Elite roleplay: Citi Gateway

CITI GATEWAY

The Orbis station is a center of activity. Within the station a myriad of places can be found.
  • The Warrens: Where the poor plebs of the station live. It's is a breeding ground for the most unscrupulous. Keep an eye on your wallet when traversing the corridors of these areas.
  • Habitation Complex: For those workers and pilots that can afford it, this area provides closer to 1G gravity for more earth like living.
  • Commerce Divison: and Administration Where the larger corporations make their home. Station administration can be found here.
  • Industrial Complex: Where industry manufactures their various goods.
  • Entertainment: District Bars, theaters and night clubs, tattoo parlors and other establishments can be found vying for a commanders credits in exchange for a bit of fun.
  • Station Security: A high tech brig used to house law breakers until they can be tried, and or deported off station.
  • Medical Ward: Where commanders can get patched up, enhanced, or fix existing cybernetics.

General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

*Fuck sake, I was hoping they'd just use the actual Susan* Lilith thought to herself as she caught the images scrolling on a nearby screen. It wasn't hard to feign a surprised expression given that she knew what was coming.

Thankfully the signs she was following were indeed to the same exit. Now she just needed to retrace her steps back towards Glaboskis office. Maybe there would be a hint there that would lead her to wherever Glaboski was, maybe even Isaiah. Failing that, she was fairly certain an attempt to open his personal computer terminal would signal his Datapad directly where Bloodfeather had failed.

Not that she suspected that was Bloodfeathers fault. No doubt the Doctor was too engrossed in whatever he was doing. Probably a patient emergency... She hoped. Wait... No she didn't.... What did she care about Isaiah? It was his own naivity that got him into this... Then again, it was that same trait that meant she was strolling the Medical Ward corridoors and not under Glaboskis thumb.

*For crying out loud. What is it about him that's got under my skin... Bloody git so he is!* She chastised him and herself mentally.

"Blood, if the worst-case scenario... happens, can you fly back to Prism?" Cait asked solemnly. It wasn't a thought she wanted to entertain, but there was no point in trying to ignore it. Bloodfeather was more than just a ship - it was an extension of her pilot, a part of him. Leaving it behind wasn't an option for her. She didn't want to leave her own ship behind - she had a bond of her own with it - but she would not leave Bloodfeather behind.

"... I can, if I must. I cannot fight, but I can find my own way home if the circumstances call for it," Bloodfeather replied.

"I just want to be sure. I'm not leaving you here. I'm not going to have some two-bit ship salesman put you on the market."

"I'm merely a ship. More specifically I'm a shipboard computer with an interface that allows me to vaguely emulate human traits. I don't feel any particular bond to Isaiah, or you, or Lilith. I can never empathize with you even though I may seem like I do."

"It's not you - well, it is, but not your programming. You're a part of him, an expression of his creativity and skill. And if... the unimaginable happens, I want to keep that part of him. Do you understand that?"

"I think so."

"You're just saying that, aren't you?"

"... Yes." Bloodfeather sounded remorseful, even though Cait knew it was impossible for it to feel anything like remorse, or sadness, or fear. - all the emotions she was feeling at that moment. It was a machine, and the knowledge of that fact brought Cait no comfort.

"You should focus on the moment, Cait," Bloodfeather continued. "Thinking two or three steps ahead is my job. You just focus on doing what you can in the here and now."

"Yeah," Cait said, exhaling a shaky breath. "I know. You're right."

*Case number 453 why I keep to myself* Lilith thought sarcastically as she listened to the exchange between the two.

She'd had to double back several times, growing slightly frustrated at the abundance of samey looking corridoors. Last time, she had just been looking for any Doctors office, this time she was looking for a specific nametag 'Dr. Glaboski' which proved to be more of a hinderance than a help as she found herself at yet another dead end.

"Shit!" She swore, under her breath. Unfortunately a passing nurse heard her.

"Everything ok, Doctor...?" Asked the Man

"Umm yeah... It's my first day here and all these corridoors look the same to me... I was told to go and see Dr Glaboski? He's supposed to be my, uhh" *Crap.. What's the word...* "Well... He's supposed to be my attending Doctor until I get my bearings... You know how it is..." She rattled off as sheepishly as she could.

The Male nurse eyed her for a moment, long enough that Lilith was convinced she was rumbled. She tensed up ready to silence him if he began to call but fortunately he responded.

"He's in with a patient just now last I heard. I can take you to his office if you like?" He said smoothly.

"A patient? Well... I mean... If he's busy I can always go there... Where's that?" She asked hopefully. It very well could be Isaiah.

"I would... But he's even asked for privacy from the staff here. Drug case or something. Doesn't want to seem threatening..." He replied.

"Oh... Ok... His office will be fine then. But can you tell him Ms Doe is here, or he might have been told it's Janet? I want to get started quickly..." She said. *Non threatening my ass... That has to be Isaiah he's with*

"Will do. Follow me." The Nurse said cheerfully as he indicated to start following him.

She kept her head down slightly as they passed a few monitors, still vying for Glaboskis attention with his slide show, hoping the Nurse wouldn't spot the similarities between her and the pictures. A few corners later she was stood outside Glaboskis office. Lights off like last time, giving Lilith a big sense of Dejá Vu. She tried the handle, and to her surprise the door was unlocked. *Arrogant Prick... Obviously isn't expecting lightening to strike twice*

"I'll wait inside. No need to clutter up the busy halls is there?" Lilith said politely. Just as she turned to smile at him she spotted the monitor behind him flick to her image. A fleeting moment of panick struck through her as the nurse went to turn around and she did the only thing she could think of to distract him.

She kissed him.

Not a full on the lips kiss, just a peck on the cheek, but it was enough to catch him by surprise and he turned back to her staring sheepishly and turning red.

"Uhh... I.... Wha?" He stuttered.

"For being so nice... Sorry, that was unprofessional of me... But I guess technically I haven't started yet" She mumbled, stalling for previous seconds to stop him turning around before the image changed.

"No, it's fine... Just... Well, not that you're not attractive... I just... I have a boyfriend...." He spluttered.

"Oh... Sorry... Won't happen again... You'll have to introduce me sometime" Breathing a mental sigh of relief as the image swapped over, "I'll uh... I'll just be in here." She said as she quickly slid in the door and fumbled for a light.

She briefly popped her head back out the door, but unfortunately the nurse was lost in the sea of greens, blues and whites. So she popped back in, flicked the light back off and took a seat in the office chair by the computer.

"I'm in position. He can't escape our attention now. I have staff going to fetch him directly. Can we stop the slideshow now? Already had a close call..." She whispered to Bloodfeather.

"Can do. Stopping now." Bloodfeather immediately stopped the slideshow, returning the viewscreen in the waiting room back to the originally scheduled program.

ON THIS EPISODE OF MYSTERIOUS MYSTERIES OF THE FRONTIER, THE TEAM INVESTIGATES REPORTS OF A THARGOID EGG IN THE QUINCE SYSTEM.

The screen was filled with what was very clearly a repainted "leathery egg," with glowing bits and what appeared to be holographic specks of light fluttering about it.

WHERE DID YOU FIND THIS? one investigator asked a balding man in oversized glasses.
IN A DUMPSTER BEHIND A SPACEPORT. I SWEAR IT TALKED TO ME.

"Please, Gods, change the channel will you Blood?" Cait whined. "I can't even hear what's being said and I want to throw myself out the nearest airlock."

The channel changed to a broadcast of null-g football, and she sighed. "Thousands of star systems with potentially millions of channels and shows, and there still isn't anything good on."

"This seems like a very poor use of my resources," Bloodfeather chided.

"Yes. Yes it is," Cait said sourly, turning her thoughts to Lilith. "Anything yet?"
04 Dec 2016, 1:16pm
"I'm going to wait and see if the Doctor shows up." Lilith replied, unclipping her gun holster and placing the weapon on her side of the terminal. If anyone were to peer in, they'd simply see her sat in the chair stretched out. Giving the controls a shuffle to close the screensaver, she was hit with a password protected login.

The username was automatically filled in, but naturally the password was blank. A quick search around the desk provided no clues, which didn't bother her since she had no need to actually log onto the terminal. She was counting on there being a link between the Doctors personal datapad and his private terminal, one that would provide an alert should one be logged into by a third party, or fail to be logged into.

"If he doesn't, I'm just going to play on his computer. Bloodfeather, can you see if there's a security system attached to the terminal? Just let me know if failed login attempts will alert security or just Glaboski." She asked politely, "Cait? It might be worth you making your way through the hospital now. See if you can't get a visitors pass or something."

Thinking back she tried to recall a name from the patients board.

"Say you're visiting a Harold Christoph. He's in the Minor Trauma Unit for a sprained wrist and ankle." She said, "That should get you passed reception. Glaboski is dealing with... A patient... But he's insisted on complete privacy. You know what he looks like, if you see him, track wherever he came from... the rest is up to you." She finished by giving directions to Glaboskis office, just in case.
04 Dec 2016, 2:09pm
"Okay, I'm going," Cait said, rising to her feet. She slowly moved past the others in the waiting room, heading for the reception desk. A pair of nurses bantered back and forth as she approached. One of them held up a finger to her, telling her to wait.

Cait bristled slightly as the two nurses continued to talk. She cleared her throat, and one of them rolled her eyes.

"Can I help you, ma'am?" Eyes said.

"Hi, I'm here to see Harold Christoph. I'm a colleague of his."

"Oh, that guy? Hurt his wrist and ankle, right? Came in here hollering like a little baby." The nurse shook her head. "You'd think someone might have hacked his limbs off or something."

"Ha. Yeah. He's a bit of a--"

"Wuss?"

"Not the word I was going to use, but certainly more polite."

The nurse cracked a grin.

"Okay. Sign in for me and I'll get you a pass."

Cait took a nearby stylus and signed off on the inlaid display on the desk, using an alias. Kariss Errin. Now that's a name I haven't used in a while.

The nurse handed her the pass, and Cait hooked it to the lapel of her shirt, nodding curtly to the nurse.

"Minor Trauma is down the hall. Hang a left at the second hallway and it'll be on your right."

"Thanks," Cait said, giving a little wave before heading in the direction of the MTU. "Okay, I'm on the move."
04 Dec 2016, 5:40pm
"Good. I don't know if that Nurse will definitely get hold of Glaboski, so Bloodfeather, keep pestering him. If it comes to it, I can still annoy his computer." Lilith said relaxing into the chair, "We know he's a surgeon so I'd assume he's in Surgery. That's my suggestion anyway. But you can always ask around, say he was a surgeon on a friend of yours and they had some enquiries. They usually refer you to the specific Doctor that performed the surgery in those cases."

She could get used to this. Sitting back, communicating with, and coordinating other crew members in what to do. Of course, there was very little chance of her taking a 'sit and watch' approach. She enjoyed the thrill of the fight too much... Then again... It was just a pipe dream really. The Federation wouldn't touch her, the Empire wanted her dead by this point. Maybe the Alliance?

*Pfft... Focus Lilith... You haven't needed anyone before now, so no reason to change that...* She scolded herself.

She had several 'crew members' already. But they were simply brutes she called on when she needed a show of force. People frequently scoffed at her short stature and slight appearance and it helped to occasionally have a disposable bodyguard or two for those occasions. Of course, they were nowhere near this system and besides, this wasn't a time for a show of force, this was subterfuge.

"Just keep me posted, I'm prepared to start typing random crap into this terminal whenever it's needed... Of course, that's if it's only going to alert Glaboski and only him... Don't particularly need to be acquainted with security... Again...." She said simply.
05 Dec 2016, 1:27am
Marie, the floor nurse opened the door to Dr. Glaboski's office. She didn't see Lilith sitting in the chair, until she looked up from her pad.

Taken back she asked. "Excuse me? What are you doing in here?"  Her hand holding the pad fell to her side. She was plump little thing with aggressively chopped black hair.

Meanwhile, Dr. Glaboski held the probe with his left hand. In his right, he switched out a feed to the probe.
"Well," he said, "I don't suppose that you arn't going to give me anymore details. It doesn't really matter...." He looked up at a monitor.

"Finish the rhyme." He instructed Isaiah. "Georgie Porgie pudding pie...." He pressed an indicator on the display terminal which charged the probe with a small amount of amperage of electrical charge. He studied a holographic image of what would be the man's brain.
05 Dec 2016, 2:25am
Isaiah laughed nervously, swallowing hard. "Gee Doc, that's... that's hard to do when you have a fucking metal rod in my fucking brain." He clenched his fists, his hardened facade starting to crack under the uncertainty of what was being done to him. He couldn't stop thinking about the fact that there was someone rooting around in his skull, against his will, with all sorts of unknown intentions. As hard as he tried not to show it, the fear was beginning to get to him.

"What are you doing to me?" he finally asked, unable to keep his thoughts from running away from him.
05 Dec 2016, 2:42am
The good doctor made a small snort. "We already established what I am doing.....Testing a theory, though this procedure shouldn't affect your memory." The doctor chuckled once. "That would defeat the purpose of teaching you a lesson, if you can't remember it." He offered that same sweet smile as before. His one hand still on the probe, the other on the holographic display. He increased the amperage by another 20 microamperes.

"Again, finish the rhyme. Georgie Porgie pudding pie....." He said in his same soft voice monitoring the brain output.

A visual paging showed up on the display. Some Janet Doe was requesting his presence. He gave another slight chuckle, but said nothing.

05 Dec 2016, 4:22am
Lilith looked up at the entrance as the nurse entered.

"Oh, I was told that Dr Glaboski was to be my Attending Doctor while I get my bearings here." She responded politely, "A nurse directed me to his office since he's apparently busy with a patient so I came and sat inside to keep out of the way in the corridoors."

She moved to slide her hand up and retrieve the gun from her side of the computer terminal, keeping the movement slow and deliberate so as not to draw attention to it. As she moved the weapon onto her lap she continued talking to distract her.

"Do you know if he's going to be long? I was kinda hoping to get started soon..." She added with a smile. Sliding the gun into it's holster while gently turning side to side in the desk chair.
05 Dec 2016, 10:03am
"You know what, fuck you. Fuck your shitty fucking nursery rhyme, you prick!" Without a second's hesitation he began screaming and swearing profusely, pulling at his restraints but unable to break free. He couldn't move his head, but he was straining and giving voice to full-throated anger and hatred. "I'll fucking kill you! I'll tear out your goddamn throat!"

There was no coherent thought running through his mind, the only thing he felt in that moment was pure, unadulterated rage. His heart pounded in his chest, his muscles burned with exertion as he tried in vain to break free of his restraints and wrap his hands around Glaboski's throat. All thoughts of fear were completely banished from his mind - he only wanted one thing: to kill Dr. Glaboski.
05 Dec 2016, 4:03pm
The doctor had been expecting the violent outburst and smiled.
"You know, your friend just had somebody page me...." He said. "I'm inclined to finish with you first.... The Lamina Quadrigemina has been stimulated at 22.1 micro-amperes. Good, very good. Lets add just a few more amperes and see how angry I can really make you..... "

Glaboski dialed up a few more microampers, and went back to monitoring the brain.
05 Dec 2016, 5:35pm
Marie looked the woman over. "Attending doctor while you get your bearings here? Are you new?" She pulled up her pad and took a look at it. "I wasn't told there were new hires, and it didn't come up in the meeting this morning....I'm afraid you will have to come with me, Miss, Doctor?"
05 Dec 2016, 5:50pm
"Must've slipped through. It was a last minute transfer from Cleve Hub Institute of Medicinal Teaching. I'm just here until he signs me off as competent then I'm being shipped off to Colonia..." Lilith rattled off smooth as silk. Surprising herself at her sudden improvisational skills.

As she stood up from the desk she used the pretence of adjusting her lab coat properly to glance at the ID tag pinned to her lapel. It was one thing to send a Nurse off searching for Glaboski with the nane Janet Doe, but she was under no pretences that this Nurse wouldn't look at the tag on her coat.

"It's Doctor Cartwright," She said, rising from her chair and extending her hand in greeting, "Where are we headed then umm... Sorry, I didn't catch your name?"
