Elite roleplay: Citi Gateway

CITI GATEWAY

The Orbis station is a center of activity. Within the station a myriad of places can be found.
  • The Warrens: Where the poor plebs of the station live. It's is a breeding ground for the most unscrupulous. Keep an eye on your wallet when traversing the corridors of these areas.
  • Habitation Complex: For those workers and pilots that can afford it, this area provides closer to 1G gravity for more earth like living.
  • Commerce Divison: and Administration Where the larger corporations make their home. Station administration can be found here.
  • Industrial Complex: Where industry manufactures their various goods.
  • Entertainment: District Bars, theaters and night clubs, tattoo parlors and other establishments can be found vying for a commanders credits in exchange for a bit of fun.
  • Station Security: A high tech brig used to house law breakers until they can be tried, and or deported off station.
  • Medical Ward: Where commanders can get patched up, enhanced, or fix existing cybernetics.

General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

The atmosphere in the station was filled with a smell of trouble...

At least to Simon Comrie, Who was walking around trough the station.

What was supposed to be a few evening strolls around the station to unwind him had instead sharpened his senses to have him lured deeper and deeper into the station, Subconciously looking down every corner and alley, and examining every face he ran into.
Like that, He had spotted a handfull of pickpockets and malicious drug-carriers, and tipped the a few local undercover security agents off to their presence. But it didn't help. He was still on heightened awareness...

Suddenly he noticed a couple sitting amongst the crowd in a cozy little bistro.

A young woman, and an older Doctor.

The woman seemed rather uneasy. Not only because she was conspiculously ill-dressed in comparison to everyone else in the bistro. But also a little towards her company, the Doctor. Wich was contrasted even more by the man himself seeming a little too confident.
As if the man had a plan, and it was going very well...

His focus immediatly snapped to the couple. And he began making his way a little closer to the couple, slowly walking towards them in a faint curve.

He had forgotten about his surroundings, and had stopped being carefull for avoiding his "target" noticing it was being observed. A trait he had often been corrected for..

His senses were telling him the doctor had malicious intends. And his instincts were driving him to let the man notice he knew.

"Fight me, creep!"

"Ah, Comrie!"
A man, sitting on a table nearby, with his back towards him, called out.
"We have a few issues to attend to. I was hoping you could join me, so we could settle them right here."

Antonov Borya said, while browsing trough the menu.

"Please, sit!" He waved his hand towards the chair at the other side of the table, and called a waitress...
22 Mar 2017, 9:14pm
Comrie was startled by the officer's sudden appearance.

"Eh, Yes sir."

He nervously sat down and took off his jacket, revealing a red checked shirt, neatly tucked under his jeans.

"I'll have a dry white wine please..." He said to the waitress.

"And the appetiser?" The waitress asked...

"Uhh, can you make it a carpaccio salad, please?" He said nervously.
23 Mar 2017, 5:04am
Glaboski hadn't noticed they were being spied upon. He continued on with his date.

The waiter returned and poured each of them a glass of the white wine. Glaboski raised it delicately and slightly towards the woman.

"To distractions!" he said with a twinkle in his eye as he clinked his glass against hers. "And such a lovely one at that. You know, I jest. But as they say, all work and no play makes one quite dull, so I welcome your company." he finished before taking a sip. "But really, what about you? Where are you from. What do you fly? What got you into this business?"

The waiter placed leather backed menus in front of them. Glaboski ignored it for the time being. His attention was on the girl. He set the glass down again, folding his long slender surgeon fingers as he leaned slightly forward.
25 Mar 2017, 1:04am
Thank God it's white. She hated wine. They clinked glasses as Claire held back a sweat thinking she had done it too hard or loud. Her face refusing to grimace at the bitter kick. She set the glass down gently, watching the Doctor as he spoke and nodded. "I'm glad I could pull you out of work for a moment then." she chuckled.

"..me? Uh.." She blinked away, scanning the crowd. "I come from Adad, has an earth-like. My father let me borrow his Cobra three to run around in so... I mostly explore." If Maia and the ruins counted as one. She pushed back a thought and spited a part of her. "I do some voluntary work here and there, nothing exciting." Not for you anyway. Her demeanor shifted to a whiff of elation.
25 Mar 2017, 10:48am
Officer Borya had been killing the time a bit with loose conversations about various technological and political advancements. But now that the foods and wines were served up, he felt like it was time to discuss their business...

The week has been full of suspense.

Even worse with one of their much needed escort-pilots spend on making some important cargo dissappear to some unwanted eyes, wich was something that not only took a lot more time than they had originally expected. But also had the whole bureau upside down when the cargo's carrier, the escort-pilot, Didn't respond to his orders...

"Comrie, We've send you a directive message sometime yesterday. Why haven't you set sail on our instructed discretions?" Antonov asked in a serious tone. He inspected Comrie's face waiting for his response....
25 Mar 2017, 11:01am
"I've recieved a counterfeit directive message, Sir... The verification codes didn't match. I assumed at the time that the cargo's shadowers were trying to lure me out of the port to pick up trace of the cargo again. I didn't know how much knowledge the broadcasters had about our communication, so I decided to not respond to any messages hoping they wouldn't catch my trail again, Sir."
Comrie nervously rattled out his over-detailed explanaition.

He was still surprised by the leading officer's sudden appearance, and felt embarrased to being caught off guard again.

"And ehh. I have the counterfeit message and VER-code in my ship if you would like to see them, Sir!"

Ignoring DM's were serious matters. And he hoped his reasons to do so were sufficient.
25 Mar 2017, 11:16am
"No, it's allright, We've received the counterfeit message as well..." Antonov said calmly.

"And, please. Refrain yourself from the formal speak... We are not in the bureau right now.
He said, momentarily smiling at Comrie, before quickly changing back into his "business" face.

"We took our opertunities with the counterfeit message. We had another ship carrying fake cargo take off under it's discretions, and have already recieved word from her pilot that the vessel is being shadowed in the same way you have reported. So you should now be free to deliver the cargo to it's destination, and you should finally be free to take on your intended duties again."

Antonov spoke in a very serious tone. But a slight hint of joy could be heard in his speach.

As a leading officer, Antonov had dealt with such matter on numerous times, and solving them was no challenge anymore. But deep down. He felt slightly proud and content in, once again, having proved he was still just as sly as in the old days!

Glaboski enjoyed the way her face flickered in the candle light.

So much like my Susan...

He continued his easy, and charming smile.

"My dear," he tried to ease her apprehension, " I find an inquisitive mind, extremely fascinating." He took a small sip of the dry wine.

"The idea, that you are an explorer is quite compelling, really. To go and see those things, those places that no one else will....Oh, how exciting." He became more excited, though it was really a practiced lie. "Tell me all about the ruins!" He set the glass down.

"What were they like? How was it being there, among the ancient aliens!"
29 Mar 2017, 2:27pm
She bent her head, hand on neck, batting away shyly. Dr. Jones' attentive eyes and curious nature almost rivaled hers, she thought.

The man's expression as he spoke varied too much in good emotion. He smiled with his mouth but not always along with his eyes. And the faint creases between them pointed to a brooding and thoughtful life, they fell in line among the distant individuals in hers. So far.

It's fine. She returned to his gaze. "Scares me, if I'll be honest... You can get very far from the crowd depending on what you do it for." she claimed and watched as his lines attempt to iron out.

Claire cleared her throat and answered simply in order, "They were incomprehensible, especially for me but I'll save you the trouble." she beamed. "I got help from others and in turn I had to drive around ever so often to report anything out of the ordinary, in the case that they miss anything out." said Claire proudly. They were truly impatient and left her an ideal little job. Ideal for her. If it were one thing she was great at, it's patience. The smile lingered on her face, "And- I guess it felt like a wonder of our universe," she paused and twirled the stem of her glass, "Just the tip of it maybe?" she was excited again. And only now did she realize another truth to that trip.

As the two finished their meal, Ten let out a sigh. "I can't get access to the security feed for the service entrance. They're all connected to a closed network that I can't access remotely."

Cartlidge nodded, then stood up to return his used tray. "Then we'll head back over there ourselves. We can send a few bugs their way and still keep at a reasonable distance."

Turning in her own tray as well, Ten followed the bounty hunter to the exit. "I understand the need to save money, but you understand that roughly 70 percent of that meal was simple carbohydrates, correct? And it only contained about eight grams of protein?"

As they walked, Cartlidge wiped the residual salt off of the corners of his mouth. "Yeah, but it was still pretty good."

The pair boarded a train that would take them to the other side of the entertainment district.

"Thank you, sir, I'll take-off as soon as I can and finally get this business over with."

Comrie was surprised to see officer Borya this happy...
From the moment he had met him Antonov seemed like a boring, "between-the-lines" person. But he'd quickly shown him he wasn't just your average officer who had climbed to his ranks simply by "being a good boy".

Comrie finished up his salad and looked up to see how officer Borya was doing...
08 Apr 2017, 3:47pm
Antonov had already finished up his plate as well.
He shoved the plate a pinch away from him, and neatly placed the cutlery on it.

"You can stop calling me sir. I know thats the protocol but we're not on that side of the navy. None of us would've sticked around if things went like that"

Antonov called the waitress, aid for the small meal and asked her to compliment the cook...

"I would love to stay around longer, but we both have business to attend to."

In a hurry, He picked up his jacket, greeted, and left.
08 Apr 2017, 4:15pm
I wonder how I got here... Comrie thought to himself...

He decided to stay at the table for a minute, Picking some off some of the salad's cheese that was still on the plate, And gave a thought to Antonov's "Bureau".

Comrie didn't like getting orders. He'd always been used to deciding for himself wether he did or didn't want to help a person out. Usually it was the former. But not having an option just changed things...

Aaah, It could be worse....

He briskly stood up and left...

"Wonders if the Universe. So many to be had!" The good doctor said brightly, lifting his glass again, before taking a sip. He set it down. His eyes still on the woman before him.

"And someone of your report must have seen many. Come now, share with me of one such wonder that left you breathless." He said in almost a whisper.

The waiter bustled by, and left two menus before heading back to his other charges.

Glaboski placed a hand on the leather bound books waiting for her to finish.
