Elite roleplay: Citi Gateway

CITI GATEWAY

The Orbis station is a center of activity. Within the station a myriad of places can be found.
  • The Warrens: Where the poor plebs of the station live. It's is a breeding ground for the most unscrupulous. Keep an eye on your wallet when traversing the corridors of these areas.
  • Habitation Complex: For those workers and pilots that can afford it, this area provides closer to 1G gravity for more earth like living.
  • Commerce Divison: and Administration Where the larger corporations make their home. Station administration can be found here.
  • Industrial Complex: Where industry manufactures their various goods.
  • Entertainment: District Bars, theaters and night clubs, tattoo parlors and other establishments can be found vying for a commanders credits in exchange for a bit of fun.
  • Station Security: A high tech brig used to house law breakers until they can be tried, and or deported off station.
  • Medical Ward: Where commanders can get patched up, enhanced, or fix existing cybernetics.

General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

"Sounds like you had some fun then," Isaiah said, smirking. "Just glad you made it out and gave Glaboski what for."

He looked over at Cait, giving a slight nod of the head to her. "And I'm guessing you two have been getting along?"

Cait crossed her arms over her chest and leaned back against the wall, nodding her head curtly. "As much as we can be considering the fact that we both worked our asses off to save yours." She raised an eyebrow, looking back at Lilith. "We made a pretty decent team, I'd say."
24 Dec 2016, 6:31pm
"Don't go getting any ideas, I'm still not convinced Madame over here isn't adding up my bounties." Lilith said, rolling her eyes, "I only came back to let you know I got Glaboski so you don't have to hunt him down yourselves."

She couldn't help shake the feeling there was about to be an intervention of sorts. It wasn't happening. While she had no major problems with Cait or Isaiah, they only knew what the bounties told them and Lilith had no interest in changing that.
24 Dec 2016, 9:25pm
"I appreciate it, Lilith, I really do," Isaiah said. While he felt no romantic affection for her, he did find that he cared about Lilith - if only due to the extent that he'd gone as far as he did to protect her and try to keep her out of Glaboski's clutches. He knew the risk to himself was great, but he felt it was worth it. The medical costs were going to lighten his credit balance somewhat, but that was nothing compared to a life saved.

"Look," he continued, "I know you're going to do your own thing. I know you'll exact your own brand of justice on people. But... if it's all the same, try not to get yourself into too much trouble, okay?" He tilted his head to the side, locking eyes with her. "If you get into a bind, let me know."

Cait bristled slightly at Isaiah's words, but she said nothing.

"And no, we're not going to come after you for your bounties," Isaiah added, looking at Cait. "Right?"

"I suppose she's earned something for her trouble. Maybe a day's head start," Cait said with a wink. "But seriously, you're okay in my book. Just... try not to stir up too much trouble, yeah?"
25 Dec 2016, 9:24am
Lilith shrugged, not wanting to pursue it further.

"No promises." She said, turning away from Isaiahs gaze, "I do what I need to do to get where I need to go. It's as simple as that."

But she wasn't entirely convinced herself. On one hand, these two had proven to be good allies. Perhaps the closest to friends as she was likely to get. But on the other hand, she'd spent months relying on herself and herself alone. Besides the occasional hired help when she needed it. It was better that way.

Realising the silence she was leaving while fighting herself, she faced back towards the pair, keeping out of eye contact.

"But if I need a hand, I'll give you a shout... Just don't go waiting on that call...." She added briskly.
25 Dec 2016, 10:43pm
"That reminds me," Isaiah said, reaching over to pick up the data slate on the table beside his bed. "I believe I said I'd give you the payment that Glaboski gave me up-front for taking the job." He motioned to Lilith, smiling slightly. "Got your slate?"
26 Dec 2016, 12:30am
"Keep it. Consider it damage payment." Lilith said flatly, "I got what I want, you got what you didn't deserve."

Yeah, she'd been set back a million credits, but there were jobs she could do to fix that. That was one of the advantages of being in the Pilots Federation, jobs of all sorts were plentiful if you looked for them. She smiled at the thought, it had been a while since she'd done a skimmer run on a Planetary Outpost, or a Generator Seek and Destroy mission. Those were dangerous, but never failed to entertain Lilith.

"Uhh, thanks... Both of you..." She said, in a detached sort of way, "It's probably time I left anyways," With that, she rose from her chair and moved towards the door.
26 Dec 2016, 5:34am
Isaiah sensed that there was more on Lilith's mind than moving on - but he wasn't terribly sure it was right to say anything more than he already had.

"Where do you plan on heading next?" Cait asked, taking the words out of his mouth. "I mean, just out of curiosity. Anywhere near Imperial space?"

Cait mentally berated herself for taking an interest in Lilith's plans - it wasn't like her to come around so quickly to new people. Even with Isaiah, she'd had to spend time around him before she even considered a friendship with him. And as much as she wanted to pass it off as being polite, she was genuinely interested in Lilith's future plans.

"I mean, if you're ever interested in relaxing for a few days, Leeson City in Prism is pretty... well, pretty. For a backwater," Cait added, looking at Isaiah. He rolled his eyes.

"What she means to say is that it's quiet by comparison to the core Imperial worlds and the amount of shiny is kept to a tolerable level," Isaiah said. "I wouldn't call it home otherwise."
26 Dec 2016, 8:24am
Lilith stopped and turned slightly towards the couple.

"I don't generally take holidays, I can't afford to." She said, shrugging her shoulders, "Besides, if your next stop is home I suspect you both have more on your minds than harbouring a fugitive."

Turning back towards the door, she went to leave but paused again in the threshold.

"And Isaiah, will you stop keeping secrets from Cait. I know as well as she does you didn't come here for a damned holiday. No one sits on a beach, tanning, and scouring the bounty boards." She said sternly, "So either tell her why you're really here or so help me I'll drill a bigger hole in your head."

Letting the words sink in, she put one hand on the doorframe and took a further step outside and then a thought occurred to her.

"Not that I care..." She added brusquely, "I just don't want our next meeting to be another Agony Aunt column like coffee in the cafeteria was."

She looked towards the two of them sternly. Whatever issues they were having was between them. But she'd sensed the bond between the two and felt obliged to help preserve it. Although admittedly she wasn't sure why she felt that way.
26 Dec 2016, 9:30pm
Isaiah frowned, glancing to Cait for a moment. Likewise, she'd turned to him with a similar expression of apprehension. There was going to be a discussion once Lilith was gone, and it was one Isaiah didn't want to have. Cait wasn't one to relent when it came to finding answers, and as much as he hated keeping things from her, he felt he needed to.

"I'll take that under advisement," he said to Lilith finally, turning back to her. "At any rate, fly safe."

Cait gave Lilith a nod, the apprehension still written into her features.
26 Dec 2016, 10:11pm
"Indeed..." Lilith said leaving the room.

That was it then. Back on her own again, although she had little doubt she'd meet Isaiah and Cait again. On what terms that meeting ended up being was up to the puppeteers of the universe. Not that she subscribed to any particular religion or philosophy beyond Look after yourself, no one else will. Mind you, the pair in the medical ward, now several steps behind her, had challenged that philosophy somewhat.

*Oh well, next stop, weapons store. This could get expensive...* She thought to herself. Her Kinetic weapon had been confiscated before she was taken to the Medical Ward in custody, and she'd forgotten about her spare Energy Weapon altogether after the fight with Rex. Straightening her trench-coat she stuffed her hands in her pockets and jaunted away out of the Ward once again.
26 Dec 2016, 11:31pm
Cait waited for a moment before crossing the room and shutting the door, making sure the lock was active, before turning to Isaiah and sitting down in the chair across from him.

"I'm sorry, Cait," he said, repeating his earlier apology even though he knew what was coming had nothing to do with his words to her.

Without a word, Cait reached for his hand, taking it in her own and squeezing it tightly. She locked eyes with him for several moments, and Isaiah couldn't help but keep his gaze fixed on her.

"I know there are some things you can't tell me, Isaiah," she said softly, stroking his hand with her thumb. "I know we're not joined at the hip and we both have our own endeavors and jobs to do, but I worried about you while you were... off the grid. I only want to know... did you find what you were looking for?"

Isaiah shook his head wordlessly, lowering his gaze. "No. At least I don't think so. I guess it remains to be seen."

"Does this have something to do with the Loren investigation?"

Isaiah didn't reply. Cait bristled, releasing his hand and sitting back in the chair.

"She's dead. You know that. She was stripped of her title as a Senator and a lady, convicted--"

"I don't think that's the end of it, Cait," he said firmly, cutting her off and lifting his eyes to meet hers again. "I think there's far more going on than anyone realizes."

"If you ask me, the actions of the group she associated with told me enough about what kind of person she was," Cait said, running a hand through her hair and ruffling it. "She was an irresponsible child of a despicable man, not a leader worthy of respect in my eyes. And she's certainly not worth the effort you're putting in to try and exonerate her."

Isaiah's shoulders slumped and he looked away from Cait, trying hard not to speak out of turn or say something he'd regret. In truth, she was probably right - it wasn't worth the effort to try and exonerate a dead person... but Cuthrick had made it clear that there would be no stone left unturned, and that there had to be some sort of truth that was being concealed from the public. His instincts told him that there was something awful happening in the galaxy, but he couldn't pin down exactly what it was. Kahina Loren had discovered something, and just as she was returning to share her findings, she was apprehended and charged with attempting to assassinate one of the most powerful figures in the Empire.

Why did that seem so wrong? What was it about those sequence of events, and the time in which it occurred, that bothered him so much?

"I have to find out," Isaiah said quietly, still looking away from Cait. "If for no other reason than to sate my own curiosity."

"And what do you expect to find?"

"The truth. Maybe. If it hasn't been buried amidst all the other strange things that have happened in the last year."

Cait sighed heavily, pinching the bridge of her nose between her thumb and index finger. She closed her eyes, thinking of the words she'd say next.

He was relentless. He couldn't take no for an answer. He couldn't take things at face value and he always tried to look between the crannies and crevices in a person or an idea. And it frustrated her to no end because it often led him to doing exactly the sorts of things he shouldn't - sticking his neck out for Lilith was just another example of his behavior.

But that was why she loved him.

She rose from her seat and went alongside his bed, leaning down to place a hand on his cheek and turn his face to hers.

"You always do what you think is right," she said to him quietly - making a statement rather than giving him an instruction. "But don't get yourself into trouble. I love you, Isaiah. Please remember that." She kissed him softly on the lips, then pinched his cheek for good measure, laughing quietly when he yelped in surprise.

"What is it with you and pinching?" he said as she pulled away. He couldn't help but laugh at the smug look on her face.

"I'll let you pinch something of mine if you'd like," she replied with a mischievous grin. "But not right now. Right now you need sleep and I need to find a pillow so I can kick back with you in here for the night."

Isaiah nodded towards a cabinet at the far end of the room. "Linen closet. Probably the best bet."

Cait shuffled across the room, unlocking the door as she went, and opened the cabinet. She bent down and grabbed two of the soft felt pillows, then closed the cabinet back and plopped down in the recliner on the opposite side as Isaiah's bed.

"So I guess we're on vacation after all?" Isaiah asked, tucking his arms behind his head.

"If this is a vacation, it's a shitty one," Cait replied, fluffing the pillows and tucking them behind her head, then extended the leg rest and laying back. "You promised me a good time and I expect one at some point."

Isaiah grinned. "I'll make it up to you somehow."

"You better," Cait said, closing her eyes. "Now shush and let's get some rest."
27 Dec 2016, 8:14pm
As Lilith reached the receptionidsts desk she went to turn in her visitors pass. Just as she was signing out, she remembered the earpiece was still in her ear. Without saying a word she simply pulled it out and clicked it off.

"Can you return this to Isaiah for me please?" She asked the receptionist politely.

"Sure thing." Came the cheery response as the man took it from her and put it into a small envelope. Scribbling the room number onto the front he gave a smile and a cheery wave as Lilith turned away and walked solemnly out the door, head down and hands in her pockets.

If Stations simulated weather as well as Gravity, it would definitely be pouring with rain for Lilith right now. Walking away from Isaiah and Cait was easy, they were people and people were quick to change. Sure they'd been nice now, even helpful, but that could be swapped out as soon as something came up. Bloodfeather on the other hand...

Yeah, "she" was a Machine. But Lilith had grown used to her presence. It had been reassuring having her quips in her ear, or cheery attitude in the face of, well, anything. Sure, she was simply following programmed codes and logic sequences, but it was still a comfort knowing that Bloodfeather had no selfish motivations to be doing what she was doing.

Now Liliths ear, and head, felt hollow without it as she disappeared around the corner from the Hospital, hoping a Gun Store was nearby so she could vent her frustrations by testing some new toys for a short while.

Rowen groans lightly as his customized helmet changes expression from [=-=] to [@_@], his path wobbly as he looks around. Looking for something. His visors expression changing from [@_@] to a trio of question marks with the middle one double the size of the others. He was certainly lost this he knew. What he was looking for was the industrial zone to source some goods for his company. But he wasn't sure if the area he was looking for was around the corner or on the opposite end of the station.

"And they wonder why I like doing everything from my ship..." He'd grumble to himself, his voice distorted slightly due to the speaker of his helmet. He'd stop and leaned back against a wall for a minute to gather his thoughts, he'd rub his visor as if it was his face. His visor would change to mimic his eyes closing by turning to [- -] as he leaned against the random wall. Trying to gather himself.

As the festivities of the New Years continued around her, Lilith tightened her trenchcoat around herself and made herself small to fit through the crowds. Growing up in Sol, she understood that the celebrations centered around the time it took for Earth to complete its orbit around the main star of the system. What she didn't get, was how the hell it applied to the bustling crowds of a station halfway across the Bubble. Then again, maybe she was just jaded.

Nonetheless she found herself standing outside a weapon store, staring inside through the front door window. The interior was quite darkened, making it hard to tell if it was open or not, but she caught a hint of movement beyond the shade and made a move to enter.

As the door opened, she discovered that the 'gloom' was in fact just a build up of dirt on the window. That said, it wasn't an overly bright store anyway, but it was definitely open. Clearly the owner wasn't a fan of the festivities either. That suited her fine, the cheerfulness of the people outside was only darkening her mood further.

"Can I help you?" came a deep croaky voice from the back of the store. A grizzly old man came out from the back of the store wiping his hands. Looking up he spotted Lilith, huffed and frowned,  "Sorry, this is a serious store, not a toy store."

Lilith responded with a scowl, then looked behind the man through the doorway at an invisible entity and shouted through.

"OI!! SOMEONES GRANDPARENT IS LOOSE THROUGH HERE!!" Then looked back at the man and smiled innocently. He simply met her with a stern look and threw his cloth down.

"Alright, fine... What do you want?" He grumbled before adding, "And if you say a gun I'm going round back again."

*Charming fellow* She thought to herself, eying up the pistols on the rack beside her. On one side were a collection of energy based weapons, on the other, an equally impressive, but smaller array of old fashioned kinetic weapons. Her personal preference.

"Two weapons. One pulse pistol, one kinetic." She licked her lips while examining the options. "I want to try them beforehand too."

"There's a deposit, and you pay per bullet if it's the kinetic ones." Replied the man.

Several minutes later, Lilith was standing in a firing range with an assortment of guns beside her. She was the only one in the room, much to her liking. The smell of gunpowder filled the air as she let loose a barrage of 9mm rounds from a semi-automatic, followed by wafts of ozone as she finished the magazine and switched to try out the pulse pistol.

This was proving to be very relaxing and she could feel the dark mood she'd been in leaving her with every shot fired.

Rowen groaned and grabbed his face as he was stirred awake by the sound of his communication device beeping over and over that he had an incoming transmission. With the grace of a new born calf he propped himself up off the bed he found himself in, his mind a haze as he looks around the hotel room he found himself in. "How the fuck, did I even find a hotel..." He grumbled to himself as he say upright and took in a deep breath before putting on the ear pierce and answering the call,"Stipe here-- and awake finally..." he'd say as he got up.

"Well that's certainly a record, it only took you an hour to get your sleepy ass up." An older female voice would bitch into his ear as he stretched with a sigh,"I'm meant to be on vacation." he'd speak up. "And yet still doing work according to logs." She rebutted, "And the moment I let it get too far behind, I'm screwed more than a side winder against a Thargoid." He'd say turning on the sink as he looked in the mirror. Green eyes stared back at him, half his head was shaved while the other half still maintained a decent hair length and cut. His cheeks where bare but his chin and upper lip sported long dangling goatee that was in a mess from having woken up.

"Speaking of, I doubt you've heard the news." The lady responded, "What the Federation and Empire made peace?" He'd joke, chuckling a bit at it himself, as he washed his face. "Even better, we've gotten reports of live Thargoids. Your data pad should be getting the videos soon" Rowen blinked some, looking in the mirror while drying his hands "Do what..." he'd say then quickly rushed over to his data pad and picked it up and started watching the various videos he'd received. "Roberts... This is big..."

"We know, we just wanted to make you aware as well. Now hurry up and get your ass back to the system, your vacation is over." Roberts spoke before ending the call. "What? But it's only the 2nd." He'd protest up until he got to see the date with a disturbed blink. "Whoa... I've been out of it for a few days now, I should ease up on the drug use..." He'd say as he slipped into his pilots suit and then pulled on his green over coat. Finally he put on his helmet and the purple lighted eyes shone with a pair of o's as he left the temporary housing with everything he found to be his.

With a rub of his helmet he started making his way to the docks, his stride as casual as could be since he apparently blacked out most of his mini vacation in the station.
