maybe Glaboski too, if Bloodfeathers story was convincing enough. But then, both of them being arrested wouldn't get her or Cait what they wanted.

But then, she couldn't exactly just walk in and pretend she was buying a ticket. If the Doctor was at the front of even a moderately long queue. He'd be long gone before she could even reach the desk, or automated terminals.

*FUCK!!!* For the first time in her life, she was at a loss over what to do, and she hated it. She'd had to make decisions over whether to release a captive or not, even whether to fight a wing of multiple fighters or try to flee. Yet walking through a door to a public place had her completely frozen.

"Blood? Cait? I... What do... I don't" She was at a loss for words. The thrill of the chase overridden by worry over what the Doctor would say to her about what happened. Adrenaline, completely negated by fear. Her usual stoic and hardened resolve, wiped out by indecision and panic.

She fell against the wall, the automatic door sliding open after sensing her movement, but she made no move to enter. Instead sliding down and sitting on the floor, shaking and fighting back tears she managed to squeak out one word.

"Help..."
06 Dec 2016, 3:36am
Dr. Glaboski border the 119 interstation transport when it arrived with a half a dozen other people. The bus like vehical was packed with other commuters. The thing closed it doors and pulled away, heading off onto a vehical ramp entering a tunnel to the deeper portions of the station. Glaboski knew they would find his apartment in the habitation complex. He needed to get clothes, and credits, but he needed to stay in a mob of people. He had to get off the station. Some luxury transport or cruise liner would work, but he needed his money. He decided to take the bus like vehical to the commerce division, find a bank and get his credits transfered into a new account.
06 Dec 2016, 9:32am
"Lilith, calm down," Cait said, stepping onto the lift back to the docking bay. "Take a breath. Focus. I know you're worried that he's going to escape but if he's heading for a tram back to the residential area, he's not getting off this station yet. Bloodfeather is working through the routine of pinpointing him, but until she does, you need to take a breath."

Easy for you to say. It's all you can do to not fall apart.

She took a deep breath herself, then added. "I'm just as invested in getting this bastard as you are, but for a different reason I'm sure. He... he was doing something to Isaiah and I don't know what it was, but... I've never heard a human being make the sounds he was making." She pressed the heel of her palm to her forehead and exhaled shakily. "We're going to get him. But we're doing this by the book."
06 Dec 2016, 5:13pm
*By the book... Wonderful...* She thought to herself. Yet, somehow, Lilith found Caits words helpful. Probably because she was in a very public place and there really wasn't much alternative. With that thought, she pulled herself up off the ground and entered the Transport Stop. A quick scan revealed the Doctor wasn't there.

"He's not here. Can't tell if he's left via transport or if he was never here. Bloodfreather? Any luck?" She asked, a hint of worry still underlining her tone. She was in danger of losing it completely, needing answers desperately or Glaboskis wish to have her locked up in Psychiatric Containment could very well come true.

After this was over, she was taking a break from her regular life. Knowing full well it could cause her to lose the trail she'd been chasing for months but in desperate need of a respite. But how did one relax when all she'd known is the pursuit?

"Cait, I know you want nothing more than to put a bullet in my skull but..." She took a breath and continued before she could change her mind, "Do you fancy going for a drink once this is all over?"
06 Dec 2016, 7:45pm
Dr. Glaboski deboarded the 119 in the Commerce division. He walked the corridors towards an impressive building. A bank. He pushed open the doors.
Great Lines he thought to himself. He plunged his hands into his pockets and stood in the queue. He pulled out his pad and started looking for a liner to charter.
06 Dec 2016, 10:41pm
"Yeah. A drink doesn't sound like a bad idea. Could use one or two of them right about now," Cait said as the lift doors closed.

"There are a lot of faces to work through in the terminal," Bloodfeather said. "It might be better to focus on areas with less foot traffic - so the docking bay, residential areas such as parks and pedestrian-only areas. The problem we face is that we have no clear idea of where he intends to go - except off the station."

"Then maybe we should start by seeing where he's staying at. Does he have a home here?"

"Station security is preparing to move on it."

"Bank accounts?"

"Not a good idea to try and tap into that."

"Are you saying it's impossible or just a bad idea?"

"Both. You've never seen counter-intrusion software until you've had it track you down and put you into safe mode. And we don't want that. It was bad enough trying to get into the medical ward's systems without being traced. The Bank of Zaonce doesn't play around."

As the lift doors opened and Cait stepped back out, she made a beeline back to pad 33. "If push comes to shove and Glaboski gets off the station in a ship, we'll go and intercept him. Chances are security is going to step things up to catch him if they're indeed looking. Right now the best option might be to wait and let him come back to us."
07 Dec 2016, 8:44am
"If he leaves aboard a transport ship as a passenger, how will we know he's aboard?" Lilith replied, "He didn't become a Surgeon by fluke... He's smart. He'll be sticking to large groups until he absolutely can't any longer.... Actually I just had an Idea."

Ignoring complaints and yells at her, Lilith pushed her way to the front terminal and approached the bespectacled old lady working the terminal.

"Uhh.. Excuse me, you need to wait y....." She began to say.

"I'm just needing a list of the transports that have left in the past 10-15 minutes. I've lost my little cousin, he might be aboard one of them" Lilith interrupted.

The lady gave her a stern look over the top of her glasses, no doubt judging her for losing the imaginary child, but quickly entered a few keys on the computer and pulled up a list.

"Lets see, we've had the 316, the 119 and the 054" She read off the screen.

"And what routes do they follow?" Lilith asked.

"The 316 is more for tourists, so hotels, entertainment, that sorta thing. The 119 goes to the Commerce Division, banks, lawyers you get the idea. The 054 is for the Habitation Complex" Said the lady.

"Great, thanks!!" Lilith said, turning and leaving the stop.

"Does that narrow it down a bit for you Bloodfeather?" She said as she entered the streets again, "You might need to scrub through footage from earlier and try to chase him that way. Easy enough right?"
07 Dec 2016, 10:19am
"That's going to take some time, but I'll get on it," Bloodfeather said.

"Which one led to the commerce district? 119, was it? Try that one first," Cait added. "He's probably sharp enough to know that if he goes straight back to his home, he'll get caught for sure. If I were going to make a break for it, I'd make a withdrawal of credit vouchers so my account activity can't be traced and I'd buy what I needed as I was making my way out."

"Will do. Pulling up feeds now, I'll let you know once I find something."
07 Dec 2016, 2:03pm
Dr. Glaboski worked quickly as the line in the bank dwindled. He filtered through travel destinations on his pad.
no, not this one, I don't like skiing... he looked at another...hmm, this destination is 7 days of mock paramilitary training. No thanks......Jungle excursion.....Ah, enjoy pristine beaches and total relaxation aboard a pleasure cruise. And it debarks in a few hours, just my luck! The Pōmaikaʻi. he filled out the information. Passenger name, Herbert Glaboski....Sex, male.... Occupation, physician

"Sir?" The tellers voice brought him back to reality.
"Oh, sorry" he said as he approached the counter.
"What can I do to help?"
"I'd like a complete withdrawal of my account.. "
"Very well...."

With an exchange of information Dr. Glaboski walked out the bank with all of his assets in pocket. He stood in line for another interstation tram. The 011, heading for the docks, the warrens and the entertainment district. The vehicle stopped, unloaded some passengers, and he got on with a slew of others.
