Elite roleplay: Citi Gateway

CITI GATEWAY

The Orbis station is a center of activity. Within the station a myriad of places can be found.
  • The Warrens: Where the poor plebs of the station live. It's is a breeding ground for the most unscrupulous. Keep an eye on your wallet when traversing the corridors of these areas.
  • Habitation Complex: For those workers and pilots that can afford it, this area provides closer to 1G gravity for more earth like living.
  • Commerce Divison: and Administration Where the larger corporations make their home. Station administration can be found here.
  • Industrial Complex: Where industry manufactures their various goods.
  • Entertainment: District Bars, theaters and night clubs, tattoo parlors and other establishments can be found vying for a commanders credits in exchange for a bit of fun.
  • Station Security: A high tech brig used to house law breakers until they can be tried, and or deported off station.
  • Medical Ward: Where commanders can get patched up, enhanced, or fix existing cybernetics.

General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

The pair watched Glaboski walk away.
"Should we be following him?" Ten asked once she figured he was out of earshot.

"I don't really know. This is starting to feel like a bad idea," Cartlidge replied, watching the doctor enter some sort of store further down the hallway. The pair stood silently for a moment. While Cartlidge thought of what to do next, Ten fixed her gaze to a small holographic sign that had been fixed over the store's entrance.

"I think that's some soft of flower shop," Ten concluded. “Why do you think he stopped in there?”

“No clue,” Cartlidge scratched at the stubble on his jaw. “Let’s see, based on what Stryker said, the doctor was killing and taking stem cells from people, and security found evidence, so he has to ‘fix it.’ We followed him here to the girl who passed out. ...Do you think he’s bringing them to that girl?”

“It is possible, yes, but there is also a great many other possibilities,” Ten replied. The doctor exited the store a few moments later, bouquet in hand. As he did so, Cartlidge turned the opposite way and began to walk.

“Wait what are we doing?” Ten asked, running to catch up.
“It probably won't end will if we get caught again, so we’re going to try something else.”

Claire woke easy to the thuds of footsteps around the medical ward. Pushing away from the bed softly, she breathed in relief as the drug seemed to have made its way into her body just alright. Not much time had passed but she noticed some patients had already left. The nurses started sanitizing previously occupied beds and changing the sheets for the next patient or two. One had passed by Claire to scan her holographic readings and before scanning the next, stopped to retrace back.

"Claire Bloodgood?" She questioned, tapping away on her tablet "Sorry.. Just wanted to double check a detail with you." She continued working on the readings at the foot of the bed, muttering under her breath about a possible error with the system.

"You have a LARC implant, correct?" She looked to Claire who had already gathered her belongings, "The scans may have failed to pick up your implant cod-"

"Oh I don't have any," Claire interrupted apologetically "I usually dock when it's- uhm- time?" She pats her hands on her thighs, this was another set of questions she had to deal with in every station buying girly supplies: 'Why don't you have a LARC?' and 'How did they let you off without one?'

As if by chance, the nurse started asking the very same questions in a complete 'How outlandish could you be' manner in her tone.

Glaboski walked into the medical ward bouquet in hand, and witness the nurse harassing the woman about a LARC.

"Leave the poor soul alone." He said simply. "It is her choice, not yours." As he pushed passed her shooing the pompous nurse out. Then addressing Clair.

"How are you feeling dear?" He asked. "You had quite a spell there. It is unusual, but not unheard of for pilots to have iron deficiency. But the muscle fatigue and bone loss...." He paused. "How long have you been in a zero-g environment?"

The doctor placed the flowers in a vase, and arranged them, taking care to make the arrangement aesthetically pleasing and symmetrical, plucking out strays and odds and ends. He turned it until satisfied that the most elegant side was facing the woman.

He stepped away, and pulled up a chair.

With her head hung low, Claire could be mistaken with a scolded child, even more so as she quickly gleamed to the sight of the beautiful bouquet. As the Doctor sat, Claire who was uncontrollably flushed, prompted herself upon the bed facing him.

"Uh- just over three weeks.. I think." She answered him, brushing the velvet petals with her fingertips "Thank you for earlier and the flowers... They're wonderful." She smiled. "I feel much better now, I was just about to head out for a bite." She considered for a moment.

This is just the perfect time! Claire shifts in place. "Would you- would you like to join me, Doctor?" She asked eagerly, relieved for a chance to repay his kindness, "My treat of course." The young woman giggled.
17 Mar 2017, 3:41pm
Cartlidge and Ten found a quiet spot near a restaurant and sat down.

"Now what?" the cyborg asked.

"We'll watch him remotely. Do you think you can get back into the system?" Cartlidge asked. Ten thought for a moment before nodding and taking out her datapad.

"Hopefully they haven't upgraded their security since last time. I will let you know when I find him." While Ten started working, Cartlidge pulled out his own datapad and started to type a message for Nick.

"Sound's like Stryker's back at the bar," Cartlidge remarked.
17 Mar 2017, 3:54pm
Join her for dinner....What a lovely suggestion.

Glaboski smiled sweetly. "Madam, that is a lovely suggestion." He said smoothly. "I happen to know a quaint little bistro." He took her hand and gave it a gentle kiss.

"Of course, if you have something else in mind, I would be more then happy to entertain that. And, no, I couldn't possibly let you pay. Chivalry may all be dead in some parts of the bubble, but I rather think, that lovely women should be given the pleasure of being doated on once in a while..."

He turned away. "I will wait for you in the lobby while you change." The doctor slowly limped out of the room. His ivory tipped cane clicking on the floor as he went.
17 Mar 2017, 4:05pm
The pair simultaneously winced as a static screech erupted from their earpieces.

"What was that?" Ten asked, taking out the earpiece. "Did something happen?"

"Yeah, I'm pretty sure the marble was broken. Maybe crushed under someone's boot or something?"

"Should we be worried?" Ten asked. Cartlidge thought for a moment before replying.

"I don't think so. I'm sure he'll figure out what it is, but I seriously doubt that he'll figure out where it came from. Either way, we should be more careful from now on."

Ten nodded and returned to her work. "I'm in, but haven't found him quite yet."

"All right. Keep looking."
17 Mar 2017, 6:36pm
She thanked the Doctor for his courtesy, dipping her head at the peck on her hand. Feeling spoiled and overwhelmed, she glanced at the flowers and wished he'd let her pay.

Bathroom. In a haste, Claire reaches for her small durable bag and sets up. She catches a glimpse of a small rounded tin of lip stain, a gift her mother threw in at random. Claire examined herself in the mirror thoroughly before dabbing the product on her lips as it softly stained. Whatever. 'Formal' enough... She shrugged.

Dinner with a respected man prompted at least a little color, or so she assumed. Speaking of. She bounced towards the lobby, bouquet in one hand and bag the other, paying for a temporary locker and pleading the receptionist to let the vase sit on the desk till she came back. With a perky 'Thanks', Claire made her way to the Doctor.

the gateways next!! Sneaking round corners laying TNT as he goes, after a few minutes not a corner isnt covered with the blast range of the TNT!!!

"no one will survive" pressing the button sending everyone in the gateway to a firey hell

"goodbye"
20 Mar 2017, 3:10am
Dr. Glaboski hooked his arm and offered it to Claire.

He walked with a slow and limped pace, his other hand holding onto his cane. He gave it a twirl every so often as they picked their way through the crowded entertainment district. The lights of establishments glittered and danced. People outside on patios enjoying conversation and meals filled the air with a dull drone.

"What brings you to this lonely section of inhabited space." He asked as they made their way around a corner. "I cannot believe it is for the sites. There are, much more pleasant stations then this one... Ah!" The had reached their the destination. "And here we are." The sign above the elegant doors read 'The Fox and the Hound,' and given the attire of the patrons, it was pretty classy.

"Not as classy as I would have liked, for such a lovely lady, but it will do in a pinch." The doctor gave a nod to the sharply dresses hostess and spoke to her for a moment. The good doctor had made a reservation while Claire was peering herself. The hostess nodded and lead them to their table. A cozy little spot just for two.
20 Mar 2017, 3:57pm
"I found him," Ten announced. "He's in the entertainment district with a woman, possibly the person he helped earlier."

"Can you tell where they are going?" Cartlidge asked.

"Not really, but- oh! They just went into a restaurant called 'The Fox and the Hound.'"

"Do they not have any security feeds inside?"

"No, it seems to be frequented by higher class citizens, mostly. I could cite at least six reasons as to why security would not be able to place cameras inside the establishment."

"All right. I'll take your word for it. Can you check to see if they have any additional entrances aside from the front door?" Cartlidge asked. Ten nodded in reply and switched to a set of files containing the structural layout of the district. "You know, if they're actually there for dinner, it might take a while. Maybe we should go get some food as well?"

Ten remained focused on her datapad for a moment before finally turning the device off and standing.

Claire smiled and reached for the Doctor's arm in a comfortable grip. The walk had been slow but enjoyable, people bubbled about in their clean duds. Her particular interest was the contrast to the Warrens. She falls easily for pretty display and would rather judge the entirety through community conduct. Or something. She cringed to herself.

After amusing at the surroundings, Claire is pulled back by the man's question and turn. "I'm just stopping by before heading home" She answered him, smirking at his apparent distaste to the station.

"It's nice in its own way..." She paused upon seeing the bistro, noticing the well-clothed customers and crinkled her brows to her attire of a simple black mid-cut blouse and tight blue khakis.

This embarrassed Claire a little, her get up was a long way from classy and being stood next to the man granted her a sorry pass. Nice, dumbass.

She looked to the Doctor speaking how it wasn't as classy as he hoped. Sure you're not talking about me?

"It's gorgeous here," Her eyes smiled, hoping to assure his good choice. "It's more than enough for a pinch." There was a small sense of discomfort. Men of his circle are often expectant of similar behavior, formal manners at the table were a delight to them. He's pretty nice for high-class. She tensed, hoping he'd let her off for being 'casual'.

"And yourself? Work bring you here?" She tilted her head.

Dr. Glaboski enjoyed the finer things in life. He was accustomed to the finest foods, outings, and when it came to his choice in women, well....

"My dear," he said smoothly, "only the best will do." He pulled back a chair and allowed Claire to seat herself. He walked around the neatly set table and took his seat. The doctor folded his hands, the flickering of candle light playing off his features.

"We haven't even been properly introduced. I dare say I've been so enraptured with such a captivating beauty I've lost all sense of chivalry." His face lifted into a kind smile. "Doctor Ryan Jones." In that moment, a waiter glided by.

"Corton-Charlemagne, 3283." Glaboski said smiling.
"Yes sir."

Glaboski returned his attention back to Claire, fixing his eyes on hers.

"I've come here on behalf of medical professionals in the Pegasi region to secure additional funding."

The pair made their way to a cheap fast food restaurant on the edge of the entertainment district, near one of the train stations that connected the district to the other sections of the station. After inserting a credit chip into the chef and placing an order, the food printer produced two meals. Cartlidge knew some pilots that could not even stomach 3D printed food, but for Cartlidge is was a guilty pleasure.

Meanwhile Ten had buried her gaze in her datapad, carefully analyzing the information she had gained access to. Moments later Cartlidge returned, food in hand, and sat down.

“Find anything else?” Cartlidge asked, taking a large bite out of the reconstituted cheeseburger.

“Well, there is a service entrance where they store their supplies and equipment. It’s located in the back of the kitchen and connects to another hallway. Furthermore there is a maintenance access hatch in that same hallway, but I have access to a camera pointed directly on the hatch,” she explained.

Cartlidge nodded silently, his mouth still full of food. After placing the burger down and wiping his hands on his pants, he pulled out his own datapad and finished the message he was planning to send to Nick.
22 Mar 2017, 6:31pm
She whispered a thanks, stiff to the whole process and glad for the slight warmth of the flame as she bent to sit. Her eyes lingered at the candle for a second, smiling at its aesthetic. Yes, Claire. That's fire. Claire traced the light to his eyes and notices a flash of the fire's golden reflection. Brown... She dipped her head in awkwardness to his comment and inwardly thanked the waiter for diverting the man.

Dr. Jones, huh... She pondered then winced at his order. The fancy name made her sink. Is that red or white? She glanced back to the Doctor whose eyes locked with hers, noticing his were darker.

"Claire Bloodgood." she returned the favor. Pegasi region...? A silly spur rose in her chest, wondering why it equated as a problem in her head. "That's quite far from here.."  Claire hesitated, "Hope I didn't distract you." She said politely.
