Elite roleplay: Citi Gateway

CITI GATEWAY

The Orbis station is a center of activity. Within the station a myriad of places can be found.
  • The Warrens: Where the poor plebs of the station live. It's is a breeding ground for the most unscrupulous. Keep an eye on your wallet when traversing the corridors of these areas.
  • Habitation Complex: For those workers and pilots that can afford it, this area provides closer to 1G gravity for more earth like living.
  • Commerce Divison: and Administration Where the larger corporations make their home. Station administration can be found here.
  • Industrial Complex: Where industry manufactures their various goods.
  • Entertainment: District Bars, theaters and night clubs, tattoo parlors and other establishments can be found vying for a commanders credits in exchange for a bit of fun.
  • Station Security: A high tech brig used to house law breakers until they can be tried, and or deported off station.
  • Medical Ward: Where commanders can get patched up, enhanced, or fix existing cybernetics.

General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

Nathalie smirks at Jade, before looking at her walking away to another customer.

"Fair enough!"

She then turns around Sam, to hand back the bottle.

"Seems like that little one is safe until tomorrow, then."

Cee KloverCee sighs.

"Let's assume we can," she says, placing her spread fingertips on the counter.

"Let's assume for one crazy, hypothetical, cupcake soaked minute that I ignore rule twenty of the Bartenders Federation - which, incidentally, clearly states "Accepting alternate forms of payment for drinks is an offense, and will be met with lethal force" - Let's assume that I take your..."

Cee raises her hands and makes quotation mark gestures with her fingers.

"... Small fortune in gold in exchange for one glass of gin. Even if they're the real deal, how do I know those coins ain't hot? You wouldn't want to get me in trouble with my boss and the Bartenders Federation, now would you?"

Cee tilts her head at the blue haired woman.

After it had happened, Kara was never quite sure what it was that flipped her switches. When it was all over, when the dust had settled and the exhaustion hit her all she could remember was that something had triggered it. At the time, during the event, all she ever knew was the rushing torrent of strength that flooded her veins and the landslide of rage that swept her mind clean of anything resembling cognition.

On this occasion it could have been the desperate sense of frustration she felt about being unable to function as a normal person without a Credit account from the eponymous Bank of Zaonce.

Or it may have been the mocking jokes she had really worked hard to ignore from the guys opposite in the Vape shop.

Perhaps it was nothing more than when Cee had used the word Federation.

Or it could be just because Kara Walden was an unstable Sociopath who shouldn't be allowed out in public.

Whatever it was that triggered it this time, all she knew was that it happened and it wouldn't matter how many times she repeated the word “Anonymous” because someone was going to get it.

She dead eyed Cee then slammed her hand down on the bar and made glasses rattle across the room.

“Fine. You want Credits. I'll get you Credits,” she said and stormed out of the bar smashing the doors open as she went. They swung backwards and forwards for a few seconds and then she came back through, walked over to the bar again and picked up the Gold coins.

“I need this ribbon,” she snarled and tore it off as she left for the second time, scattering the shiny gold fortune all over the floor.

Kara left the Olive Grove at speed and was across the street in seconds. The Vapers saw her coming and for a fraction of a second might even have thought she was looking to buy something but then the tallest guy took a sucker punch to the chin and was dragged by the nostrils over the threshold before his unconscious body was thrown at the feet of the other three.

She slammed the door shut, slid the bolt and carefully turned the door sign over so it read “Closed”. Then she pulled down the roller curtain.

When she faced them again, with the silk ribbon pulled tight between her fists she asked them very quietly,

“Which of you sock cuckers wants to buy me a drink?”

Cee watches the blue haired woman leave the bar, and shakes her head.

"Just when you think you've seen it all..." she mutters as she scoops up the discarded golden discs. She arranged them in a neat pile under the counter, and then attends to another customer.

Hearing the commotion from behind her, Suki spins round in time to see the blue haired woman burst out of the bar and stomp out of The Olive Grove.

"Hijō ni kimyōna!" she says to herself. She turns her attention to the security feed on her podium, which shows a view of the mall outside the pleasure house. She watches the blue haired woman enter a vape house on the far side of Second Avenue. Then, a short time later, she sees the glass door to the vape house shatter and a white powder billows out into the mall. She taps her podium twice.

"Hai," she says, "Citi Gateway Security? This is The Olive Grove. There is a disturbance in Second Avenue..."

("Hijō ni kimyōna!" = "Very strange!" )

Stryker's claw was still interlaced with his organic fingers, his look was hard upon Adam,

"David isn't that far off the mark."

All of a sudden a commotion grabbed his attention. Just down the street, a blue haired woman barged out of the Olive Grove. His lips turned up into a small smirk and the large man scoffed, "Your pleasure is our pleasure, huh?"

Upon returning his attention his eyes landed upon the mysterious man sitting off in the booth yonder. His eyes met the mans for just a moment, then returned back to Adam,

"You any good with a blaster?"
05 Jul 2018, 4:25am
Setting his beer down, Adam returned the expression and emotion of Stryker's gaze back to the two men sitting with him. He stared for a moment, a frown on his lips and eyebrows inclining inward. The explorer looked almost offended as he replied.

"If you expect me to start shooting people, I'm afraid you're sadly mistaken." Adam spoke, nose wrinkling in slight frustration. "I don't work like that. I don't plan on being some gunslinger."

He let a pause fall over them. "If you're looking for that from me you can kindly look elsewhere."

"Hm," Jubei cocked his head a bit with a raised eyebrow. "Not even in self-defense?"

“Bear in mind that the pain you are feeling is from one very bent little finger. I am literally restraining you with one finger. If you struggle anymore I will hold your entire hand. Do you want me to hold your hand or do you want to buy me a drink?” she whispered into his ear.

Despite the cloud of fire retardant obscuring everything she had found and subdued the last guy easily. She had bent his pinkie in on itself and held it between her thumb and forefinger. Only her fingers had more in common with a steel trap than ordinary fingers.

He coughed and sputtered on the thick powder but she felt him nod weakly.

“I'm sorry I had to, err, vaporise your friend, but he was very rude and his jokes aren't funny,” she said before dragging the last guy up and opening the shattered door. A cloud of fire retardant followed them out.

Quick quick quick she thought. Anonymous, anonymous, a-non-y-mouse.

Then she was pushing him through the entrance of the Olive Grove.

She smiled manically at Suki.

“This is John. He's with me. He's my boyfriend. He has credits and he wants to buy me a drink,” she said and body slammed him into the door to the bar then she opened it and pushed him through before frog marching him up to the bar.

She gave his little finger a tweak and he tried to talk but nothing came out at first so she tweaked it again. Then he very meekly said,

“Could I have a drink please?”

“A Gin!” Kara barked

“A Gin! Can I have a Gin please. For my, my girlfriend,” he added and Kara smiled at him, then rested her head on his shoulder.

“We're in lurve,” she said and winked at Cee.

The sound of shattering glass and fire retardant letting off made North jump.  As he turned to look he caught dark blue eyes staring at him from down the bar. He didn't make the connection as he continue to turn and look at the scene outside.

"Does this always happen in this district?", he asked the bartender as he came by to grab North's empty bottle. He only got a shrug in reply.

North stood and quickly moved to the door, right hand twitching. Remain calm North thought to himself. He took one last look around the bar, and then stepped outside and made his way back to the docks.

"Commander, I have managed to gain entry into the local security cameras in your area" Kain said, though it sounded oddly triumphant. "I have an update about the two unknown subjects, and I've found the meeting place for your contact." an image flashed across North's right eye again, this time showing an image with a two buildings one long shut down and the other quite new, as though a company had decided to upgrade to an entirely new building all together and on the corner of the older, more rundown of the two almost invisible, were five gash marks all pointing into a ladder a few feet in the alley going up onto a terraced roof of the rundown building. "This appears to be in the industrial area, just past the local security building. as for the two unknowns, the female in question is Corvallu Ibara, an investigator in town tracking illegal slave trade dealings by a large faction known as Black Omegas. The male, however, is a ghost. every file with his image attached has been redacted or shows as corrupted when queried"

"Thank you, Kain" North said, taking a left turn towards the Industrial complex. He was able to find the spot in question, and climbed the ladder.  On the roof, past the old ventilation units, the roof had caved in. North peeked over the side and shook his head. This better not be a trap he thought, as he dropped into the hole into the room below.  After the dust settled he saw a message on the wall

APPROACH THE VANGAURD WITH RESPECT.

121432.6 LP 38

Time to head to the docks.  Now is not the time to stop at the security complex with the commotion going on
North thought as he climbed out onto the roof and down the ladder.  Once back on the street and walking, He mused at the second part of the message. coordinates? no, it has to be a comms frequency. LP could only mean landing pad, with means the last two numbers tell WHICH landing pad.

clever  He thought with a wry grin.  The steam swallowed him as he turned the last corner to the docks.

Kara waldenThen she was pushing him through the entrance of the Olive Grove.

She smiled manically at Suki.

Suki watches the blue haired woman re-enter The Olive Grove with the man from the Vape House. She raises one finger and opens her mouth to speak, but then closes her mouth again as the blue haired woman escorts the panic-stricken man into the bar room.

She gave his little finger a tweak and he tried to talk but nothing came out at first so she tweaked it again. Then he very meekly said,

“Could I have a drink please?”

“A Gin!” Kara barked.

“A Gin! Can I have a Gin please. For my, my girlfriend,” he added and Kara smiled at him, then rested her head on his shoulder.

“We're in lurve,” she said and winked at Cee.

Cee glances at the terrified man, then gives the blue haired woman a stony glare.

"I seriously doubt that," she says. She pours a single measure of gin into a glass, and places it on the counter, all the while holding the gaze with the blue haired woman.

"One gin, just like your 'boyfriend' asked for. Drink it, and then get outta here. Oh, by the way, your boyfriend's name is Brendan. Just in case you didn't get that fact straight earlier."

She smiles at the man.

"I thought you'd kicked vapin', Brendan. Better not let that husband of yours catch you. You know how riled up Frankie gets when he smells that stuff on your breath."

Cee reaches under the counter for the pile of golden discs, and sets them on the counter next to the glass of gin.

"Here," she says to the blue haired woman. "You can have these trinkets back, too."
05 Jul 2018, 5:41pm
Stryker's eyes traced the mysterious man's path as he left the little bar. Returning his attention back to his party his sighed.

"Adam, is more than proficient in an SLF. I've seen it myself. He can take care of himself when the need arises. I'm not asking you to pull the trigger or anything."

There was a sharp chirp. Unlacing his fingers he brought his cybernetic forearm up. A flickering of orange light and holographic sinusoidal wave took shape. It slowly undulated with the occasional quiver in the image. His eyes focused upon it for a long moment. As suddenly as it appeared, it vanished and a small smirk tugged at the side of his lip.

"As for David, I think you would love nothing more? What do you plan to do?"
05 Jul 2018, 5:57pm
"I don't make it a habit of pulling a trigger. Let's just put it that way." Adam replied to Jubei. "Not saying I haven't, but I'm saying I prefer not to." The explorer pushed his empty bottle into the center of the table.

"I also don't see how any of this needs me." Adam spoke again with a sigh.

Cee Klover

"Here," she says to the blue haired woman. "You can have these trinkets back, too."

As soon as Brendan's authorised the purchase Kara gave an excited whoop and fist pumped the air.

“Yes! Mission complete,” she said, “And I keep telling you, it's not for me, it's for Commander Ceaser. I don't even drink!”

“But we need to go now, I'm guessing that someone might have been a naughty little rat and called the law,” she said and waved goodbye to Cee.

Then she looked at Brendan.

“And I think it's time you and I had a little chat about disclosure. Brendan,” she said and narrowed her eyes. He paled even more and whimpered his way through the words please don't kill me.

“Bless,” she said letting his hand go. She glanced at Cee as if to say, isn't he sweet?

“Thank you so much,” she said to the dark haired bartender, “you've been great, I'm glad we're friends now,"

Then she took back all but one of the coins.

“Keep the change,” she whispered with a conspiratorial glance around the room. She turned back to Brendan and hooked her finger and thumb into his cheek before dragging him by the face out of the bar.

“Bye bye nice smiley lady,” she said to Suki on the way out.

Out in the street she checked for the authorities and whispered to Brendan as she pulled his face along,

“Just act natural, I've got one more mission for you. It's very straightforward. You need to be totally anonymous though. A ghost. Get in and out quietly and quickly without anyone even knowing you are there,” then she stopped dead and twisted his face up to hers.

“And this is very very very important Brendan. Absolutely mission critical. Are you listening Brendan? Under no circumstances are you to kill anyone,” she said to him with a deadpan face. “Killing people is not in the parameters of this mission,”

She turned his head and pointed at a corner market across the street.

“I need you to go in there and buy me some cupcakes. Not just the cheap ones though. They need to be fancy Brendan. I want you to buy me fancy cupcakes and I want you to take them and give them to my new friend in the Olive Grove,”

She let his face go and opened her palm as a tiny thing the size of a grain of rice landed on it.

“This is a micro imaging device. I use them to make films about myself. This particular one is focused on you Brendan and if you don't do what I ask I will know about it. I will know and I will hunt you down and I will be very angry with you. Do you understand me?” She asked as the micro camera took flight again.

Brendan nodded in a stupified mix of abject terror and concussion. Unable to comprehend fully what was happening to him in the middle of the day while people stood around staring at them.

“Boo!” Shouted Kara and he squealed then turned tail and ran into the corner market.

She clapped to herself, turned around a few times, did a cartwheel and decided now would be a very good time to leave.
