Elite roleplay: Citi Gateway

CITI GATEWAY

The Orbis station is a center of activity. Within the station a myriad of places can be found.
  • The Warrens: Where the poor plebs of the station live. It's is a breeding ground for the most unscrupulous. Keep an eye on your wallet when traversing the corridors of these areas.
  • Habitation Complex: For those workers and pilots that can afford it, this area provides closer to 1G gravity for more earth like living.
  • Commerce Divison: and Administration Where the larger corporations make their home. Station administration can be found here.
  • Industrial Complex: Where industry manufactures their various goods.
  • Entertainment: District Bars, theaters and night clubs, tattoo parlors and other establishments can be found vying for a commanders credits in exchange for a bit of fun.
  • Station Security: A high tech brig used to house law breakers until they can be tried, and or deported off station.
  • Medical Ward: Where commanders can get patched up, enhanced, or fix existing cybernetics.

General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

Standing in the lift holding a weapon almost as tall as himself and a pistol that could pass as a hand cannon, Creamy did his best to look non-threatening.

"Good afternoon" he said to the man that had pressed himself into the corner. That was impressive as the lift car had a round base. "It's not mine, I'm holding for a friend"

That statement was met with silence and very wide eyes. Creamy started to bopp along with the flutie lift music, hoping they would get to the habitation ring very soon.

I woke up a few hours after having been told I needed to rest, freezing. The cooling blanket they had placed on me had dropped my body temps dramatically and it felt as though I had been dunked into an ice bath. Melli on the other hand was very much so enjoying the cold. she had moved from being curled up to sprawled out on my chest, laying flat on her belly, absorbing as much cold as she could. I reach up and pet her head gently. She perks her head up and seemingly smiles well attempts to smile as best a fox can. The nurse walks in and picks up my chart while taking a look at my vitals.

'Ok. Looks to me like you are stable enough now to leave. Your body temp is perfect and your pulse is strong. Please Ms. Sharpe do take care. Dealing with what you are can be hard I know but please do yourself a favor and take it easy. You are still healing.

I smile and nod politely, knowing full well that wasn't going to happen.

'I will try my best. Besides who would watch over this little fluff ball if I died.'

The nurse nods accepting the lie, though I suspected she knew it was a lie and just let it slide. She leaves the room and I get changed into the clothes they had provided for me since they had to cut my previous attire off in order to ensure I wasn't secretly injured. I made my way out of the hospital after paying the medical bill and made my way to a clothing shop and bought some nice new clothes.

I settled on a gray t-shirt, brown armored jacket, some black armored pants and brown mid calf boots. I decided I was in need of a hair cut and made my way to a hair salon and asked for a shorter hair style. While I enjoyed my longer hair it did require having to put it up in order to be compliant with the pilots federations regulations for flight.

"Ok, stand clear. I'm bout'ta jump-start the reactor" Called Damran to his team.

The guys and Willow stood clear of the core and each called a finale confirmation from their station.

"Connected and closed Ridge. I'm clear" replied Ephrain

"Good to go Guv" came from Mike "Where we going for lunch? I fancy pie'n'mash"
20 Jun 2023, 12:50pm
"Yeah, like what they said. Junction three hooked up, and locked up. I'm clear" Said Willow looking round the core for Mike as she stood in the safe zone.

"You Imps eat some weird shit together. So like, talking of weird, I hear all the weirdos and stalkers have left the Galactic. You guys want to go back up to the hab-ring for lunch? Like, its better for talking when you don't have to chase down your next fork full, you know?"
20 Jun 2023, 1:08pm
Enguaging the power regulator, Ridge entered his code into the core control terminal and started the boot sequence. He gave the team his opinion on the bar as the generator started the cycle up, before it got too loud.

"Don't know if you can afford pie and mash on your tickets Mike, but yeah, somthin with gravy sounds real nice, n'it tastes a whole lot better when I don't have to suck it out the pack"

The power form the photon-net enhanced solar panels flowed into the generator. The sound of spinning growing louder would soon be overwhelming, but it also meant the reaction was becoming powerful enough to sustain its self. The resulting energy would let another section of the station be re-opened, and that would be almost entirely down to the work of his team.

"Al'right" Shouted Ridge over the sound of the up-cycle "Security have warned us that there are some visitors pokin round. Bunch of bounty hunters they guess, so watch ya selves up there, n'we'll meet up at the usual time. Ok, lets get out of here"

An announcement can be heard in the hangars from the Citi Gateway portal

"Come join us in the Galactic, tomorrow, to Celebrate all the hard working souls attempting to get this Station back to its former Glory."

"Food and Drinks will be provided free of charge to patrons, courtesy of an anonymous donor."

"Come join us in the Galactic, tomorrow, to Celebrate all the hard working souls attempting to get this Station back to its former Glory."

"Food and Drinks will be provided free of charge to patrons, courtesy of an anonymous donor."

Ridge stopped as if a mystical martial arts master had just paralyzed him with a well-placed set of finger jabs.

"Am I dreamin? Did that wumman just as foo feed, fee free food" He asked in disbelief.

"No Damran, she said food and Drinks will be provided free of charge to patrons, and your staff, so if you could continue securing your end, I would be greatful" said Ephrain starting to struggle under the weight of a large ceiling section.

"Den fuuck dat, I quit. I'll see you assholes at the back of the line. Oo-ee, I'm gonna eat well tomorra, I tell ya whut!"
24 Jun 2023, 8:59pm
Rushing over to help Ephrain handle the load, Willow took enough weight for Ephrain to get some supports under the section they were replacing.

"Hm yeah like sure, it sounds great, but like, why am I thinking like, Said the spider to the, fly you know?"

"Sorry for the possible confusion"

"Coz you're a cynical old witch in Transylvania High cheer leader's body. Now don't you go spoilin this for me. Be on your best behavior, or don't come" said Ridge seriously. Free food was serious business for a man that could eat by the serving tray.

"Play nice Willow, or I'll have you back shaking pom-poms before you can say Gooo Night-Wolve, I'll tell ya whut"
24 Jun 2023, 10:22pm
It was hard to stay pissed at Damran. He never really meant any of his insults, and the good news about the free food had put a real big smile on his chubby school-boy face.

"Whatever Ridge. So like, are you going to use cutlery, or shall we just strap a bucket to your face and fill it up when we hear your jowls flapping?"

As I left my ship's landing bay, I took it right to the bar, but I immiadetly turned back, because it was closed. So I headed to Industrial Complex, since I needed more components to finish my handheld guns. At complex, I had few contacts, so it would not be problem to shop some not the most legal parts. Or at legal prices. When on the shopping list nothing remained, I headed back to the my landing bay to finaly finish my guns.

Continued from the Bar

'Fucking pirates. I suppose I did have this coming though. Hey can you let these restraints out a bit. I don't exactly want to sit her all day like a fucking tied hog.'

The security Sergeant looks at me a worried look on his face. It was evident he didn't want to risk me attempting to escape.

'If I do this and you attack me you will be killed.'

'Yes Yes I get it ok. I'm not going to do anything. Now just let these restraints go. I'll pay my fines and be on my way.'

The Sergeant releases the restraints and backs away cautiously. I stand to my feet and dust myself off.

'I know how this goes. So let's just get this done with quickly please. I'm working a contract. Names Jenna Marquez, registered bounty hunter for the Pilots Federation, Hunter ID 44128. No active bounties or claims against me.'

The security officer looks over the file and nods.

'What about this Venus Duval name you were called?'

'Mistaken identity I suppose.'

'Ma'am biometrics don't lie. Your prints are a direct match.'

'Ugh. Venus Duval, imperial duchess of Amenta A6 southern territories. Tried for murder, falsely accused, found deceased, no active bounties or claims. Oh and former imperial navy special forces.. Am I free to go? Time is literally of the essence here.'

'Not quite. What brings you to this station? Why are you attacking people? This is the second time in less than a year you have caused a disturbance on citi gateway.'

'I'm looking for someone. Silvia Sharpe. She was a bartender at the Galactic. Look I have made some very powerful enemies in my time alive and if I don't find her she will be killed. I'll pay my fines and I'll behave myself. Fuck if it makes it any easier I don't think the Royal family would like you deporting me.'

'This is your last chance. Cause any further trouble and you will be banned from this station permanently.'

'Yeup got it. I'll mind my temper. Here you go 2000cr. I'll be on my way.'

I walk out of the security office and head down to the docks to my ship. I made certain to not be followed and kept an eye out for any of Vodans crew.

I’d followed Meowers to the cabin, or apartment, whatever it was, remaining silent, with my head pointed to the ground, on the way.

She stayed behind to clear a few things up with the owner, while I headed on inside, and began to set things up, starting with the lights. I turned most of them in the main room off, leaving the others at a dim setting, making it moody inside at best. Most of my brain told me to turn them all off, but the small part that cared for being with another person decided to leave things nearly dark, instead of completely.

With setup complete, I stripped the suit off of my body, revealing a simple black sweater, relatively close to the body, and matching pants, then looked around after dumping it on the ground. The room was expectedly small, and adjacent chambers didn’t look much better.

Couldn’t even move the beds much further apart, without going into another room, and I wasn’t too sure about sleeping in the same room as a yet-to-be-determined friend. Or just anyone that wasn’t close enough that it went past even close friendship.

The kitchen was just, a kitchen. Basic utensils for cooking, prep area, sink, whatever else you’d find in one. Not very interesting to me at the moment, and I had doubts that Meowers was much of a cook, so I went back to the main room and hopped on to the bed on the right from the entrance, sitting on it cross-legged while I waited for her to come in, ignoring the screen on the wall. I barely watched anything as it was anyway.

"....Yeah, that place will be ours for a day, and we might extend if you... Ow", I entered the room and saw it already enveloped in darkness. It wasn't necessary, but something made me put my voice down from 'normal' to 'almost whispering'. "I see you've been busy making things 'yours'. Yeah, wait a sec..."

I slowly moved to the unoccupied bed, and, leaving the boots standing next to it, got horizontal. At last, I'd say. I wasn't tired or drowsy or whatever, but, considering that I've just returned from the assignment, a bit of rest was welcome.

"Yep. Now you may turn, like, everything off. So... How do you feel now? I hope it's better."
